Need advice about flash kit for macro photography

I do a lot of field macro photography with K1ii, K3ii and K3iii.
I use a RF-50 macro-lite (pc sync) + Af360FGZII, and macro flash diffuser. Since K30 doesn't have a pc sync port, you can't use RF 50 ring flash + speedlite combination. For tilted hotshoe adapter, you could try Hama Universal flash adapter. It's hard to find and the quality is bad. The adapter only lasted about 6 months...and I have two.
I highly recommend to get a good macro diffuser. With a good macro diffuser + speedlite, you don't really need a tilted hotshoe adapter.
Pentax AF360FGZII speedlite is great, and I also have a Promatic FTD 4500AF hot shoe bounce zoom flash with PTTL. It's an old flash but it's very powerful...if you don't want to spend a lot of money to buy Pentax AF360FGZII speedlite, Promatic FTD 4500AF is only $20 on ebay.
I have both AK diffuser and Popeshield macro diffuser, both work great (without tilting the speedlite for more light), but I like popeshield with roof, and you could still keep PTTL with a roof. You can watch this video on how to use it.

Good luck!

I had a K70 before but gave it to my sister when I got my K3ii. I highly recommend K3ii, it's an awesome camera!
I don't think K70 has a PC sync port...but it come with a built-in flash I think.
I have a full spectrum KP and I used my KP for UV photography....KP doesn't have PC sync port neither, just like K70. So I bought a Pentax Universal Hot Shoe Adapter 2P, it has a pc sync socket so I could fire RF-50 macro-lite ring flash plus an external Promatic FTD4500AF flash at the same time. That's a lot of light for macro photography.
Hope I answer your questions! Macro photography is fun, good luck!

You might want to set your K01’s in-camera white balance. If that doesn’t work, then you could try to use another uv + IR filter stack. From your pictures, I think your UV filter and IR filter might not be thick enough.
My first full spectrum is K01, I bought it from an eBay seller from HK, but it only worked for a year (sticky shutter).
So I bought a new KP and converted to full spectrum. I now use my full spectrum KP for UV and UV “Bee Vision” photography.
For UV photography, I recommended 2mm thick Hoya U-340 filter + 2mm thick Schott S8612 filter stack.
Your Optomax 35/3.5 is a good UV lens. You could post your pictures @ ultravioletphotography.com.

I don't have Tiffen Hot mirror filter so I don't know...but from your picture, looks like your camera picked up a lot of IR...so that means your Tiffen hot mirror filter is not thick enough (or just not good enough).

I bought a Kyoei/Kurbayashi (clone) UV lens from an eBay seller. The lens came with two filters for UV photography. One is ZWB1 2mm (Chinese made UV pass filter) and BG39 2.3mm (Chinese made IR filter).
When I compare the Schott S8612 IR 2mm filter with Chinese BG39 IR 2.3mm filter that I have, I could see the Chinese BG39 2.3 mm filter is not as "blue" as Schott S8612 2mm filter.

If you don't want to spend too much money on a Schott filter, Chinese BG39 2.3mm would works too. :)

That's wonderful! Glad the filter works!
For most of my UV works, I use Sigma 50mm f2.8 DG Macro (AF lens), Sigma 70mm DG macro f2.8 (AF lens) and Pentax DA 35mm AL f2.4 (AF lens)....plus a few other older MF lenses.
I didn't know 50 mm f4 Takumar macro is a good UV lens, that's wonderful. I'll see if I could find one on Ebay, thank you!

Hi aslyfox:

Thank you very much! Everyone here is so helpful, I've learned so much. I am going to order parts online, then ask my mom to find someone in Taiwan to fix for me.

Hi Pentasonic49:

That video is awesome! I think I can take the screw out myself. I am good with my hands and have made some DIY beadwork with small tools and tiny beads. Thank you so much for sharing that video!

Help!! K3ii hotshoe came off

Update: I really wanted to fix k3ii, since Precision camera Austin told me over the phone that they could fix in-store. However, once the repairman looked at my k3ii, sure enough, he said he couldn't fix it, had to send it back. They don't know how much and how long....(maybe about 8 weeks, that's what they told me)
I was very sad and angry at myself for dropping the camera....my poor husband felt sorry for me so he sold some of his vacation times and bought a new K1ii @ Adorama.
Adorama was closed last week for the Easter Holiday, so I'll get my new K1ii on this comingThursday.
My K3ii is still working, just no flash. I don't know what to do with that loose screw is still floating somewhere inside my camera. It's out of my hands so I'll just let it "float".
I still want to fix my K3ii, just don't want to wait 2 months and without knowing how much it would cost to fix it.

Michelle

(PS One more question: Can I use K3ii sync socket for Pentax AF360FGZII flash? I read the menu it said "Can the sync socket be used for professional flashes? A: Yes, it can. However, some professional flashes use extremely high voltages. The use of such flashes may cause the camera to breakdown. Before using the flash, check its specification in advance"....so what kind of equipments do I need to buy to use k3ii sync socket as a flash trigger for pentax AF360FGZII flash?)
I'll post my question a new thread..

To aslyfox
Thank you so much for the information! I did some research on KP and K1ii, and I decided to buy a K1ii.
I don't think I am good enough to repair the camera myself....I think l have to send it to someone who have parts to fix Pentax camera.

Michelle

Hi Mikesbike:
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! That's very helpful. I agreed with you, and really wanted to get a KP...since the price at B&H is so attractive. I have a K70 and love it! I mainly use it for daytime wildlife photography, such as wild birds, butterflies and dragonflies. I only use K3ii for night time insect macro photography and wild flowers.
However, my husband insisted to buy a K1ii, since he is paying for it.....
