The DA(L) 35/2.4 should work just fine on any Pentax DSLR, including the KP. For candid shots it's the perfect focal length to get a bit of the surroundings (ideal at an event like a wedding). It's not super fast but it's reasonably sharp wide open (noticeably better at f/2.8). At that kind of event, if the light is low, I'd use it wide open or f/2.8 in TAV mode with auto ISO allowed quite high (12800 maybe) and a shutter speed around 1/60s, probably in B&W mode.
A word of warning - if you get it for an event this weekend then make sure you test it to make sure AF is spot-on, otherwise you'll be in the event before you realise the AF needs some fine tuning.

I've used it on the KP in good light outdoors, haven't used it much indoors. It's a nice match with fairly quick AF, will try and take a few shots over the weekend in low light and post them.

Hi Matt...
I haven't used a KP yet (other than a quick test at a show), however... There's absolutely no reason why the DA35 f/2.4 won't work just as well on the KP as it does on other Pentax bodies. The sensor resolution won't expose any more limitations of the lens than other current Pentax DSLRs. The coatings are SMC-type, just the same as the FA Limited series (a good thing). It's a screw-drive lens (so does not use the camera's SDM contacts) and focuses quickly and accurately, but with the usual noise associated with screw-drives. I don't find the noise bothersome.
As for its suitability for lower-light photography, you can shoot it wide open with excellent results - both center and border performance are excellent from f/2.4 all the way down to around f/10. By f/11, diffraction starts to creep in. The sweet spot is f/4. Just bear in mind that f/2.4 isn't super-fast for indoor lower-light photography... that said, the high ISO performance on the KP seems to be very good indeed from the test files I've downloaded and processed.
A 35mm focal length lens on APS-C gives approximately the same field of view as a 50mm lens on full frame, which may or may not be wide enough for your needs. It's something to consider. I'd be tempted to use a 17-50 f/2.8 zoom lens or similar in this situation, just in case; but that's just me.
All in all, the DA35 f/2.4 is a cracking little lens - probably my favourite K-mount prime, even compared to my DA Limiteds. I don't think you'd regret buying one - especially given the price.

bit dry there on the falls, but great colours make up for it. Good one.
