The absolute madmen at Ricoh Pentax actually did it. They deleted the nasty pentaprism housing overhang. It looks beautiful.
Sure hope it comes with GPS. Though I never really understood why it needed its own button, it's not like there is any noticeable battery drain from it.

Yeah, the KP is nice and it's actually better suited to my needs. I don't ~really~ need a flagship. However the GPS of my K-3II is indispensable. KPII with new pentaprism housing design and GPS would be instant win for me.:lol::lol:

Holy cow, they fixed by biggest pet peeve with modern DSLR designs, the massive overhang from the pentaprism housing.

Ricoh GR series have a massive cult following in the street photography world. Every iteration refines what a street photographer wants from a compact digital, which is something more like a premium film camera that fits in your pocket. It's such a great design, all it needs is polishing and trimming. Fuji has tried to come out with GR killers, but keeps failing. I get that some of you don't understand what this camera is or why it doesn't have improvements leaps and bounds ahead of the previous model, well this camera is on a league of its own. It's refining something that's near perfection.
Having said all that, I seriously question Ricoh's "bold" move to remove the built-in flash, especially on a camera with leaf shutter. Built-in flash is vital to any premium compact. The utility of always having fill flash available cannot be understated. At the very least Ricoh will need to release a tiny pocketable P-TTL external flash.

For me, K-3II was a crazy good deal when I bought it. Even more at this price. It's outdated in the same way all Pentax cameras are "outdated" without all those fancy mirrorless features. So you probably won't feel its age if those things don't bother you.
When it comes to built-in flash versus built-in GPS, my reasoning goes as follows: I can always buy and use external flash of varying price and features, however, there is only one Pentax GPS attachment and all the money in the world will not buy you a better one than the one that's already built-in to the K-3 II. And I actually use GPS data on images ALL the time. I always like to note what neighborhood I am when I took the pictures, or map out the paths I took while taking those pics. I wish I had GPS tracking on my Q....

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that Pentax getting into the Micro Four Thirds business would be an excellent idea as a spiritual successor to the Q series. They could call it the QF! For Quarter Frame, which is what MFT really is, a quarter of full frame. :D
This is my day dream Pentax mft camera: Take the Pentax LX as the base design, magnesium alloy or composite body, mode dial on the left of the EVF hump, other dials on the right. Beautiful mini DA* and mini DA Limited lenses for MFT mount. Since it's a shared mount, people won't complain about not enough lenses from Pentax, and I'm sure other MFT users would go crazy to buy Pentax limited lenses for their non-Pentax body as well!

I was fishing from the beach and I caught a nice fish. It was my first fish from the surf, so I definitely wanted to capture it on camera! Took a photo, but in my excitement I dropped it on the sand! A small wave came in and completely soaked my Pentax Q-S1 with black standard prime lens with salty, sandy water....
This is quite possible the worse thing you could do to a camera short of dropping it in the ocean, but if the salt water wasn't bad enough, it had tiny sand particles in EVERY little crevice of the camera. I doused the camera is clean water to try and displace the salt and sand, but thought for sure this camera and lens were a goner....
This occurred about 2 months ago, and I still USE the camera to this day. It's absolutely unbelievable that it's still working!
As an aside, my Q telephoto zoom lens stopped working, it can no longer focus. It's kinda funny that the lens that was nowhere near the beach was the first thing in my Q system to fail.

This might not be your particular issue, but something similar happened to me before. My lens would not stop down for exposure, so my f16 photo was super over exposed because the aperture would randomly decide to not stop down from f2.8. Basically, just make sure the lens is mounted on fully and tightly and that there's nothing that could impede the aperture mechanism.

Would I? Already have. I also would buy a Q if Pentax relesed a new updated model with no AA filter.

the new chip is truly the camera's selling point. better noise performance is actually top of my list of reasons to switch from my k-3 ii to kp. i feel like very few people appreciate how big of a deal the new chip is, they're all just saying this is a bizarre non-update to the K-1 and they never even mention the new chip and what big change it is for noise performance. i dont shoot high ISO a lot, but there are times when i've REQUIRED fast shutter speeds with high ISO, but my k-3 ii was just being pushed too much at its limits, even resized for web sizes

Ricoh Pentax has a nice ring to it as well, like Cosina Voigtlander. Obviously they're not official brand names when put together, but good enough for colloquial use. :)

f4 is only one stop slower than f2.8. You could do the same things with an f4 that you could with an f2.8 lens. A stop faster is nice to have, certainly a premium feature, but not absolutely necessary, especially in daylight use where I might be stopping down to f8 anyways. Even on my f2.8 lenses I try to not shoot wide open if I don't have to, since that's not the optimum aperture for image quality.

Pentax has a solid APS-C lineup. I have absolutely no misgivings about investing in a Pentax APSC-only kit. Something that was significantly missing from the lineup was a premium wide angle zoom, and lo and behold, the DA* 11-18 was recently announced. I think they've got all their bases covered now in terms of zoom. I suppose they could start making F4 versions of the F2.8 zooms. Or make a Pentax re-brand of that new Tamron super-zoom. Remake old lens designs to PLM versions seems like a cool idea as well. I means, there's still stuff for Pentax to release, but it's got all the basic stuff down now.
I've got a 20-40 Limited, so I am biased when I say Pentax has a pretty damn excellent normal zooms. :p I'm never going to get rid of it. I guess what I'm trying to say is: buy premium lenses for premium results. So don't lose heart friend, you don't have to go full frame if you don't want to.

You've set up the most ridiculous straw person to argue against. No one on PentaxForums has ever said such a thing, but you gladly assume it because apparently, it's the only way your accusations would make sense.

On the subject of the KP, I feel like Pentax damn nearly made that camera just for me. My livelihood does not depend on my ability to produce photographs, I am an amateur enthusiast through-and-through. I have no need for dual card slots, blazing fast burst mode, or an endless buffer. Yes, I use these features, but they're not high priority, I can live without them. Hell, I've even shot kid's flag football tournament on my Q-S1 with its okay burst rate and tiny buffer. I'm no stranger to these kinds of limitations. But of course, photography is not my profession. In this context, I am able to appreciate the design of the KP. Apart from my gripes about the nameplate obnoxiously sticking out too much to the front and above of the mount, overall I think it's a pretty camera.
However, I say "damn nearly" because I currently own a K-3 II, and the GPS has been extremely useful for my street photography. I don't always use flash, but when I do, I will always prefer an off-camera flash to bounce indoors and such. My tiny, jeans-pocketable Q20 flash fulfills this role better than anything an on-camera flash could ever hope to do. If they ever made a KP II with built-in GPS, you may count on me to make that jump.
