Right I messed up but hopefully not to badly. .a.t despite your excellent advice I lost track of which way was which with this lens. The one at the top in the attachment. Now I've tried taking some pictures both ways around and there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. Is there a way to tell what the original configuration was. I'm guessing it's the fourth element in the diagram you put up.
Anyways I did have a chance to use the lens in anger, here's the Orion Nebula. I'm stunned with the lack of optical abberations out to the edge of the frame. Less thrilled with the chromatic abberation, but maybe there's away to decrease that in post processing. Taken with a Canon EOS 500D, stopped down with a step down ring to F5.4.

The rubber gloves worked. No solvent or heat needed thankfuly. That strap wrench does look useful though.

Ah that's a shame, I'll have to try opening from the other side.. I'd rather have left the mechanics alone though.

Hi, I recently aquired a 200mm F4 Super-Takumar that needs cleaning on the interior lenses. I found this video: You Tube |
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uA5GW-ba3Jc?controls=1" allowfullscreen> |
However when he unscrews the front about 30 seconds in for his lens this removes the whole lens assembly. When I do this only the front element comes off and a lens assembly that won't move is in it's place so I'm at a bit of a loss. The lens in the video is the super multi coated version, but as far as I know they were the same mechanically it was just the coatings that were different.
That lens infront of the silver thread will not move. I've actually scored the metal trying to turn it with a wrench. (The optics weren't effected). Does anyone have a disassembly/refurb guide for this lens. Any help much appreciated.

Here's some pics taken with this setup, not the best, but I am still a beginner. Andromeda had an hours worth of 1 minute exposures, orion nebula had about 30 minutes.

It is a nifty little thing isn't it, I did think about that clap,but I was worried about clearance for the lens (it's quite a bit wider that the cam). Looking at it again I should be able to mahe it work though. Thanks for your help. ---------- Post added 09-01-16 at 03:14 PM ---------- Sorry for the spelling, wouldn't let me edit!

Thanks for the replies. It's being used for astrophotography, so it has to be mounted to a dovetail bar like this: Skywatcher Dovetail Mounting Plates | First Light Optics
That then fits to my astronomical mounting/tripod. The cam it's being used with is tiny so I would have to mount the lens to the dovetail bar using a tube ring mount, I just can't find one in the right size.

Hi, I'm from the UK and my main interest is astrophotography. Just taking baby steps into the field.
