was a good show. Unflrtunately one camera that was supposed to do a time lapse malfunctions & didin't fire. Two others (including the infrared I was excited about) are just enough out of focus they're useless and can't be salvaged.

evolution of my dragon shot. Tried to make the red more subtle. Desaturating didn't give me the look I want, but I'm pretty happy with this. Same image but also light l;painted with a white light & a black & white layer added at 50% opacity.

so this is what I've found...
card: I updated the firmware to 2.41 (was on 2.40) but it still will not write to a specific card (says cannot create the image folder) regardless of what slot it's in. However, that card works fine in another camera or my pc. Card will be replaced, writing it off as faulty (older card anyway)
AT: honestly, I've never got this to work very well. I will research it more as I'm probably not doing something right (last time I tried using it was probably 2 years ago)
Interval shooting: Another featuure I don't use often and when I do, I use a non Pentax so it works much different. Chalk that up to user error (also C 13 is set to 1. I set it to 2 but I will definitely change how I program it, exposuure time + 3 seconds)

So I guess I'm a bit confused... If I'm trying to say 30 30 second shots, the interval should be 33 seconds? I don't want it to wait 33 seconds in between shots. I tried using a 5 second interval to allow time for the buffer to clear. Seems like if I want 3 seconds between shots I should set the interval to 3 seconds. I mean that's how it works on every non Pentax camera I've used. If I'm doing star trails or astro (like I was trying last night), wouldn't I want the shots to be closer together? I mean a 30 second gap between shots in a star trail shot leaves significant gaps and seems like it would be harder to stack with a significant gap in between. Or am I way off base with this?
pvanni: long exposure NR was off (I never turn that on)
But all of last night was apparently an exercise in futility. The other camera I used ran like it should have but no comet, so guessing it was below the horizon by the time I got out.
As far as the card problem, I guess I'll buy some brand new cards to be on the safe side (these are a few years old).

I tried a 20mm (Sigma 20/1.8) then a 35 (Sigma Art 35/1.4), both said 5 min time.
Initially one of the cards was locked, but even after I uunlocked the one and confirned the second was unlocked, it still would display that it couldn't create the image folder. Third card I formatted in camera and while it did record imnages, nothing near close to what it shoud have. I may go ouut tomorrow and pick up a few brand new cards and start fresh. I've already upgraded FW from 2.40 to 2.41 as I believe 2.40 was buggy and did a reset on the camera as well.

troubleshooting time. Went ouut tonight to try to get the comet & had suubstantial issues. My K-1 was problematic at best. With the eclipse right around the corner, this is NOT the time for this crap.
1. Interval shooting not working: I’d set it for 30x10, 5 sec intervals & it will shoot 3 and said it’s complete. I can use an external intervalometer so not the end of the world, though not as convenient
2, Astrotrace not working (honestly never got it to work well). Says it will do 5 minutes but only runs a few seconds. I will research that more as it’s probably user error
3. Most serious: had a hell of a time getting it to write to the cards. Kept saying it couldn’t create the image folder. One card was locked (not sure when that happened), but even after fixing it still wouldn’t write. Swapped cards & tried using juust one. Had to break out the spare and it would only work after I formatted it I can see one card possibly failing, but three at the same time?
And I apologize for the UU as the key is sticking

Something new, for me at least. Lots of people have done star trails, but what about moon trails... intentionally? Yes, this is nothing new but is new to me. Pentax K-1ii w/ FA* 70-200/2.8. Relatively happy as it;s a first attempt. I was surprised at the number of hot pixels that popped up though. Will have to try this again on the next appropriate night (clouds for the next few nights) 69 min, f/11, ISO100
