You can use Godox flashes, AD200, AD360ii and AD300 work in HSS, with Godox Pentax triggers, like the X2T-P.
More Godox flashes might work, but those are the ones I’ve used and tested.

Thanks! Yeah, I prefer the look of medium format, can quite describe why, but even if my Sony A7RIII has more dynamic range, I still prefer the colors and overall look of medium format.
One day I’ll get the 645Z.

With flash, there’s no problem, great colors and dynamic range. Without Flash
I would use it mainly with flash, or if you can use a very high shutter speed. All of those are handheld.
I have a faster camera for paid work, a Sony A7RIII, but if I want to shoot for something personal, I always use the 645D or a film camera. I want to buy the Z, but I don’t have the money. Right now I have the following lenses: FA 45mm, 75mm, 120mm and 200mm. The only A is the 150mm. I only need to get the DFA 55mm, and I’ll be set.

You need to turn off highlight correction and turn on extended ISO. You’ll get ISO 100 that way.

Get a mirrorless FF camera, or DSLR FF, you’ll get all that, and for weddings is the only thing I would use. Medium format is not for weddings, you can do a bridal portrait photoshoot, but the actual ceremony and party? I wouldn’t do it.
The focus on the 50S is not that fast. On the GFX 100 is a lot better, but not anywhere near that of a mirrorless FF camera.
I don’t know when or if Pentax will release another medium format camera. I still can’t buy a used 645Z, only have the 645D.

As far as I know, the only medium format camera that has image stabilization is the fuji GFX 100. And that’s about $15,000 USD with a couple of lenses.
What type of photography you do?

Nice!
You’re the first person I’ve seen use the Godox expensive 1200 WS flash. Do you really use it much? Do you usually need that much power?

Thanks! I didn’t use the camera much, a few rolls a year at the most and some year not at all. Since I’ve got several medium format cameras I use them instead. I just want one so the Battery grip won’t go to waste. Otherwise I would buy a different camera, maybe from another brand.
I’ve been looking for some here, but I can only find the MZ-50, MZ-60, 30, etc... none of the single digits ones. If I find one I’ll buy it. ---------- Post added 09-12-20 at 09:46 AM ----------

Thanks! yeah, I was reading about it, and maybe if I lived in the US, or Japan. But here, it´s going to cost more shipping it, buying the parts and repairing it, than buying a new one.
I might not find a ZX-5 here, what other cameras in that series are worth it, that can fit the FG grip?

Mine juts died today... The mirror wont go down, it takes several shutter press to go down, and you can hear it forcing.
Its a big shame, because I have run out of batteries, I ordered the FG grip so I could use AA Batteries, it got here today, I installed it, tried it, and the first picture I took, the mirror locked! I guess I`m gonna have to buy another one. there's no one that fixes this cameras here. It was a long run, I had the camera since December 1996, it was the first camera I bought.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I didn't feel the need to create one for my case.

Maybe, for all I know 99% of photographers are freelance, even if professionals. They decide what and where to buy.
Well, cars last a lot less and wear a lot more than photographic lenses. Lenses can last a lifetime if they’re well taking care of, not abused. Regular use won’t wear them.
Warranty could be, there’s no warranty in my country, and from what it last, I don’t think you’ll ever use it on a lens, buying them for real cheap, makes the replace value cheap as well.
A rarely buy a new lens, unless it’s a cheap one.
We are not talking about saving a few bucks here, we’re talking about paying only 15-20% of what it costs new.
But yeah, to each his own.

Well, either way, I don’t know why would someone overpay for a new one. When there are used ones in mint condition for very cheap.

That explains the over sharpened, over produced of most images in there, I didn’t know it even existed. I’ve seen some of the better ones in the Medium Format forum. But yeah, not my cup of tea. ---------- Post added 08-28-20 at 05:42 PM ----------
Just their taste, and form the few pages I’ve seen, not a very good one. Never knew it existed before I read this thread today.

Yeah, I would never use a 645D for a wedding. It’s very slow to shoot with and the focus is a real problem, you only get about 11 focus points, but they’re all crammed in the middle. So, you’ll need to focus and recompose, which will take the main thing you want in focus, to be slightly out of focus, unless you’re shooting at F8 or above. I’m finding out that for the same reason, eve portraits are hard to do on location(interiors) try to shoot at F8 in location, you’ll need a high ISO, something that highly affects image quality in CCD sensors.
Tight close ups are no problem, or even lest say medium close shot, but an environmental portrait will lose focus on the subject.
You need to treat the D like a film camera, you don’t know what you’re going to get, until you get home and look at the photos in a computer. The review is painfully slow, and you’ll need to underexposed, because for some reason, anything white or almost white, will get clip warnings when the rest is correctly exposed, it’s has a tiny latitude in the highlights, so, you’ll need to underexposed.
Having said that, it’s a great camera for personal work and family, travel photos. I haven’t used it in two years, and just took it out, because I bought a new lens, the FA 120 Macro, and have been shooting my daughter a lot. Around the house and outside. I want to use it for a portrait personal project I wat to do. But for 99% of the paying jobs, I’ll use my Sony A7RIII.
Some of those recent shots with the 645D.
I just noticed that I tend to frame with a lot of air above the subject, because of the focus points thing. ---------- Post added 08-24-20 at 11:56 PM ---------- Oh, forgot to mentioned that I have done paying jobs with the 645D, but only in the studio, where you can shoot at F8 without a problem. |

Godox own page say it doesn’t work. And every reviewer has said the same. Even here it was the popular knowledge that it didn’t worked.
Thanks for all your help.

Well, my X2T-P arrived like an hour ago, and i just tested it. it works out of the gate with the AD360ii in HSS! I dont know why people reported it as not working, I did absolutely nothing special, just turned both on and chose the trigger sync as HSS, that’s it! no need to do anything else on the flash. You can change power as well.
One image is at 1/400 and the other one is at 1/250 on a Pentax 645D that sync tops at 1/125. The Godox 360ii changes from regular to HSS when you go pass 1/125 of a second in camera, automatically.
You can check the settings in Flickr https://flic.kr/p/2jvgK4S https://flic.kr/p/2jvjpUg |

Thanks!
Don’t have the Pentax trigger yet, and I ordered a X2T-P not the Xpro-P. But I’ll try it when it gets here. Yeah, I do believe you can manually force HSS on the 360ii, but have not actually tried it.
I don’t use ND filters because focusing would be a problem, the 645D is slow and hard to focus as it is. I’d rather have HSS.
I decided to buy another Ad200 and the double head adapter, that way I can have one more stop of light if I need it.
Thanks! I’ll let you know if it worked.

Yeah, for portability I would prefer the AD300, I know it’s only a little more light than the 200. But with HSS and Pentax lenses, you need as much light as you can get.
I just made some tests and I can use the AD200 and the AD360ii with HSS and the Pentax 645D using the Cactus V6ii and a Canon X1T trigger on top of it. But it’s very buggy, it works then it stops working. I hope the X2T-P I ordered is better, but it’s going to take a long time to get here, about 3 weeks.
I just bought a new lens for the 645, the FA 120mm 4 Macro, and I’m trying to start using my camera more. Haven’t used it in almost two years. I want to buy a 645Z, since I find the D very slow to work with and not as reliable, the only work I get I shoot it with a Sony A7RIII. But I’m trying to incorporate the D to at least location portrait work, but that would involve strobes and sometimes HSS. That’s why I need to find a reliable solution, I have no problem with the Sony and HSS.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks! They don’t sell the flashpoint in my country. And I would have to pay extra for shipping and taxes to get it.
I do have the AD200, but with HSS in daylight sometimes is not enough power. That’s why I want to get an AD300.

Thank you very much!
It’s a shame that I can use the Cactus V6II with HSS on the AD360II, but not Godox own model.
I’ll get a X2T-P eventually, when I’ll get an AD300 Pro.
Thanks again!

Did they ever released a firmware version for the AD360II so it can work with this trigger in HSS?
Also is this the only version of the trigger? Or did they release a newer one already?
Does it even work on the Pentax 645D?
Thanks!

This guy shoots with a Pentax 645Z and the 90mm and 120mm, I’ve watched some of his tutorials and there are sample photos with both lenses there. Maybe in the tutorial website. Youtu.be |
