Thanks for the responses. Has anyone done an actual experiment though. I mean between the 2 types of batteries in the grip. Was there a huge difference, if any?

Hi, the rechargables are rated 2460Mha, fairly new and only used for the battery pack. I'm guessing it's the discharge rate and the fact that they don't charge all the way to 1.5v like a regular AA. Which has a voltage of 1.5-1.57 brand new. Thanks

Hi I wanted to know if the pentax battery is better/lasts longer than 6 nickle metal hydride batteries. The nmhi batteries weigh alot in the grip and they seem to run out pretty quickly is that normal? I haven't tried the spare pentax battery yet. I was wondering which is better/lasts longer. In the battery grip
thanks,
I've been absent awhile.

ended up using the nikon setup but. Had a few drinks and let some "kid" take the pics, a few keepers. Noticed the focus point changed around a few times. All due to my laziness and selfish. I hardly get to be in the pics. 8 out of 25 aint bad. of all pics, I wasted a good lens the 35mm f1.8 My nephew's son.
my subjects really aren't into getting their pics taken. So compounded

that is a good mouthful, lol but seriously. I'm thinking along the lines of editing all the specs out of the colour images which I know I have to do and then save some work. ie contrast sharpness white balance then save that as a workspace to then start fine tuning my monochromes.
ie I want to have a starting point, my bad. Not a preset for every image, but the best settings in dxolabs to get me started in fine tuning the final product. And yes I have elite and yes it comes with the filmpack
but I will treat each image individ.
thx

thank you all, maybe I have bitten off more than I can chew. I came up with this compromise. what if i find a setting I like for my/the monochrome images aka tweaking to my liking and just save it as a preset. And when an image comes along I just apply the preset to the said image? I think that would work because the common school of thought is to "look" at each individual image and apply the settings accordingly. Am I on to something

thx, Season's greetings ---------- Post added 12-24-18 at 09:43 AM ---------- 2 questions then, why do the monochrome conversion in the first place if we shoot raw? And why is it a JPEG? For the end product ? excuse my ignorance

yeah im the same way, but I think we can delve deeper into the features esp. with the time off from work and make a specific workspace for monochrome. If one was so inclined. and that's the way i'm leaning. ie all the raw/b + w images were instantly converted. Contrast heightened etc. then treat each image individually. But that sounds like a preset to me.
please let me know

Pentax k3, I would like to use this speed light tomm for Christmas. I've tried it before but on a test basis. Not good results but from checking the you tube vids it's a good speed light. External flash. Went to the camera store and the "guy" tweaked" a few things. He asked me why I had auto ISO on? And he took some test shots/images at 1/60 and they came out better. Question one why do I have to shoot that low? Question 2 why does auto iso matter? Should i just get a ttl flash for Pentax. And keep this speed light as a back up to use on any system?
thanks in advance

I'm trying to "see" the world in monochrome now. I just took 15 test shots around the area. It forces you to compose and look for contrast. Which will improve your technique/skills. I opened up the software and they are still in colour. On the software end I want to just convert them aka batch into "monochrome" then edit from there. That was/is the point of my inquiry.
thanks all. I'm beginning to see the lack of colour

holy crap, that is almost/could be a workspace right there. Thanks very much Santa. And I guess you/we have to treat each image individually
now I'm seeing the light

Hi, I want to start shooting in monochrome. Software dxo photolabs camera Pentax K-7. How do I go about creating specific workspace? I'll be shooting raw with monochome picture control. New at this and wouldn't mind a few pointers. I've read/heard that even though the shot is monochrome all the colour data is there because it's a raw file. Can I batch process all the images to monochrome then edit them as monochrome from there. Or there is a roundabout?
thx,

I have a question regarding b and w photo. I've set the camera to shoot in raw. picture control to monochrome. viewfinder will be in colour. The meat of the question comes in pp. When I go to edit will the image be b and w or colour. And when i start playing with contrast, saturation, smart lighting, exposure will the image revert back to colour? Willl be using dxo photolab on a mac
thank you,
seasons greetings to all

Hi, I want to know if I can save all of my in camera settings on a memory card. I did it on my Nikon and would like to do it on my K3 as well. Does Pentax offer that feature. It's a binary file with the Nikon.
Thanks,

the setting goes back to default if you play back your images aka it resets what you've configured. I'm done with the 2 sessions so all's well raw all the way

I'm just going to use the info screen with picture format highlighted and then turn the rear command dial. I only need jpeg for the 2 sessions. It's too much of a hassle to get this thing configured properly

Hi I want to be able to switch file formats with 1 button. I tried to set it up in the button customization menu. I hit jpg-raw take 2 pics but they are both dng. I switched back to raw-jpg but they are all dng.
Am I doing something wrong. Model: K3, 18-55mm lens. Although it shouldn't matter I'm trying to change file formats
