I wasn't looking for support or approval. Having a nice purse/strap makes me happy. I posted this because others might have been interested. It is cool if you are not. It is cool if no one else is interested either.

Called "guidealong". Non-interactive, the app uses the phone/pad GPS. As you hit a specific coordinate on the road you are driving (you have to follow their maps) then the guy starts talking about whatever is ahead, and has some interesting historical tidbits and trivia.
It's not like a real GPS direction thing: he might say "in half a mile you need to turn left" but if you ignore him and don't turn left he doesn't correct you, he just stops talking. So pay attention! There are waypoints you can "meet the tour" so as long as you are on their tour route you'll hear him eventually. You can go in either direction and also go over the same spots (and you get a rerun of what he said the first time)
My tour started in Rapid City but it went out to the Badlands, to Crazy Horse, Deadwood and the "good" way to Rushmore and also to Devils Tower.

Right after memorial day but before tourist season - train to Seattle, one day there (Space Needle, Chihuly Museum) and then drive to Banff via Vancouver/Kamloops
Decided to travel light, all the junk I brought to California was cumbersome and most was unused.
THE VIRIDIAN and 28-105.
K-01 Full Spectrum and internal 590 IR filter, EITHER 15 or 21 mm on front. Point and shoot.
That is it, UNLESS I can be convinced to also take ONE prime for THE VIRIDIAN.

In this thread I posted my new custom purse (camera/lens bag) and strap cover for THE. VIRIDIAN.
Now it's time to do the same for the silver K-3 III.
Got sample swatches. Uploaded in no specific order.
If you care to, please respond with your vote, naming the fabric by its numbered identifier printed on the bottom of the swatch (e.g. x of 14).
Keep in mind that the strap cover (for a gray Peak Design) will be ~ 3 inches wide, and a large pattern might not look as good on the strap (depending on the repeat size). Turing the fabric diagonally is not an option. That said, since the fabric will look fine on the purse the large patterned ones are not deal breakers if they are otherwise fabulous.
I eliminated 4 of the 14 due to not liking the samples once they arrived.
I will be Scotchguarding the combo so spills on the lighter ones are less of a factor.

I learned the hard way that before you go out on a road trip to take pictures an hour away from your house, you may want to turn the camera on and check to see if the battery is not dead. :mad:
Had an hour of panic driving home after I took THE. VIRIDIAN to the truck garden to get some test shots and flipped it on and... nothing. I had no spare on me, I didn't notice if it was already on when I grabbed it, and I vaguely recalled pulling the SD cards out and reinserting them and seeing the blinky light a few weeks ago.
Biggest worry was if this was actually a camera issue and not just a dead battery ... the baby does not have a US warranty.
Anyway, got home, put in a spare battery and all was well - including the date/time, so no harm done, other than to my mood and my gas tank.
Will never make this particular mistake again, but I expect I'll make a different one next time.
This is how we learn stuff. :)

It's the little things in life, sometimes.
Wanted the usual (color matching standard strap) but after lots of debate here got a blue Peak Design Slide.
Was not the right blue.
Took the K-1 II top cover to a local fabric store and found several patterns I liked, several other customers voted.
There was a clear winner.
I have no sewing skills at all, so found a local person who made me a custom strap sleeve (the Slide can slide out of this) and I also splurged for a purse (or camera and ONE LENS bag).
I think the Silver K-3 III is next for this treatment.

Yes, I am very happy about the results. I'm having a harder time finding (silver/gray) and black fabric that makes my heart thump like the tie-dyed viridian does. Maybe I'll have a poll and the Forum can decide!

Well, THE. VIRIDIAN. was the topic here but point taken, do I really want to possibly damage the Citizen's Watch Duratect Gold mount surface? Nah. I'll tell the Nikon guy that it was an interesting concept but not practical.
What I *can* do is to rent the HD Pentax-D FA* 85mm F1.4 SDM AW, put it onto THE. VIRIDIAN. and he can use his D800 and his FABULOUS LENS and we can have a shoot-off at a location of his choosing.
Maybe the truck garden ;)
