Hello guys,
I havent used my flashes for some time, and when i did, something went wrong.
I have 2 Pentax AF 540 FGZ units, and Cactus V6 II transmitters. For some reason, only 1 of my flashes working properly, the other one, when paird with transmitter, is not firing at all, or firing too late. This flash mounted on the camera works good. On the transmitter it starts to cycle through modes (digital - 35mm - etc). I tried to mount it on different transmitter units, but no success.
The setting on all transmitters is manual: all in Pentax, and flash profiles is 540 FGZ. The setting on the flash itself does not matter, it always acts the same.
Did i messed up with settings somewhere, or i should try to repair that flash?

Now about Cactus V6 II
Worth every penny. Very pleasant to work with, especially for inexperienced photographers as me, who can not guess strobe settings and have to adjust the power of strobes on each shot.
Setup is very easy, auto-detect feature works fine, all you have to do is switch all your gear on first, and then switch on the Cactus units.
And even more, it works with other systems as well, if i will buy more cactus gear and decide to switch to another system - cactus still will work.

just a quick update, 3 cactus v6 II units arrived yesterday. played with them a little bit today, and so far i have a very positive impression. i'l have a sort of "photo session" in a home studio later this week, will publish results and further impressions about cactus here.

I'm considering Cactus V6II units, but there is one phrase that i can not fully understand: * With the exception of Pentax system flashes due to special timing requirements so it must be paired with a Pentax camera in order to support HSS.
K-S2 don't have flash control on it, so i can not "pair" flash with a camera, like manual says me to do.

i have them, i just gave up on them. for some reason, they just eat batteries like hell and switch off after just a few shots. it cost me too many nerves and time. i don't need P-TTL, all i need is HSS and power control from the camera.

I need a trigger system for 2 AF 540 FGZ flashguns and k-s2. I need a HSS mode, and power control of both flashes from the transmitter unit.
What can you recommend?

I won't buy KP because of poor autofocus specs, and my K-S2 is still good enough.
honestly, i was hoping for new autofocus system to break the image of pentax being system with poor autofocus compared to competition. yet same SAFOX as in K-3II

BTW, i played with my acons and 2 flash setups a little more since my last post here, and seems like i have worked out process on them.
My assumption that one of my units is not working correctly was wrong: they all working the same way. I believe, that it is batteries fault, for units quick discharge. U see, there is a marking on each unit, that it needs 3.3 V of power. There is a slots for 2 AAA size batteries. The rechargable batteries that i use is 1.2 V each. I know, that even 1.5 V Energizers works the same time as 1.2V ones. I ordered some 1.6V rechargables for test.
Now about P-TTL with 2 flashes. It does not work, and i guess, it is not supposed to. So i just switch transmitter mode to manual, all flashes to P-TTL, and work that way. Its a pity that i cannot get newer firmware because i do not have proper cable.

offtopic, but about Acons.
For some reason my recieving units discharges very vast, maybe twice as fast as flash itself.
aby clues why is that so, and how i can fix this?

Ok, then you can add "inconsistent performance reports from different users" to the list.

Acon does this, actually. Manual control from camera - only thing that i got working with 2 flashes.
Not for Pentax, to be precise.
I dont like them. Bad build quality, eat batteries like hell, not very reliable (i believe that one of my recievers is just randomly switches off).
But those are only P-TTL radio option for Pentax for now.

It is, but for one flash only.

Final update: 2 AF540 FGZ flash units failed to get stable results in P-TTL mode. Some shots overcast, some not. Also, seems one of my recievers is broken, batteries in it discharge very quickly, and it turns off with no reason. And it did not saw much use, what a shame.

I've made more tests today.
I managed to get things working in P-TTL, sort of... Both flashes must be in same mode: for me, rear curtain worked. And both flashes must be in -2.5 EV compensation, to get right exposure.
I hope i will have a chance to make a test with 2 AF 540FGZ flashes.
p.s. Acon recievers eat batteries like hell. They discharge faster, then batteries in flash. I did not noticed that in regular use (i'm not heavy strobe user).

I did not make myself clear. I meant, a list of Pentax lenses, tay say "AF speed on lens A is better then lens B". All on Pentax. Not to compare systems, but to compare lens.

all mentioned is bells and whistles. more important, that k-3ii has newer and better AF module, then k-70, which has same as k-s2.
althrough, k-3ii is more expensive.

I made some more tests. For now, it is clear that two P-TTL flashes from different manufactures can not work together on Acon triggers. Only usable results are with 1/125th shutter speed. It is even noticeble that flashes do not fire right in the same time.
Need more tests with flashes of same manufacturer.
P.S. I've also tested "manual power control" mode of the Acon transmitters. Mine is only v 3.0 firmware, so it is only mode available to me. But it works, and works ok, but you can not control power for each flash, they act like one.
