May thanks for your detailed reply. I'm new to film camera so this is a bit confusing. It was also because I mistakenly bought a SMC A/1.7 lens that was modded (the aperture contact removed from the rear) and I thought the K55/1.8 would have behaved the same. It seems to be the other way around.

When I mount the K-55/1.8 on the K1000, it seems I cannot adjust the aperature anymore (the elements don't move). When I remove the lens from the camera and check the aperture ring, the elements move as I adjust the value. Can you please advise on what the possible reason is, and how to make it work? Many thanks.

Hi Sir, I have a K-r and it's possible to set it. I gather it's the same for the K-x. All I do is going to Menu, -> Camera page 4 -> AF/AE-L Button -> Select ''Enable AF2"
On Camera page 1 you can all so select: single AF point or 11 select AF points, or auto 11 or auto 5 focus points. If you choose 11 AF select points, the 4 track pad will be used to navigate to the AF point of your interest. You cannot quickly adjust the ISO by pressing the ISO button anymore.

If some lenses need to be calibrated to fix BF and FF issues on a camera, should we use BBF to fine tune the AF? Thanks!

Hi Steve

Thank you for your detailed analyses. I'm not sure why I didn't see this reply of yours yesterday. I agree with you that for landscape and lighting conditions as such, spot metering is riskier to use. I myself learned it the hard way when many pics I took during my trip in Norway came out darker than these beach pics. That was when, thanks to veteran Pentaxians here, I learned that exposure was not only just about the triangle (aperture, shutter speed & ISO), but I should've taken into consideration the metering modes. And as you rightly pointed out, I was quickly (& foolishly) jumping to the conclusion that my camera was out of order. I still find myself super silly whenever I recall the incident back then. Now, given you mentioned the AF and AE linkage, that's something I want to learn as well. What are the effects when AF links and not links to AE in different metering modes and in the outcome pics? Grateful if you could provide some further guidance. Thank you very much! :D

Ah ha, very good tip for me to try. I go to the mountain a lot, too. Many thanks. Just to confirm the proper method to meter off the gray card, is that pointing the camera at it to meter, locking the exposure then starting to shoot with that? :)

Thank you! That pic was my minimum expectation. I wish it could have been a tad brighter originally. I'm aware I could pump it up a bit more using PP. It's just me feeling uncomfortable when I have to do a lot of PP, as I know the pictures could have been rendered better at the moment of capture. My preference would be taking good pics at the beginning, then tweak them just a little bit using PP. The colour rendition of this pic is the most ideal in my batch, IMHO. Though, I know it came out as a lucky shot. :D

This is a very good point. In fact, I just noticed this when I upgraded my laptop and migrated all the photo archives to it. What looked nice on my old laptop didn't look the same in the new one.

I should have said my expected end result looks like this. Same metering mode but for some reason, the brightness is just right (for me), as opposed to the underexposed ones I posted at the beginning. I did some PP but just a little bit. I'm taking note of all your valuable advice and will try again during my next trip. Hopefully, I can calculate the outcomes more precisely. Many thanks for all your kind and quick supports! :)

For pics that are much underexposed (to my liking) like these, the only way is to bring up the details using PP as per your suggestions. After reading all your advice, I think I need to stop beating myself up and start reviewing these pics with an open mind.

A gorgeous picture! Yeah, some of my (underexposed) pics could be saved after PP. If only I could intentionally capture those pics that way, I wouldn't have been seeking your advice by now. :D

Speaking of learning a bit about exposure and after some self-learning, I wish there are more guidances that point out the connections between all elements that affect exposure (aperture, shutter speed & ISO) with metering modes. I learned about these separately and I failed to see the connection earlier.

Thank you. I know I should have checked the histogram. Thus, when I look at such pics again I just want to kick myself in the bum.
Back to the pics, when I looked at the EXIF, my instinct also suggested it was the metering mode. Though, when I look at some other pictures (below), they weren't as dark and underexposed. All of them were taken with the same metering mode, what are the key elements that decide the exposure here? And can you confirm that mutizone metering for the win when I take picture at the beach? Thanks again.

Dear all

I just came back from my trip to Indonesia. It's the dry season over there with brilliant sunlights every day. Having said that, I'm very surprised when I found some pictures pretty underexposed under that lighting condition. :( I'm not sure where I was wrong with the camera settings. I enclose hereby some pics. Grateful if you could help shed some lights on this case. Many thanks in advance!

Dear sir, thank you for your kind reply. In my case, I do have a spare battery which is the proprietary one that came with the camera in the box. I'm sure the camera I have cost much less than your annual pension. I had someone buy it for me in Japan so that the cost was the lowest out there. :)
The challenge I occurred was not missing a shot due to a lack of battery power. I just didn't know that I should keep a charged battery in the camera all the time, as I would lose some settings when I took it out. Cheers!

---------- Post added 08-21-17 at 04:27 AM ----------

Thank you for sharing your practice. I prefer the AA batteries, too. My rechargeable eneloops have served me well in the past 5 years and I've just got some new batch. They're also much more eco-friendly. The weight feels right in the hand as opposed to the proprietary one when I put it in my K-r. As silly as it sounds, I didn't use the proprietary battery much since I first purchased my camera. I just left it there in the bag as a back-up. Now I should use that one more often, at least for the purpose of the battery swap. :)

Thank you so much for the confirmation! I will be more mindful about this in the future. :)

I have spare AA batteries and I use them most of the time. It's just the practice of keeping one battery in the camera whilst charging the other is new to me. I'm grateful that fellow Pentaxians have pointed that out to me. There's always a new thing to learn. :)

Many thanks. Does the depletion of internal battery affect the date and time only? Will the camera adjust my customised settings back to default settings, too?

When you said re-entering information, did you mean all settings or just the date and time? I'm looking into upgrading to another Pentax body, too. :)

I'm thinking the same. :)

---------- Post added 08-19-17 at 05:50 AM ----------

Thank you. It's a good practice to keep in mind, for my future gear. Even when you leave the battery in the camera body, it will discharge after some time. Do you take it out and charge it once in awhile. And for the settings will be lost after the internal and external batteries' power run out, did you mean the camera will switch back to default settings?

Thank you for further details. Now I'm curious about what is the best thing to do when I don't use the camera regularly. Let's say I use it once a month or once every 3 months when I travel. Should I leave the (fully charged, partially charged) battery in it?
