I need to confirm this is the right hood for a Pentax 40mm Prime Limited.

Hi, I retraced my steps on the walk where I lost the lens hood to my 40mm prime limited lens and miraculously found it! I can see how I might have lost it and would like to warn others who may have this lens. The lens cap screws on in the same direction that the lens hood screws on, so unless you have your thumb on the lens hood, it would be very easy to at least partially unscrew the hood as you are unscrewing the lens cap. That is apparently what happened. A fellow forum member has sent me a used hood and cap (I'll be receiving it today). Given my history with this lens, I will be very glad to have a spare. I would like to post this warning on whatever forums have to do with this particular lens. Do you have any suggestions on where I might post it? I am going to post it on the Amazon page for this lens and wrote to Ricoh. Thank you all for your replies to my original post.

Thank you for your responses. One of the forum members has offered to sell me a slightly used hood and cap so I'm all set. Joyce Keay

Giving up on repairing K-70. Thinking of going to K-1 but not the K-1 Mark II

Hi, I had a recent disaster with my K-70 - camera fell off of tripod, screen broke off. When I had the camera six months, it failed to work on a winter photo shoot. Sent it to Precision. They cleaned it and adjusted it but the comment on the return paper work makes me think they had no idea what caused it. For this recent disaster, Advance Camera says autofocus motor is jammed plus they can't get the part to fix the screen/hinge and will have to send it to the factory for repair. I have a protection plan but I've been reading the recent reviews for it and figure they will try to weasel out of it. My photo teacher figures repairs will probably be around $300-400 and that I should think about the K-1. I see Pentax has announced the K-1 Mark II becoming available in April from Adorama. I'm trying to decide between just getting a new K-70 body or getting a K-1 body (either from Amazon not Adorama), but not waiting for the K-1 Mark Ii. Evidently there will be some sort of upgrade available for K-1 owners to incorporate K-1 Mark II functions but I will not want to do that. One other thing is worrying me is that I don't know how confident I can be that the factory will uncover everything that could have been harmed by the fall off the tripod. This time around I will call the outfit that insures my car and house and insure my gear through them. Sooooooo, what do you think? Thanks.

Major problem with K-70

Hi, I'm very sorry you are having a problem with your Pentax. Was Amazon the supplier or was it actually supplied by another company through Amazon? Mine was supplied by Adorama and they only have a one-month return policy which is awful. Have you called Amazon to see if you could return it to them if they were the actual supplier? Precision did fix the camera and it has been working fine ever since. However, I have seen a ton of bad reviews about Precision on Facebook. About a month ago I was careless and didn't push camera and lens completely together when putting on a lens and my camera and lens got stuck together. I managed to get an e-mail for Precision through Ricoh and sent them an e-mail, but it took them about two weeks to get back to me. In the meantime I contacted another company, Advance Camera in Portland Oregon who got back to me right away. I sent the camera to them overnight (even though it cost me a bundle to do so) and they had the camera fixed and on its way back to me before Precision returned my e-mail. Repair | Advance Camera Inc.

If you really want to contact Precision, the only email I have is info@precisioncamera.com. Their web site is:

Contact Us | Precision Camera

but I would strongly suggest Advance Camera instead.

I hope you get it fixed quickly. Joyce Keay

This is an update to my original post. Last Sunday I called Amazon to explain the problem I have been having with the camera and to ask for a replacement. They said that because it actually came from another seller (Adorama) I would have to ask them. I e-mailed them and they said because I've had the camera for more than 30 days they could not take it back. So I called Amazon back and told them. They gave me the phone number of the outfit with whom I have the 3- or 4-year protection plan who said during the first year it is under the manufacturer's warranty. I tried to call Pentax but couldn't get past their main phone menu (when I hit 2 for repair, it bounced me back to the main menu). Finally I hit 0 and got a live person. I explained the situation and she gave me the number of Precision Camera which, she said, is the only authorized Pentax repair facility in the USA. I called and waited through several cycles of "your call is important to us" then the recording switched to "We can't take your call now. Please leave a message." which I did leaving my land line. I also left a detailed message on their web site leaving my e-mail address. That was Wednesday and nobody has gotten back to me. I'm calling Amazon again tomorrow. They said last Sunday, basically, that if all else failed they would take care of me. Right now I am pretty unhappy with Pentax. Be very careful about buying anything expensive from Amazon that is actually being supplied by another company. You will be at the mercy of that company's return policy.

Recommendation of a WR macro lens for the K-70?

Hi, does anybody have a recommendation for a WR macro lens for a K-70? I've been using the Raynox DCR-150 macro/close-up converter lens with my Pentax 55-300 lens. It's OK but I'm hoping for better results from a dedicated macro lens. Thanks. Joyce Keay

Wow! Thank you all very much for responding. At first it alll sounded too technical and I was thinking that I might just not buy one. Then my photo teacher recommended this one - $29.97 on Amazon but less when I applied my Discover points against the purchase. We're on Cape Cod so we'll be using it for water pics for sure but I don't know what else he has up his sleeve.

Hi, Supposedly they have repaired it and it is on its way back to me. It should be delivered later today. I will definitely
report back here after I've had a chance to test it out. It is good to know that there is another authorized repair place, just in case.
Thank you all for your concerns and kind replies. Joyce Keay

Hi, OK I have my camera back and the display seems to be OK. I called them a couple of days before the camera was out of repair to tell them of a problem I was having with the OK button. She said she would relay the info to repair but I'm still having a problem. Perhaps there is a setting that needs to be changed. Right now it is showing that I can change ISO, flash, AWB, and drive but I can't get it back to where I can change focus spots. Also the screen is showing something I do not remember before. In the upper left corner it is saying P User1 and it has been reset not to back button focus. How do I get rid of P User 1? Thank you. Joyce Keay

Update to the update. I solved the problem of not being able to click to get between focus points and ISO, etc. I needed to set the AF area to Select. Whew!

This was a hand-held shot at 1/13 sec at f5.6 shutter priority, ISO 1600. The light was very blue so i had to adjust the light in Elements. I'm a newbie to the DSLR world since August 2016 and am taking a follow-up digital photo course at the Cape Cod Art Association. Taking a three-day Winterscapes workshop next week where we'll spend all of Saturday and most of Sunday in the field all over the Cape. Can't wait!
