Reviews of the Manfrotto 405 head are scarce but I came across a good one on Photography Life (2015): Manfrotto 405 Pro Geared Head Review - Photography Life
I don't own one myself but swap with a friend who has one as and when needed. It works well upon my Manfrotto 190MFV and 190XPROB upon which I'd previously used my 460MG. Whilst the 405 may be overkill even for my heaviest DSLR and film cameras I much prefer the controls on the 405 - much more accessible and easier to turn and lock than the stubby ones on the 460MG.
Recently though, after undertaking some astral photography I dug out my old Manfrotto 701RC2 fluid head and I have found I much prefer this head as it is not only great for videography but superb for stills too, especially for panning action stills and when using very long lenses for star-gazing imagery. Although the 701 lacks a 90 degree lateral tilt head for portrait orientation, I use an L-bracket with two Manfrotto RC2 (200PL-14) quick release plates attached to permit rapid orientation changes.

The first part of your question asked how do you ascertain which version of firmware is installed on you Pentax K200D. This is a very simple procedure:
Turn your camera on while holding down the MENU button.
The version number will appear in the center of the LCD screen
The original firmware shipped with the Pentax K200D from January 2008 was v1.00. Thus far there has been only one firmware update and this is v1.01 which was released in 2010. It chiefly resolves issues with some SDHC memory cards and also has an updated lens database.
