Political Joke Thread

I thought a joke about our Australian Prime Minister was needed (although he has become a joke in his own right).
Hope you enjoy!

Kevin Rudd was visiting a primary school in Tasmania.

One class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.

The teacher asked Mr. Rudd if he would like to lead the discussion on the word ‘tragedy’.

So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a ‘tragedy’.

A little boy stood up and offered: ‘If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a ‘tragedy’.

‘No,’ said Rudd ‘that would be an accident.’

A little girl raised her hand: ‘If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy’.

‘I’m afraid not,’ explained Mr. Rudd ‘that’s what we would call a great loss’.

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Rudd searched the room. ‘Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?’

Finally, at the back of the room, little Johnny raised his hand.

In a quiet voice he said: ‘If a plane carrying you and Mrs. Rudd was struck by a ‘friendly fire’
missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.’

‘Fantastic!’ exclaimed Rudd . ‘That’s right. And can you tell me why that would be tragedy?’

‘Well,’ says little Johnny ‘it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn’t be a great loss and it probably wouldn’t be a ****ing accident either!’

I have just, today, downloaded the free trial for Neat Image. It will only let you clean up an area of 1200 x 1200 pixels for the demo, but from the little bit I have tried so far it seems to do a very good job. I will consider purchasing the full version as it seems far more useable than Photo Shop. I have no experience of Noise Ninja.

Hi Alvin, thanks for the reply.

The time was about 9.40pm (daylight saving time) so it was just at that time when the effect of the sunset is disappearing and stars are becoming visible. The Orange effect wasn't quite so ponounced but I was trying to capture the tail veiw of the comet and in getting this it probably over emphasised the orange on the horixon.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I am from Bunbury in the South West of Western Australia. Have been meaning to join up here for a while. Having read through threads on different ocassions this seems like a very helpful and friendly forum so I am looking forward to spending some time here.

I have a Pentax DL which I bought last year because I wanted a new camera for a trip to Hong Kong. It took me a while to re learn SLR photography as I hadn't used one for about 4 years (first SLR was a Pentax ME that was stolen, then a Ricoh XRM that had a nasty accident involving some concrete stairs), but am really enjoying the return.

Best Wishes
Kim

Congratulations on the camera. I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it. Very nice first shot too. Way better than my first shot when I got my DL last year. I found I had a lot of re learning to do after having not used an SLR for about 4 years.

Cheers

Hi All

I was going to post these over at DPreview today but I can't seem to get onto their site. They may be having problems? Anyway I have been meaning to join here so that issue has given me the motivation.

Anyway the view of the comet was spectacular here in Western Australia last night. The following photos do not really do it justice but they are my attempt to capture the inspiring view. The photos were taken with a DL and a Tamron 18-200 lens. To give a sense of the size of the tail the second photo was taken with a focal length of about 120mm, to try to capture as much of the scene as possible.

For those interested in the location the photos were taken near Ferguson Valley (if you are interested in obscure Wine regions it is worth a visit on your way to Margaret River) in the hills to the East of Bunbury in Western Australia. The lights in the bottom right of the first photo are the town of Capel.

Hope you enjoy them.

Cheers
Kim
