Final update
Happy to report last Friday I received the 15-30mm. On the invoice it said "Due to the replacement of certain parts on your unit, it now has a new serial number", and under "description of repairs" it says: "New serial number is ########### Factory replacment."

Everything works and looks like a dream to my eyes. Very happy with the service and repairs Precision performed, and I will give them positive reviews wherever I can.

Attached are some samples of this weekends shoots with the K1 and the 15-30mm. The Wonder Bread rooftop is one frame of a timelapse you can check out here Instagram

Update:
Last night I got my K1 back!
It appears to be fixed and working correctly, but I only did a quick test and will put it through it's paces over the next few days.

It came back very clean, with the new 1.4 firmware installed. Packaged well, but was shipped UPS ground with no signature required. Thankfully my wife was home :D:D

I snapped a few pics with my FA 43mm Limited. The lens felt like it attached as it was supposed to. The pics turned out OK, handheld wide open in a dimly lit room. Again, I will put it through the paces in the next few days.

So far, so good!

Now I just have to wait a while longer for the 15-30mm lens to get back from the factory.

Surprise update... they shipped my K-1 today. According to UPS it will be in my hot little hands on Monday.

So by my count, 18 business days. Originally they told me 7-15 business days, unless they had to order a part (and they did), which would add another 7-15 business days. 18 business days is a great turn around time, IMO.

Strange though... following the timeline of this thread, last week they had no ETA. Six days ago, they gave me an ETA of the parts arriving to Precision Feb 15th. Today, the camera is fixed and shipped. Weird, but I'll take it and I'm thankful :)

Update... woof. Got this in my inbox today

This is in regards to the lens only. So I paid. It took them 2 weeks to figure out they couldn't fix it, and that they have to send it to the factory. The customer service woman said the extra $$ was mostly to cover shipping a high value item. She said to expect a delay of 3-5 weeks.

Double woof.

While I had her on the phone, I asked her about my K-1. The parts they needed are:
1.Top cover rubber (why, IDK)
2. Mode dial assembly (It appeared to work fine and be undamaged, but at this point, whatever)
3. Mount ring rubber
4. Mounting ring

She said the parts have been ordered, but there is no ETA available.

No ETA...triple woof. And it's been almost a month since I sent it in the mail.

:hmm::hmm:

Status update:
They told me on the phone last week the repairs would take 7-15 business days, unless they had to order parts, which would then add another 7-15 business days. Yesterday, the status for both the camera and lens was "In Repair", but it was changed for the camera today. Looks like now they have to order parts for the camera and not the lens.
I have to say, customer service has been great so far. Both phone conversations have been pleasant with customer service, and they're definitely keeping the repair status lookup updated. No complaints so far!

So I found out the bad news via email quote... $333.50 USD for the lens and $333.50 USD for the camera. In my estimation, this is a somewhat fair price...not cheap by any means, but not extravagantly overpriced either.
Going to talk with them on the phone tomorrow, to pay them and to see how long it will take.

That surprised me too. I was ready willing and able to make the drive up to Toronto to deliver and pick up in person.

So I shipped it out Monday and my package, according to Fedex, was signed for and received today at 12:27pm. It cost $50.95 to ship ground with a declared value of $4,000.

Now I wait, although I'm not reasonably expecting a call or email from them until after the New Year. If I don't hear anything, I'll call them middle of next week.

So, have a happy New Year, Pentaxians!

So here begins my tale of woe...hope there is a happy ending by the end of this thread!

My K-1 with the 15-30mm got knocked over backwards on a tripod. The fall was only about 18"-24". It landed on it's screen side, and I immediately thought the LCD was toast. The LCD was fine, not even a scratch. However, the weight of the 15-30 caused the lens mounts to be bent on BOTH the 15-30 and the K1.

The good news is the autofocus still works, and I was able to remove and reattach the damaged 15-30mm easily. The bad news is the mount on the 15-30mm pulled apart badly, and the mount on the K-1 is bent and a screw is missing\broken. I tried to attach my Limited 43mm 1.9 to the K1, no dice. But the bent 15-30mm goes right back on and works fine, aside from half of the image being out of focus. See attached images... it's not pretty.

I live in Buffalo, New York, and given the horrible reviews of Precision, I called around to get it repaired somewhere, ANYWHERE else...but no luck. No one local will touch it. I called KEH, they said they'd look at it, but being such a new camera, they would probably just send it to Precision. I even had the idea that, living 2 hours away from Toronto, CA, I would drive it up to Sun Camera, Canada's official Pentax repair center, because their reviews are much better. Ironically, the man I talked to at Sun Camera told me that they "don't have the tools to repair the K-1, and Pentax advised them to send K-1 repairs to Precision". D'oh!!

So, Precision Camera is the only option. I hope the online reviews and testimonies of the members of this forum are wrong. I do take comfort in the fact that the rep from KEH told me "Precision has gotten much better in the last few years, so I wouldn't worry", and the rep from Sun Camera had nothing but positive things to say about his personal dealings with Precision. And for me personally so far, the small experience with Precision has been good. They got right back to me when I asked for a quote online, and the customer service woman was very nice and knowledgeable when I called.

I will keep this thread updated as soon as I get new information. As I said in the beginning, I hope my Precision Camera story has a happy ending.
