Ok so that’s good. I just need to see what zoom thyristor means, versus auto thyristor to be ok. Thanks

I see ones advertised there for the 285 as zoom thyristor? Is that different

Has anybody here use this flash before? I am looking at it for my K1000. Is it good and does it have auto Thyristor?
Thanks

Hi Steve,
Yes i just realised that. For shooting online i think 22 mp is enough. I'd rather to be able to see where i am focusing much clearer
Thanks

At a photo shoot yesterday in which i was using my k1 up against quite a few people who were using 5d mark 3's, i noticed just how different the shots turned out. The main difference being that many of mine were soft or out of focus. I realised that single point focus on the k1 is very tough to see through the viewfinder so getting sharp onto the subjects eye was very hit or miss and a hope for the best scenario. As i shoot primarally all portraits and or full body shots this is quite a concern for me.
I'd be interested in your opinions on this, as i am looking at switching to the mark 3 which is of similar standard to k1, but af/seeing an illuminated focus point/even slightly bigger is very good.

I am using the Pentax k1 and getting really well focused shots is a big challenge. The focus point is very small and it can be barely Be seen with no illumination. Is anyone else having this issue?

"I could have focused on the flowers instead of the eyes, and narrowed down a bit to extend the DoF to the ring in front and the eyes at the back, or I could have asked for the model to alter her pose so the ring finger was back and across, at the same level as the flowers. Alternatively, she could have rotated her body a bit and pushed/turned her face forward"
Thankyou Clackers and C_Jones for that example,
So from what i understand increasing dof should be the focus to bring more into focus versus narrower which would make sense with 2-3 people as well, and as C_Jones mentioned starting at around f13. The part i seem to be missing here is with an aperture such as this, wouldn't the focus point be less irrelevant? I will be using single point afs, as yes it does make sense with what you said with a9.

I thought single point was shooting just the one person

Oh that's interesting, so do you use auto 9 still in afs with this, or would i maybe be safer using afc with back button focus to be safer if there is any movement?

As this thread is focused on getting perfect focus each time, i'd like to know what settings any of you use to shoot group shots of 2-3 people, and to get all eyes on focus, preferably on the k1 if you have it. I just posted a thread on this though this seems more relevant. afs mode and auto 9, which can kind of be hit or miss, or something else?

I am looking for what settings you guys use for getting focus on more than one set of eyes in a shot on the k1. Shooting in aperture priority or manual i have tried afs, auto9 points, which only gave me one person in focus 50% of the time, with the camera is making the decision. Is this just a matter of increasing my aperture higher, or is there something better? Thanks

I am looking for a fill light flash for K1 low light outdoor situations, front lighting, and indoor where there is not significant light. My focus is on streetfashion (full body) and portraits, and i am very new to this game, so hopefully not something to technical but also will do a very good job. I am thinking a speedlight.
On a side note i do occasionally shoot freeze motion such as skateboarders, where i've been told to shoot fast flash duration and a high output of light. Not as essential as the above though.
I don't have any other supporting equipment which may be important to know, such as umbrellas, softboxes, strobes etc as yet.
Any recommendations would be appreciated

In afc mode for freezing motion, i see shutter priority is recommended, however then its a back and forth for shooting stills. Does anyone here use aperture priority and afc together, or afc manual?

Thankyou Adam. Is it worth just staying in afc mode only and using the method of afs (push once then take shot versus holding it down) to take shots like portraits as well? (if i may move or they do to). I have heard some people do this.

After just learning about using back button focus and using this now as my primary focus over the shutter, i am trying to find out when i am shooting in afc mode, if need to be hold it down while i am taking the actual picture to, or is it a matter of just pressing it once and tracking the motion?
On a seperate - If anyone uses and of the sel modes, s,m,l, id be interested in which you decide to use
Thanks

I'm not sure what c20 is or set 2, and i assume sel 1 is just normal sel in which there is only 1. I'll need to find info on group shots as a9 gives me a 50/50 of an in focus shot

I have been looking to find information on afc tracking for the k1, and more specifically the different modes such as sel s,m,l and spot. There isn't alot of info in the manual as to what circumstances would i choose one such as a bigger focus area, which i am assuming isn't always the best one to choose.
My other question is based on here https://www.pentaxforums.com/reviews/pentax-k-1-review/focusing-af.html
1. For stationary subjects we really liked the A-9 mode, though an A-5 mode, which the K-1 lacks, would be a welcome supplement for more precise control.
2. For portrait photography, we made extensive use of SEL mode with great results.
How can a9 be recommended in afs, when potraits are also stationary subjects and sel mode was used extensively, which is only active in afc?
Thanks

I am looking to buy a 35 mm lense for the k1, and camera across the sigma art. From what i read they don't fit well without on the mounts without scratching. Is this still the case, and if so are there any other 35mm primes that anyone would recommend for the K1?
Thanks
