On a walk last Saturday, we encountered a Great Blue Heron fishing in the shallow waters of Tucker Creek. Here are some photos of a successful effort. Enjoy.

this flower. These little bees are very quick and their wings beat at extremely high speeds. I should have doubled my shutter speed. I no longer attempt to track them; I just focus on a flower and wait (and hope) they fly by and are in focus. It worked this time. :)

The marketing end of manufacturing is in the business of creating wants/ need in the mind of their target. This is why people buy the latest and greatest cameras, cameras that can autofocus on a black cat in a coal cellar and hand back a perfectly focused and exposed picture with no noise.

And then they use that camera primarily for taking cute pictures of their tabby cat sleeping on the couch.

Marketing tells them they must have a camera that can pinpoint focus on the eye of an eagle diving at 150kph or else they won't be able to take pictures at all, so they go out and buy the camera, but they never go to where eagles fly.

It is just dust and particles that in the air all around us. You can reduce it by keeping the body cap and lens mount caps on at all times except when mounting lenses. Keep the camera mount pointing down when swapping lenses, and avoid dusty dry environments when doing so if you can.

Changing a lens when in LV is not a good idea. Not only is the sensor exposed, but it is also charged with electric current. Turn camera off when swapping lenses.

Any software can deal with dust spots easily enough like so..............

Thanks for sharing this. The only ads we are run are Google Adsense, which exclusively determines the content. If you typically/only use privacy browsers, I wonder if you're seeing lower-quality ads because Google doesn't know what else to show you?

I've gone ahead and blocked the domains you pictured above and will be reviewing a sample of ads to see if there are any other low hanging fruit. The ones I have come across are predominantly shopping or camera-related...

I'd say the best thing you can do is report any malicious ads below, because if they are shown to some users here, they're likely also affecting even more on other sites:
How to report an ad - Google Ads Help

Not quite, unfortunately, but if you make a donation you won't be shown any ads on the forum.

Are we conditioned to spend ?

I also see that many people want to give off the illusion that they have money & status, but man! They're so in debt that it's not even funny.

I personally do not care about what someone drives, where they live, what they wear, what they eat, what they buy, where they shop, & whatnot. Material possessions do not make a person. I have met many useless "well off" people, like I have met many useless "poor" people. Likewise, I have met many wonderful "well off" people, like I've met many wonderful "poor" people. People are how people are with or without material possessions.

But yeah. Everything that I see is conditioning people to spend, spend, & spend. It has gotten aggressively worse during the past 10 years. We're all bombed with ads constantly & many people fall for it. They feel like if they don't buy or subscribe to <insert product, service or whatever here>, they're missing out. Advertisers make sure that you know that your quality of life is subpar, that you are unhappy, that you are incomplete, that you can never achieve a certain status, & many other similar things if you don't buy their <insert here>.

Why do cemeteries have fences around them? It's not like the residents can escape.
Oh, wait, maybe it's to keep the crowds out? After all, people are just dying to get in.

No smart phone, no tablet, no laptop.
He just sat there drinking a cup of coffee like some psychopath.

I'm thinking that this drive to spend (mainly in order to keep up with fictitious standards) runs hand-in-hand with the disposable society we've created....

I've read how many have posted in this thread that they like to maintain older technologies well past their normal lifespan, myself included... but we are in the minority here - on both sides of the Atlantic....

So many conversations would be improved by reference to philosophers who have already trod this ground. Thanks for elevating the conversation!

We should be aware, whatever personal choices we make, that we live in the end-times of rampant extractive capital. Any who follow, perhaps even the next generation, will not have the luxuries that the privileged few (e.g. us) currently enjoy. As luxuries I consider all those "natural but not necessary" desires Epicurus described so well in the Letter to Menoeceus.

Decisions made without awareness of sociopolitical context cannot be wise decisions.

And if one is having an lens/ body communications problem, the contacts are the first thing to look at and maintain. Once we've eliminated a possible connection issue, if the problem persists, then it's on to the more complicated stuff.

Emotional frustration due to things not working takes its toll on logical thinking. Take a deep breath, investigate when could have gone wrong with either lens or camera.

I would suspect the K-70 also. I have never had a single lens with DC motor failure. I have had only 1 SDM failure. I know SDM fails more often but I have been lucky. I have heard about a few DC motor failures but they seem rare. The fact that the behavior of the camera is similar across different lenses suggests a camera issue not a lens issue. It is still remotely possible you are just having a bad lens month... but that seems unlikely.

The problem with electrical contacts is that you can't always tell by looking at them if they need cleaning or not. I have a smart watch for monitoring steps taken, heart rate, calories burned etc... It charges via a magnetically-attached cable with three gold contact pins on it, and these make contact with three flat, gold contact plates on the back of the watch. Actually, the pins look just like those inside the mount of a modern K-mount DSLR, and the plates are just like those on a DC or SDM lens. From time-to-time, the charging connection becomes intermittent, and though the contacts don't look dirty, I have to clean them with an alcohol wipe to restore normal function.

Whilst I don't clean the contacts on my cameras and lenses often, I will every now and then whether they appear to need it or not - and the same for all other critical aspects of my cameras and lenses. It's just a personal preference...

It is the first thing a user needs to do if they appear to have a lens/body communication issue.

Just because one person has never been in a plane crash doesn't mean they don't happen, it means they haven't had the misfortune of being involved in one..
