Considering moving to medium format 645D or 645Z

I moved from the Sony a7rii to the Pentax 645Z two months ago and I'm not looking back. This thing is a beast of a camera and 90% of my shooting is handheld. But, I shoot portraits and use the 300mm f4 and the 90mm marco almost exclusively. Major love for this camera...

I've had a couple of offers from galleries here in Houston. But I've done them before and so far they seem to be more of a pain than the last one I did. I love doing exhibits, but the galleries do them to make money and sometimes that gets in the way of an enjoyable experience.

Indra is one of the most consistent (color wise) lights I've ever used. If there is a shift, it's imperceptible to the human eye. I shot Profoto for years, moved to the Phottix and rovelight from there. The Rovelight is a great light for the price but it does have color shift. The indra matches the profotos I've used for consistency in every way and I get more shots per charge than anything I've used before....the form factor, the ability to put it in my bag and the ease of which to use it are amazing.

Ok, so little update...Went out to my local store who I do a lot of set up videos with and we played around with all the different triggers on the Cactus V6II and the 645z. The phottix system was the only one I couldn't get HSS to work with. Not sure why but even putting the phottix odin on top would allow it to be adjusted at all. we got pro foto, bowens canon everything else worked fine. Just not Phottix. But, I also took in my backup lights I keep in my studio, the flashpoint rovelight 600B. Put their trigger on top of the cactus and bam! HSS on the 645z.....all the way up to 1/4000. So, I love the phottix, it is amazing and I can put it in my bag with my camera equipment no problem. Plus, i can get it to work with the flashes I have left over from my sony days. So, on the times when I need HSS, I can take out the Roverlights and the rest use the phottix. Thanks everyone for all the input and help....

As far as Good..the store didn't have those so I couldn't test them.

You're very quick to assume I ditched Pentax. I actually moved from Sony a7rii to the 645Z....So I doubt I'd be moving back

Yes I'm still reading, it's only been a couple of days. I've used Phottix with Sony for the last few years and love their products. The indra is an incredible light, I contacted the Anon people and they said their trigger should work with the indra. If that doesn't work I'll star t exploring other options. But I love the indra, it's an amazing light (one of the best I've used.)

Titale says it all, I'm a portrait photographer and I'm wondering if the 90mm is worth the mone? Is the performance a significant step up from the 120mm?

Thanks in advance

Cosplayers and photographer at New York ComicCon

I'm new to the forum and I shoot a ton of cosplayers so I'll stick my nose in here. a little about mePhotography is my only job, it's how I make my living. I make a decent amount on the back end from some professional cosplayers. But, outside of it, it's just like any other model who wears a costume. You are shooting it for the artistic interest. I use all my cosplay photographs as marketing material. I've gotten more jobs because I've had a superman, a wonder-woman or some other cosplayer in a bid portfolio. I don't go to as many cons as others, but I do go to 4-5 a year. But, think about it this way..why do people shoot landscapes for fun? It's an artistic expression.

most of the photographers and videographers I know do it for fun. They travel to cons and shoot cosplayers. They have a group of friends they hang out with, they meet new people and they shoot awesome pictures. Almost all of them are fans of anime, comic books or science fiction. Most even cosplay themselves.... But in the end, they do it for the community and their love of all things geek....

It's the exact same reason why anyone would shoot a subject for fun....

Quick note, when I mess with Power sync, and I turn it all the way up to 32, I get half a picture with the bottom half being black...sync is messed up and I don't know why

Hello, new to the 645z but I love the image quality. I'm a full time commercial and advertising photographer and I just finished my first shoot with the Zed and and I was pleasantly surprised by how much better the image quality was over my A7rii

Hope you enjoy
