Regarding bizarre audio....is that issue with all of their models or just certain ones? What audio issues are there? How do you get around them?

Ahh, well that's great to know. Both formats in my opinion are very popular. I know for definate that mpeg is safe as a lot of editors allow you to open/save files in this format.

thanks for the info. I remember with the Panasonic FZ-38, the video codec are in i think AVHC, which I find very difficult to edit. But what are the codecs for the pentax? Are they difficult to edit?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to see if I can sort out a deal with Haris, so will let you know how we get on.

I was just curious to know why do people think that a pentax K-5 camera which is older, is better than say for example a K-S1/K-S2 or a K-30 ?

Hello everyone.

I really found normhead's comment hilarious regarding this thread that's still ongoing. All I can say is that this thread started off just about recommending a camera, but if you read back, people were also giving tips on how to use the fuji camera as well as me posting output results. Also it goes to show how helpful most members on here are for which I'm very grateful. If it's of any problem at all, then I'd be more than happy to start a new thread.

@ Haris - No harm in checking it out....Can you pls PM me some pics of your camera, lens, accessories etc? I'll have a look, but I'll need to wait a bit until ebay/paypal return the money to my dad's account.

@ Unclevanya - I don't mind mind a complex camera...is that what the K-S1 is?

My needs are:-
Must be able to output excellent high quality photos
A reasonable movie recorder (if possible built-in flash must work for darker videos)
Interchangeable lens that are cheap such as Helios,
a cheap AF zoom lens, similar to what you get on P&S or Bridge cameras - but doesn't have to have a massive zoom range
IBIS
Can take SDHC/SDXC cards
Built-In Flash

BONUS: WI-FI, Not too heavy, Not too large,

I will have a look at the issue of wide-open, because this is an advice that photator also gave to me. So now it's set constantly at F8.

Here's the FZ38 photos:-

Thanks guys for your feedback and advice. For those who are encouraging me to stick with photography, I can assure you I definitely. However I plan to change my camera as soon as possible. But until then I stick with the fuji and keep practising.

I agree that I like a lot of beginners and amateurs tend to sometimes take photos with the camera away from my face, but it's never fully arms out, but rather arms slightly bent just enough to see the screen.

I do try to keep as still as possible, but it's impossible to totally freeze. The idea of a tripod is great, however this would be useless if I want to take a quick snapshot of my family whilst we're out on short trips, because my family members, especially young kids naturally can't keep still.

One question that's on my mind is if my old trusty Panasonic FZ-38 Bridge camera could take a great shot without any tripods, then why aren't I getting decent results with this camera &/or lens being a lot more expensive and has a larger sensor? I admit the FZ-38 doesn't have any bokeh, but the photos it produces are much more sharper and vibrant.

thanks Haris. just over £30 inc delivery. A bit on the expensive side, but it's money well-spent IMHO. The only minor niggle I have with it is that it could be slightly more sharper, but other than that I think it's an excellent lens.

Hi everyone,

Below are some links to the photos I've been Slightly blurry and noisy. I think this is because of shaking and higher ISO settings. I most likely will be returning this camera, due to lack of image/body stabilisation and size. The lens I'm definitely keep though, because I love the blur/bokeh effects.

To be honest, now that you've mentioned the screen, I actually do find it difficult in viewing. Also the lack of image/body stabilisation doesn't help currently many of the shorts are very blurry.

I have taking some photos, but not sure if they are any good:-

Have a look and please let me know of your opinions.

Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Nice to see so many replies and interest in my thread. Although I've read everyone's replies, unfortunately I can't reply to every individual post as it would take me a whole day .

A couple of things I'd like to say....
  • Some of you keep forgetting that I just don't have limitless budget. For example those whom are showing me cameras like the Pentax K-1, are being ludicrous as that camera's body is like £1500 on ebay, whereas the Fuji X-M1 is only £140, so no comparison there at all and well out of my reach when it comes to affordability. If you are going to recommend a camera and lens, kindly please stick within the £300 budget.

  • Secondly, your also forgetting that I'm a total newcomer on the camera scene, so a mirrorless camera like the Fuji X-M1 is pretty complex for someone who's used to using point and shoot and I think it's a great camera for those whom are still amateurs.

  • Thirdly, I'm still in early stages (i.e. 2 days since owning the fuji), so I still have the time to exchange this camera, but I'm thinking that I should at least try and get the feel of whether this is suitable for me and simultaneously why not practice taking bokeh/portrait photos at the same time.

I hope I've not upset anyone, but if I have then I am sorry.

I'm at the moment not going to jump ship too soon as I first want to give it my best try to see if I can get used to it. If not, then that's when I'll consider a change... Or at least a change of lens to a lighter version if possible. There's no harm in looking at other options though.

Morning everyone,

Firstly thanks very much for the ebay advice....are these sniper sites for ebay uk too or just usa? if only usa, which ones are for uk?

Right my main reason for early morning message is that I'm now not too sure about the camera. Don't get me wrong, the camera and it's features are absolutely great, but I bet you never thought you'd hear me saying, this but it's size seems to now be a negative for me. I think it's because the helios lens is pretty large and heavy, so it makes the camera hang down from the front. That weight causes achy hands and I'm wondering whether a big camera might be a better solution.

Just to be clear, it's still early days as I know sometimes it takes a bit longer to get used to using it, so I'm still holding onto it, but do you think this feeling is normal and can you give me any advice?

Actually camera looks a lot better than in the photo and I unless I want to spend a lot of money, I can't avoid the looks of the MF lens.
