Apparently the entire thread went into solving who the DCXPERT really are.... lol So far it seems like they are affiliated to CRK but being masked....

you are absolutely right that distributor is not meant to compete with the retailers and CRK is indeed a distributor

"Founded in 1934, C.R. Kennedy is Australia's largest independent importer and distributor of photographic equipment"

I had a chat with Camera Electronics and they have provided me competitive pricing for the batteries. I just placed order with them and ETA is about 7 to 10 days. I also received the actual invoice from Camera Electronics which is great:)

In regards to competitive pricing for Pentax gears in general, Camera Electronics agreed they will assist so that it can attract more potential buyers for Pentax. They have also asked me to share this with friends that they can . This is great and if many resellers can provide competitive pricing it will be better for Pentax as a whole. As all purchases are fulfilled by CRK, its good for their business as well.

Special thanks to DeKay and carlb for recommending Camera Electronics as well. A quick phone call indeed turned out to be an exceptional service :)

Probably I need to change the title of this thread to "Mystery about DCXPERT, who are they?"

Good day Pentaxians,

I recently purchased 21mm f 2.4 lens from dcxpert and apparently, I had to calibrate it to +-10 to get good sharpness and am not sure if further tuning is required. Apparently, that’s the last copy available in silver when I placed the order. I sent a note to seller if there is another copy available and then received a response stating the lens needs to be tested and I believe I have to follow the drill of sending the camera and lens together for calibration. As per ebay’s return policy, I retuned the item the very next day and also the filter (purchased for this lens) which was never even opened since I did not need it.
I received the refund and then later dcxpert blocked me in ebay from purchasing any further. I have sent a note to the seller but no response and also checked with ebay customer service who said I adhered to the policy and nothing wrong from my side. They said they will send a note as well.

I have purchased lot of Pentax kits from dcxpert in past and they played a major role in providing sales for Pentax in Australia due to their competitive price or else I would not be able to afford it. The service was very good and I never returned any parts in the past. Apparently, I do not have luxury of taking my K1 camera to the showroom and try and test the lens before purchasing since in Australia we do not have any physical stores selling Pentax.

I had a chat with C.R.Kennedy and was told dcxpert was run by third party (Brian)and its not affiliated to C.R.Kennedy in anyway. They just drop ship the parts on their behalf. They said dcxpert is separate and I need to liaise with them. They said that they did test the lens and it was not faulty which I stated it needs to be calibrated in conjunction with the camera. If the calibration is within +-5 range, I would have happily kept the lens but with 10 calibrations, its way out. I do not want to send back and forth my camera and lens (Sydney to Melbourne) to get it fixed.

I understand if the return is going to cost some money for seller (return post charge, restocking fees may be) and I told C.R.Kennedy that as a customer I’m happy to take that cost but they need to be transparent. But if you adhere to ebay policies as a seller and even though I have purchased so many items in past, its not right for dcxpert to block a legitimate user.

Anyway, think am now inclining to move away from Pentax unfortunately (been a Pentaxian since k30 ) since it’s getting harder and harder to get a decent support for sales. C.R.Kennedy is amazing and their support is great, but their price is very steep compared to dcxpert.

True. I told the technician the same and also stated I hated using live view. So far, happy with the results when I tested in nearby park. Can test the lens more once the lockdown has been lifted.

True. Think I expected way too much from this lens :) Was juggling between this one and DA* 200 and finally pulled trigger on this one.

Nope, Sydney. Apparently C.R.Kennedy in Sydney does not do any repairs and it gets sent to Melbourne branch.

Is Sigma 85 f/1.4 EX DG OK on K-1

I don't have both but was on similar confusion to chose between sigma 85 or Pentax 77 limited and ended up going with 77 limited due to its size and the pixie dust/ out of focus rendering everyone calls it. Have not been disappointed so far. In terms of Sigma, I had bad experience with 35 1.4 art and hence am staying away from sigma.

70-200 is a great lens to what i have heard and its in my bucket list. For me , its in a different category to 77 or 85mm focal length.

Experience with C.R.Kennedy (Sigma and Pentax) Service issues : Sigma 35mm Pentax k1

That is correct. The USB dock may fix certain focus issues but not all. Especially the 2 to infinity setting overlaps the setting with 0.6 to 1 meter.
Sigma should fix the issues with lens as part of warranty instead of forcing users to buy the USB dock. Yes , it reduces time in sending the kit to service center but I really doubt on their QC dept. May be am one of the unlucky ones

Experience with C.R.Kennedy (Sigma and Pentax) Service issues : Sigma 35mm Pentax k1

Hi,

My Sigma 35mm Art 1.4 lens was sent to C.RKennedy the third time along with my Pentax K1. The first time, I have sent just the lens without the camera body (my mistake) and I was told it was calibrated but I did not find any improvement. The second time, I was told that they found issues with my Pentax K1 and it was calibrated and my lens worked fine. But still I had focusing issues primarily from 1.5 meter to infinity. I had discussion with the service center personnel before sending it to them the third time. Apparently I was told that the calibration will be done within the lens itself and I will not using the USB dock and hence i will not be able to see the calibration values. Also the testing will be done only from 1.5 meters and infinity level. They have a strict procedure to follow on the calibration and it was provided by Sigma itself. They will adhere to it.

When I told them that the issue should be fixed at all distances including 30 cm, 40 cms ,60 cms, I was questioned on why am shooting in those minimum distances :) Weird conversation when someone told that me that am not supposed to use those distances using this lens for photography when the lens is capable of taking pictures on those distances. I explained that with 35mm I wanted to get close for tight portraits but not sure if the person on the other side understood it. Apparently the technicians will not be speaking to any customers directly and hence have to go through the admin person. Hopefully in the end they agreed that they will check and will send me the test snapshots before sending the camera and lens back to me. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

The amount of money spent on calibration kits (Sigma USB dock, Spyder lenscal) and 3x shipping and insurances, I believe I could have bought myself another cheaper lens :(

Full time manual focus on Pentax K1

Thanks everyone for the assistance. This is why am proud to be a Pentax owner :)

My apologies regarding the focal length confusion. What I meant was the distance. I cannot get it to be calibrated across all distance especially at 1 to 2 meter and at infinity. Even when I thought everything was calibrated and once am out shooting the next week , I still have issues. I tend to do in camera adjustments during that time and I miss all moments :( . It spoils the mood and hence thought myself that I will not be wasting any more time in adjusting this and rather will get used to manual focussing.

I shoot hand held most of the time when I go out with my family since my Manfrotto tripod is but heavy to carry it around. Am actually planning for a Newzealand trip in month of October and thinking of getting a light weight tripod and an ultra wide lens to suit my budget. Now that I cannot trust the sigma 35mm lens , I will have to look for alternate solution without breaking my bank.

I believe CRKennedy handles all warranty and am not sure if there is option to context Sigma directly.

Regards,
Matt
