Yes it keeps winding without having to press the shutter button, strangely you can only fire the shutter on every second stroke, even with no film in the camera, buy some film, perfectly normal behaviour

If you hold it up to the eyepiece of the camera, a monocular can provide a nice magnified view of the focusing screen for more careful focus. (Note: the camera needs to be on a tripod to do this unless you are an octopus.)

For me, went right from nothing to a Pentax K1000 in 1976.
I knew absolutely nothing about cameras or lens. For a couple of weeks after I bought my K1000, I couldn't figure out why it was called a 35mm Camera. It very plainly said "50mm" on the lens.

125£ with a 40mm /2 I think I inspected it to see if I would be happy lens and body too small only interested in 40mm.

The MX meter will be on whenever the shutter button is pressed halfway. Releasing the button will turn it off. If you pull the film advance lever to the 20 degree position you can turn the meter on with the shutter button and it will stay on when you release the half press of shutter button.
Sounds like your MX is behaving exactly as it should.

It's worth noting the MX's other mode - the shutter release has an on-off/lock switch, which turns everything off absolutely.
Each has its own peculiarities. One of them (I think either the KX or the KM was the offender) had to have the film advance lever flipped out to function at all, which was not good for left-eye users (my Ricoh XR-1 has the same arrangement). The Spotmatic F and K1000 are "on" whenever the lens cap is off (so basically they need a critical amount of light to activate the meter). The remaining manual Spotmatics are "on" whenever the DOF preview/meter switch on the left side of the lens housing is engaged (I don't know what the ES series do).
The ME, being almost completely electronic, has a definite "off"/lock position, and I believe the meter is also out of circuit whenever Bulb or X-sync positions are selected. After the M series, the cameras were almost entirely electronic (except for the faster-than-X-sync speeds on the LX) and AFAIK all have definite off switches.

I have a 308s I am not sure if B is different model or functionality though?
It's a "shutter priority" device. You first set your ISO (like film days), then set your shutter speed, press the calculate button, it will give you proper aperture.
The only use of it for me is "Incident light metering" for studio or portraits. Other than that, the other half of the feature "reflective" light meter, your camera already built in one.
This device is useful if you are using medium or large format with no built in light meters. Or even old film 135 with no light meters. Other than that, you might get "some-what accurate" reading with iphone app already. There is very little need for a handheld light meter like this one because it doesn't do flash sync nor other advance features.

The L-308 Flashmate is the original model followed by minor revisions L-308B in 1994 and L-308B II in 1996. The B models have improved sensitivity and can measure down to 0EV. The B II model is exactly the same as the B model but includes the Lumidisc accessory which is used for illuminometer mode or to measure light contrast.

Kiron (Kino Precision) often used screen printed (silk screen) or embossed lettering on some of their lenses. It is very common to see this for sale with much of the lettering worn off. I wouldn't say any Kino Precision lens was cheaply made. Some of the non-Kino made Kiron badged lenses towards the end of Kiron as a brand name perhaps.
You might want to try a screen printing process however I don't know what the smallest size line or dot you can get.

The grease that some techies at work turned me on to is a very slippery silicone grease sold at electronic supply shops and plumbing shops. It's easy to get, but you have to know exactly which one to get. It looks like a clear vaseline type of stuff and it works quite well for camera lube stuff. A TINY spot goes a long way!

Another method that works well requires two things: 1. a lens that focuses exactly at infinity (50mm's are usually calibrated perfectly, test them on another body). 2. a view of a distant object (I use a church steeple a few blocks away).
With the lens and camera aimed at the distant object, your split image on the LX should show you how much adjustment you need to get the mirror perfectly aligned, either through bumper thickness, or adjustment.
If your lens is focused at infinity and your split image agrees, then you're done!

As a purely eBay purchaser, I always study the 'bundle' ads in great detail, and I have picked up several bargains which were not specifically mentioned in the heading, but were visible in the accompanying images, presumably because the vendor did not know their value or worth. In this case, it seems to be 'Vendor beware' !

My daughters table fan seized up. I cleaned it but didn't have any oil, so I used WD-40. Twice.
A day after the second application the motor burned out. That morning I had picked up some oil... :o

The MG, MV were stripped down from the ME Super. Quite honestly the quality of these cameras show they were built to a price rather than a standard. Stamped metal parts are prone to bending. The function plastic dial, can simply fall off. The MX is another story, much better.

I continued using that body (SL-35) for twenty years after. Never got a proper CLA or anything for it, just kept on using it. Thing that locked it up in the first place was a salt-water bath.

The LX was a well designed and well made camera, no question.
But I agree with those who can't quite get comfortable with the shutter dial. Those raised numbers and letters remind me too much of the Mamiya ZE-2 (which I suppose may have copied the Pentax). I never thought they looked classy on the Mamiya, and they didn't look any better on the LX.
Prefer the dial style of the MX. |

My LX is a near mint example serviced by Erik, yet I am more comfortable with my MXs for their simplicity.

Don't worry Frosty66. It isn't heresy. It doesn't bother me at all that you think the LX looks cheap. If everyone loved the LX there would be none left for me.
Besides, the MX is certainly no slouch so you are still in good company.
