Many thanks for confirming that. Once the film is in, is there anything that actually stops you keep winding until the end without pressing the shutter ?

With no film in it is there anything to stop you keep winding on over and over without realsing the shutter in between?

The one I have here I can just keep winding and I am not sure if that is normal or not and don't want to waste buying 110 film if it's not working !

Thanks for that, it doesn't look like theres much of a difference but on both of mine the ASA dial goes up to 3200 so I am presuming that mean both are late ?

The exposure compensation indicator is a lever as opposed to a pulley, the nearby pulley system OTOH controls the blue shutter speed indicator. I can't say I remember any silicon when I removed the top so you may be right, someone could have been poking around. The top on the other side is very difficult to remove is that normal if the selas are in place? Does the lug on the front hold it at all ?

So the problem is how to actually get to the bottom of that lever to see what's going on with the spring.

---------- Post added 29-05-17 at 07:09 ----------

BTW what is meant by a "late" model LX and how do I tell if I have one or an early one ? WHat are the differences?

What is Cosmicar ?

OK so it looks like I have two idential (apart from the name) non SMC lenses. I have to say though the name Cosmicar didnt initially fill me with confidence. But either way I agree taht lenses are not made as they used to be, even the A lenses are not up to the M ones, and neither are a patch on the old M42 Super Takumars build.

Pentax LX Exposure Compensation Indicator Mechanism

I see, just to be clear this is for the red indicator above the LED's in the viewfinder yes ? Basically a bit of red transparent perspex that pops out when the exposure compentation dial is on anything other than x1. It does not move in and out freely even though it is not restricted, it s movement is free enough, thats why I thought the speing must have come off or broken, theres no tension/springiness. The exposure compensation lever can puch it out with no problem when you move the disl off of x1 but theres nothing pulling it back when you take it back to x1.

I guess it's possible but tere seems to be no springiness on the indicator at all, definately feels like theres no spring connected. Which pulley do you mean the one for the blue shutter speed indicator ?

Appologies if this is the most boring post ever but.... my LX Exposure Compensation Indicator Mechanism is sluggish, I assume it's supposed to be springy to the actuator pushes it out and it speings back by itself ? At least thats what looks most likely from the mechanism I can see. I suspect it will be a broken or misplaced part B216.

I have the top casing and lens mount assembly removed but as it's buried so deep I still can't see the area where this spring should be, what's my best bet for getting to that area, I wanted to see if anyone knows first as I am a little wary about undoing the mechanism that is in the way at the top; it looks like a cord on a reel - part of the winding mechanism.

Slightly annoyed with myself that I fixed everything else and had put it all back together before I noticed this problem !

---------- Post added 27-05-17 at 11:55 ----------

I think maybe I need to remove the whole central section that holds the mirror assembly and get to it that way, does that sound reasonable ?

Yes good idea, I will compare with a working one.

There is a lever under there that looks suspicious but it's a case of what it's "supposed" to do.

LX Rewind Button

I have one LX where I push in the rewind button underneath and it stays in whilst I rewind the file, and one LX where the rewind button pops back out for each frame I rewind so I have to hold it in whilst I rewind the film.

What couses the latter problem? It's not that much of a hassle but I'd like to fix it if possible.

MX with jammed shutter Release & advance lever

I don;t mind taking it apart and investigating but before I do I just wanted to check if this is one of those common problems with a standard solution, just so I don't pull it to bits more than I need to investigating as I've taken apart an SP, ME Super and LX but not an MX yet.

The shutter release is jammed solid in the depressed position & the advance lever is also rock solid once you put it out it's 20 degrees.

Mirror is in normal position and the aperture lever is down and feels springy and normal.

Any pointers where to start ? I can't see anything obvious under the base plate but don;t want to start pulling the fron off unless I need to.

Ah right that's good ! Many thanks for confirming that, I was not quite sure as the manual was a big vague.

Is that the case for most Pentax SLR's or do they differ ?

MX Meter

Can someone please confirm how the MX exposure meter should react, the manual says that pulling out the winder lever and half depressing the shutter release button tuens on the meter.

So I take it that the winder lever needs to be out AND the shutter depressed before I see any lights, is that correct ?

But I am getting lights on when the shutter is depressed regardless of the position of the winder lever, however the lights only stay on after I let go of the shutter release if the winder leaver is out, if the winder lever is in, the lights go out as soon as I let go of the shutter release.

Is this correct or not ? How is it supposed to work ?
