I sometimes press the AF Mode button on the side of the camera to momentarily light up the focus point(s) in red.

I would love a 40mm GR, it could even have crop modes like the standard 28mm GR, except with 50mm and 70mm instead. Something I've wondered, though-- does anyone have any idea why the DA 40mm 2.8 couldn't be used on a compact GR-style camera, as opposed to a newly patented design?

I believe the OP’s aggressive reply to my post and others here is very telling.
FWIW, this video was posted to the Ricoh forum at dpreview less than an hour before he came here to create a new account so as to post the same thing. I’ll admit that this strikes me as self-serving and needlessly inflammatory and I don’t like it. :hmm:

My GRIII doesn't overheat, and it's a wonderful camera with outstanding image quality.

Hi there, and welcome to the forums Wille!
I finally picked up a GR III a couple weeks ago as an upgrade to my 2013 GR I. I read many of the same things about "overheating" and can tell you that it's not true. While I have felt a little warmth in the grip area from extended sessions, it appears to me to be purely related to the battery. And a little warmth certainly does not equal "overheating".
The GR III that I purchased was gently used with the original Ricoh battery, and I bought some Kastar generic batteries inexpensively on eBay. Honestly I haven't felt the afore-mentioned warmth with the replacement batteries as I did with the original, for what it's worth.
In general I have found the new GR III to be an outstanding upgrade, and most of the worry-wart concerns mentioned in the dpreview forums to be completely overblown. Part of me honestly wonders if they are Fujifilm shills trying to poison the well. Ironically the X100V gets plenty warm on its own. :)

Yes, you guys are right.
Basically, with the GR in max aperture Program line and Auto-ISO it is starting at the minimum shutter speed of 1/30 and f2.8, so stopping down means all bets are off and there’s “no where to go” other than a longer shutter speed.
In aperture priority mode, the minimum shutter speed is indeed retained while in Auto-ISO, and the lens can be stopped down which makes the ISO increase. Thank you both for your thoughts on this question.

Thanks, aaacb. The thing is, the ISO limit was not reached, being set at 12,800. I keep Program mode in "max aperture", so for instance, if I initially meter a scene in this mode at 1/30 - 2.8 - ISO 1600, shifting the aperture lowers the shutter speed to 1/15 etc. while keeping the same ISO of 1600.
For what it's worth, I re-installed v1.31 and the behavior is the same.

I just updated my new GRIII to v1.41 and shifting the aperture in Program mode, the shutter speed lowers past the limit of 1/30 in Auto-ISO settings.
Is this normal behavior? I would expect it to bump-up the ISO once it reached this set shutter speed limit, but the ISO is staying at the same value. I could swear the previous version (v1.31) didn't behave in this manner, but I've only had the camera a few days so I can't be sure! :)

If the focus is racking like this, you may be trying to focus on a subject which is too close to the lens. If you attempt to focus on something far away does the problem persist?

I'll chime in and say yes, I have experienced this phenomenon as well, in fact quite recently. Interestingly, the images that struck me were shot on a new-to-me Sigma DP2M which has a rather unique sensor.

Yep, the FA43 is great, can't go wrong there.
But I'll add, the DA40 is quite good on full frame and is so small it's barely there! Fast and close focusing, quick shift, super sharp, nice character and bokeh. Import with the standard lens profile in Lightroom and you might just say "what vignetting?" like I do. :)

You could do a lot worse than the Pentax SMC-A 70-210 f4, I picked one up a couple weeks ago for my Super A and it set me back a whole 12 bucks on that auction website. :)

Sorry to hear about the trouble!
I have an SF1N with the same exact issue, it even looked mint on ebay, etc. I think I got a couple flashes out of it before the same clicking-and-popping sounds started coming from the grip area, just like yours. It's a neat camera, I have a second SF1N in rougher shape that works and now I've got the "shorted" one in a spare bag somewhere. :)

A little trick I use when preparing to print is to view my image in Lightroom at 100% on my 15" MacBook Pro which has a resolution of 220 pixels per inch. If it looks good at this magnification, I can rest assured that a print at 220 DPI will have the same sharpness.
In the case of the K-1, the math is as follows: 7360x4912 at 36x24 inches gives me about 204 DPI.
So basically it'll be just a bit softer than what I see on my screen at 100% magnification. For other print sizes, I usually divide the pixel dimension by the number of inches to determine my printing DPI, so a 30 x 20 inch print is 7360 / 30 = 245 ppi. If I'm happy with my image viewed on-screen at 220 dots per inch, then my print at 245 DPI will be even sharper.
As an aside, I recently made a 20x30 inch print from a 4896 × 3264 image shot with my GR and even at 163 PPI the print turned out great. :)

The focusing on the original K-1 is not significantly worse than the MkII in my opinion, and I personally prefer the original K-1 image quality over the MkII version with the added processor.

I'm a recent MX-1 owner and I think I'm in love*, great styling and incredibly sharp pictures with a superb jpeg engine-- for a camera like this it's fun to treat it like film, and black & white jpegs turn out sublime and ready to go without any fuss. :)
As much as I found the silver version appealing, I like the black much better because the rear screen looks odd to me against the silver and the reflections in the sun won't blind you like the silver might. And about the slow write times, yes the legends are true even with a fast modern SD card, but I didn't let that stop me and I have no regrets when I see the photos that come out of this little gem.

*I shoot with a K-1 and many of the best Pentax lenses and a 2013 GR which are all fabulous, too, and I always shoot RAW with these. Just mentioning this to put my remarks in context.

Interesting, I bought an LX from eBay about 6 weeks ago in great shape. The camera arrived and I couldn't open the film back either!
it turned out that someone had used super-glue to tack-down some of the leather cover near the door opening-- it had run into the seam and glued the door shut! Obviously I sent it back for a refund, and it explained why there where *no* photos of the film compartment in the original listing, my goodness. :)

I read in connection with the GRIII that Ricoh is indeed updating the app soon, perhaps significantly, but there was no timeline given as far as I know.

Thanks, Turbotak. Yes, I reached out to a kind forum member who had the same issue a while back (unresolved) whom suggested that I return the camera. I had a DA40 with a sticky aperture which delivered the same kind of over exposures this MX-1 is making until I had that lens CLA'd. :)
