Looking for lens advise for K10

Hi all. I've had my K10 for nearly 10 years now and it is still going strong. The lens that lives on the K10 is an old manual 75-150 which I use mainly for motorcycle events - enduro, road racing e.t.c. Sometimes the 150 isn't quite long enough and I was thinking about getting a longer lens that reaches up to 200-300. Also AF would be a luxury! I kinda know what is out there after answers I got to another post. But someone has mentioned that to use some lenses I might need to upload firmware? Anyone know if this is true and what lenses would this apply to?
The pentax 55-300, the Sigma APO, these are the price bracketed lens I have been looking at.

Very interesting and informative replies, many thanks. After reading your replies I am thinking seriously about a K70 - Pentax 16-85 combination. This would certainly suit my photography.
I have prime lenses that give me 1.8 + 2.8 should I need to use them.
Decisions? ;)

Hi all. I've always been interested in photography as a hobby. A couple of photographs have just resurfaced from my mums stash of memorabilia which I took around 50 years ago! One of which won 1st prize in a school photography competition for which I won a ball! There, that's my claim to photography greatness !!

I wanted to take photography up a bit more seriously many many years after but it ended in disappointment! I had enrolled to do a photography course and had settled down in my first session when a guy comes into the classroom and has words with the lecturer. Then the lecturer states that the course has been over subscribed by ONE and one person would have to drop out of the course. That person would be the last one to have enrolled! And yes, I fell like a leaf from a tree !! Rather than wait another 12 months I enrolled on a motor vehicle craft studies course.

Now, many years after that, and thousands of photos later, I have decided to get a little more involved in what's happening in the photography world. My cameras - ricoh compact, sony nex3 compact system, and a Pentax K10. Pentax lenses - old manual 75-150, old primes 50 1.8 and 28 2.8 and of course the kit 18-55.

I just can't live without a view finder so my sony system is taking a back seat now and I am buying a K3ii which looks to be a fine camera and of course I can use my lenses with it. As I am buying just the body I am researching lenses and will be asking question of you guys in the forums.

There, that's my intro and here's looking forward to a renewed interest in taking photos.

Thanks jatrax, interesting comparison which brought me down on the side of the Sigma.
The mention of stepping down to 16 made me think though and the pentax 16-85 sprang to mind!
But would I be correct in saying that the sigma 2.8 is going to be of more use to me in low light situations compared with the 16-85 3.5-5.6?

Hi all. I am contemplating buying a new dslr. I already have a K10 which I have had for a good few years now. As well as the kit lens I have a manual 75-150 lens which I use a lot, and 50mm and 28mm manual lenses.
I don't concentrate on any particular type of photography but I do take a lot of landscape/architecture photos sometimes in low light.
As I want to buy a K3ii I would like to buy a new lens that I could mainly keep on the camera. Bearing in mind what I have said what do you guys think of the Sigma 17-50 2.8 combined with the K3ii mainly for landscape/architecture?
