No names - User modes

I've done the firmware update to v1.60 and it shows as such via the menu system.

The blurb says that one of the improvements is... Corrected --- When the mode dial is changed to [U1], [U2], [U3], [U4], or [U5], the name registered in the USER mode setting is now displayed on the rear LCD as a guide.

Mine still says U1, U2, U3 etc even tough they have been renamed and saved and the names are definitely saved.
Yes, I have switched the camera on/off. Any other ideas? Anyone else have this problem?

I had the opposire experience! Just purchased a secondhand Nikon B700 bridge camera and got home and there was a female sparrowhawk on the path with a woodpigeon. It was there for over an hour having its lunch. Had time to use new Nikon and go get and use my trusty Pentax K-S2. Once in a lifetime expereice methinks.

right. Ive been reading and thinking.
Custom image was set to BRIGHT in non-auto mode so I have now set it to NATURAL - we'll see what that does in similar circumstance.
Still raining here in East of England, UK

I have managed to download and install the latest Digital Camera Utility program and it's a great tool.
It'll keep me quiet for hours

Thanks all for your info and input.
Tis much appreciated

Thanks, tis raining now and will be until next month methinks BUT I'll go and experiment a bit more another nice evening.
I was juggling 2 cameras so think I may have had the Pentax on AUTO.
Double apologies esp as tother one was a Nikon B700 bridge camera. I find the long zoom useful at times BUT it is infuriatingly lsow compared to a proper DSLR :-(
Yes, second one was the original wihtthe green sheen. I quite like it in some ways, but tother one has more real colour!

Took some photos yesterday evening of some meadowland and the images have a green cast. Look more natural when autocorrected in the photo editing prog. Any ideas how to rersolve this please?
Is there a camera setting i need to change? Pentax KS2 with Tamron 18-250mm lens.

Guess that I might need to order some chemicals and get the darkroom re-established . . . . . this Lockdown is certainly causing a chnage in habits, lifestyles and interests.

B/W paper lifespan

OK. I am very fortunate in that I have almost reached retirement age.

I started having a clearout and discovered loads of 10"x8" B/W printing paper by Ilford, Barfen and others in a cupboard in the "spare" bedroom. They are probably about 30 years old.

What is the lifespan of such papers? I seem to have a memory of developing papers degrading over time and losing their contrast.

Yes - I know - the obvious answer is to get all the kit out and try them and, if this lockdown continues, then I may well get to that stage.....

I've also found 120 roll film for my YashicaMat 120 and 30m rolls/tins of bulk 35mm roll film.

I suspect that they will all be ending up in landfill.

just got myself a KS2 and have read the manual and downloaded and read the more detailed online manual..... BUT . . . . . . . .
I just cant find how to setup continuous shooting!!!

I can set it via the menus but it doesn't seem to work.. obviously there are lots of other settings - so i am thinking that i may have the K-S2 settings set that conflict with continuous shooting.

Any ideas please for a photographic simpleton??

What? Read the manual?

First problem was that the original owner hadn't re-set the KS2 to factory settings and so it focussed via the AEL lock rather than partially pressing the shutter button. Sorted that out by reading the printed manual which came with it - nice to still have one rather than a PDF (althought I now have both).

Second problem sorted last night - finished the process of cleaning out, painting and then installing new shelving into the old airing cupboard as the hot water immersion tank was removed when the bolier was fitted.

Now to find time to get out there and use my "new" kit when not at work and when it's not dark (as i still need to locate all of the controls!)

just got a K-S2 (2nd Hand - 9000 shutter actuations).

Decided that I DO have to read the manual as it's a potentially versatile and capable camera with so many clever options.
Now I have it set up for me, I think I'll use it awhile and get used to it as its quite a change from my old Samsung GX10.

Unfortunately our 30 year old central heating boiler has just died and cost lots of pennies to replace.
Damn nuisance as I was going to try and tell my minder (wife) that as I am not spending money on films and printing them then I should be allowed to buy some nice lenses . . . . . ah, well. Time to go out and get snapping rather than lurking here on the forum and being tempted by comments on wonderful kit that I haven't got and, probably, don't really need yet!
