Missed the moment to catch the face of the dancer walkin on his hands. and the head on the left which I could not avoid. But kept it because of the emotion.

Since the descriptions in the links are not so detailed I would like to share my experience based on descriptions and some simple geometry calculations and techniques.
first I draw a circle on cardboard with pair of compasses (if this is the right name for the tool in English) with the width of the lens diameter. I measured the distance between the two compasses to fit the half of the diameter. Then drеw a second circle from the same center with the half of the radius of the first one and divided one mm from the radius. That's because I decided to use F2 aperture and didn't want the ages of the shape to go outside the aperture but in the same time to get maximum field of light for the main object. Then I drew a straight line from the center and drew the right half of the shape. then again with the pair of compasses measured where the points of angles in the shape from the left side should be by crossing the partial circle of the distance from the center and the distance from the upper point of the straight line. then I drew by hand the curves and got almost symmetrical picture with maximum affordable size without going outside of the metric aperture size.
Then I carefully cut the shape with an utility knife painted it in black and put it on the filter thread to fix it to the lens.
the main Idea is to measure the maximum width of the shape by dividing the lens width by the aperture number and subtracting one millimeter from that width for safety. I hope this will be helpful in guiding how large the shape can be before cutting it :)

Thanks for hosting and judging this interesting challenge Don. Congrats for the wining image Andy! I would choose the same because of the Idea to put in the picture a key (in low key) and locks as a shaped bokeh. Very conceptual!

As for the shape I made for this challenge I intend to use it in a project and if it is successful I'll share it.

Fast healing UncleVanya! I myself just recovered from a two week sickness.

One new from today. The shaped bokeh is added to the main picture by using composite mode.

Thanks. I cut it out with a utility knife on plain card stock then colored it black with a marker.
When set the composite mode to bright and set the exposure to -1 on a dark background I get clear bokeh without unwanted fragments on the main picture. I used to do it this way and like results but I may try your way some day:)

Here is my try. I combined shaped bokeh with in camera composite. It is the easiest way to add bokeh where and hoe you want it, at least for me :)
Takem on manual mode with K3III and Pentax A50 F:1.7 closed to f/2.0

And the shape itself

Hello friends. Thank you for the patience with my delayed judging.
Here it is:
1. djb47 - very clean picture of lights of the candle and some backlights in the bokeh. I like the smooth transition across the light levels displayed here. The bokeh compliments the main subject being the same color as the main light. Perfect composition.
2. Vaskebjorn - Here, on my opinion, the light is displayed as an instrument to show colors. the colors are bright and vivid which for me means that the light is very well used for its purpose.
3. Andy58 - Here the light is used to give a shape, texture and dimension to the picture by using dropped shadows. Black and white is therefore a good choice for that composition. it makes it stronger.
4. noelcmn - An example for using backlight to form a silhouette. I like the gentle yelow glow of the cloudy sky.

And my picture - out of contest. I'm glad I managed to do it at all because of a very nasty sickness last two weeks which I hope is ending now.
Not much pictures this challenge but very different approach for the subject and a high level of of performance. The choice is hard to be made therefor.

And the winner this week is djb47's candle . Congrats Don!
Second place goes to Richard's tulip
And the third is shared betwееn Andy and Noel.

Wow! Thank you very much Andy. Honestly I didn't expect it because as you said the place is not a street and other photographs are really good. I couldn't find the proper excuse for going out and take pictures of strangers so I decided to do what is closer to street by shooting incognito from my balcony with my 55-300 PLM:). I don't have much practice it street photography but I red a very good learning material about it - as a part from a paid online course on portrait photography ( it was very chip in fact and but very good written on my opinion). So Tried to follow the rules and advices written there while taking pictures to get in the spirit of street photography and choose this one as more expressive one.
The words you say about the picture are probably the biggest compliment for an artist (which I feel to be). Thanks a lot again.

Greetings to all participant and I wait to see you in the next challenge. And may the Light be with you!

If I may suggest few simple tricks for better results
1. shoot on live view= this way by taking the second shot you can orientate what will be the result.
2. choose a clear and if possible dark background for the first shot . this way you can add clear picture to it by the second shot (the first picture here is made this way)
3. lower the exposurе for the second shot about 1 stop. this way the first image will look clear.
4. try to take the second image with manual focus and defocus it.

I hope to see your pictures here soon:)

Thanks for the question.
It's a function of almost all Pentax cameras as far as I know. That's why I suppose most poeple here would be familiar with it.
The short explanation is - You choose that mode than take two or more pictures and the camera merges images.

Ivan's picture is great but as he said and should be out of competition according to .7 of the rules. I personally don't mind for a single exception of the rule if others agree and if Ivan is willing to participate further at least to announce and judge the next thread.

and something from last evening

The name of the group is "Chanove". Chans - bronze cattle bells. There is a popular belief that their ringing drives away evil. The idea of the composition is that dancers look like clinking bels.

I've searched the sub-forum and didn't find a thread about this kind of pictures. And I think this technique deserves a separate thread. So here it is.
I hope you like it and share your pictures here.
