I missed focus on this shot, but still captured the wide-eyed wonder and expression of the granddaughter learning at Science City.

If something else comes up I may replace this - but I think this is the one I want to submit:

Sony a6300, 800nm IR converted, Pentax DA 35/2.4 lens on Monster LA-KE1

JPG from camera tweaked gently in DXO. RAW file was available but the JPG was already close.

Hey, I thought it was my turn to be judge this week! I had the wig ready and everything. But no worries, no judge in their right mind would choose anything but Noel's selfie as the winner. Putting oneself in the frame and entirely filling that frame ... that's really thinking outside the box! And the beard and moustache form a frame within the frame. Great job Noel!

I was concentrating on getting the AF to lock onto the central butterfly which had settled on the lavender and occasionally opened its wings. I took a whole series of shots and I was aware that another one was fluttering around but didn't realise it had drifted into shot until later.

This one is from a long long time ago, at least that is what I thought, it was 2021. I wanted to shoot a photo of an elegant perching heron and instead I got this when he/she decided to “bail” on me. Way less elegant :).

Just for the record, I too gave this challenge the old college try, but couldn't get an image to appear as shaped bokeh. First, I tried using a sharpie on an ultra-cheap protection filter to draw the shape in the center, but all I ended up doing was creating an ND filter. So then I tried cutting out a shape in some heavy photo paper I had extra sheets of (no colored construction paper was available), but I couldn't get the shape to show as bokeh. So the net result was bupkis. Maybe next week will be better.

All the images this week were cool and interesting, and even though I failed, it was still a good challenge.

Thank you. Oddly, several times during the pandemic I had similar incidents where I felt terrible for about a single day - fever, sore throat, wiped out. So far I'm not back to 100% but I am doing far better than before.

Challenging, and frustrating… but worth the time invested. Thanks for an interesting challenge. I have to say while Andy’s results were nice, your own example was beyond anything we produced collectively.

Sorry guys. I didn't expect shaped bokeh to cause so much trouble. Great effort hanging in there and giving it a go.

Andy, I like the low key fell to your image. As noted the bokeh complements the subject well. I like the fish but prefer the first to the second.

Yaki, Great artistic ability and cutting skill. Cool looking shape, like the colors but prefer the bokeh around the subject.

Brad, hope you and your dad recover quickly and completely.

Noel, thanks for sticking in there. Interesting attempts. Looks like the aperture needs to be smaller and perhaps the shape. Amazing how little an opening is needed for this.

Andy gets the nod this week.

Thank you all for your participation. Hopefully you'll find this week's Project easier.

It’s still better than what I’m getting! lol. And now I’m running a fever and laying in bed at 6:45pm. I’ll have to get up to help my dad later.

Well done Andy. The bokeh compliments the key nicely.

---------- Post added 04-14-24 at 07:57 AM ----------

Thanks an impressive shape Yaki. Did you cut that out or use a punch?

Most often I place the lights behind my subject to get the bokeh and erase or clone the bokeh to get the look I want. I typically do not layer the bokeh over my subject.

---------- Post added 04-14-24 at 08:03 AM ----------

Your plate looks kind of 'fat' Brad. The plate should be as close as possible to the lens, typically sitting right on the rim if possible.
When it's too far away, and that varies from lens to lens in my experience, you can get the effect we see in your second photo.

I get my best results with my M50 and the Helios 44M-6.

Other than the many medical appointments I go to, I don't get out of the house to go anywhere very often, but I will see what multi-exposure photos I can get in my yard, (I live on a lake), and possible my neighborhood too.
