I chose the Zeiss ZK Distagon 35mm f/2 and the Irix 150mm f/2.8 macro over Pentax OEM choices, and not exactly for cost. It’s nice to have choices and of course it hurts when other brands abandon the mount.

Great pictures!
Depth of field is proportional with distance to subject and f-stop, inversely proportional with focal length. The change in sensor size in and of itself won't noticeably affect it.
IF you're shooting the same focal length on full frame AND you want the same composition, then you'll have to move in closer to your subject. Distance to subject will decrease, and along with that depth of field decreases. SO you'll need to stop down if you want to have the same depth of field as you would have with the same composition on ASP-C (though notice that perspective has changed, so it won't be the *same* picture).
Another situation is that you're shooting from the same distance from subject in either case, but on FF you have say 85mm and on ASP-C you have 50mm. Now your focal length has increased on FF compared to what it is is on ASP-C. Depth of field is inversely proportional to focal length, so you'll need to again stop down on FF if you want to get back to where you were. (One stop gets you pretty close.)
I always find this website extremely helpful when working through my understanding of issues pertaining to depth of field: depth-of-field - Digital Photography
While this is good for actually calculating it: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/dof-calculator.htm
This doesn't answer all your questions, and I'm sure people with a lot more experience than me will chime in too, but hopefully it helps!

Very pleased to be posting here for the first time... I found a great deal on the 77 through Adorama on Amazon for $550, a demo-grade used copy. It arrived without the pouch but with box and paperwork, and in immaculate condition. Here's a pic from my first walk around, a carved pole in the Papua New Guinea garden on campus. |

EVF's don't "reflect" anything... OVF's and mirrors on the other hand... Pentax was my first DSLR (and I don't plan to jump ship anytime soon) after a ton of research and one huge selling point for me was the pentaprism... would not have gone in for EVF or even a hybrid, no matter the "progress"..

I agree with the above ---- really like the framing within the bridge, but I find contrast too high. For me it's not so much the sky as the tree in the center-right and the canal's water.
Is the heavy PP a result of lifting the shadows to bring out the framing bridge? If so perhaps a selective mask would be of help? –-- because that part looks spot on to me.

Here?s How To Tell If You Damaged Your Eyes From Staring At The Sun
This is one of the better articles I came across on the internet, but I'm no doctor. My understanding is that it is possible, but unlikely to have resulted in any permanent damage in particular. I'd be vigilant and consider seeking professional advice if it persists.

It feels like an eternity since I've gotten a decent bird shot. Here are two I finally got around to processing from last April, taken with the HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR:

A picture from Venice this past summer. I've still got a ways to go until I'm competent (especially consistently so) with this lens... any criticism much appreciated! |

Hi all,
I'd appreciate criticism on all aspects of this picture, especially with respect to black and white conversion---this is my first attempt at that.
I have a subscription to lightroom and photoshop, though I'm a newcomer to both (prior to the subscription I used RawTherapee to develop my raw files). For this image I've only made use of lightroom, and I haven't really investigated photoshop's capabilities at all. b/w pizza dough
Here is the out of camera .jpg for reference: ooc pizza dough
Cheers and thanks in advance!

Hi all,
I'm pretty new here but I've been enjoying all your pictures and I thought I'd join in the fun! It's been a couple months now that I've been taking pictures of the birds where I live with a HD 55-300 WR, f/4-5.8. These are my first two shots of a bird in flight that I'm happy with––a great blue heron that's been frequenting a seasonal lake close by. |

Hi everyone!
First of all, thanks to everyone involved in this site and forums –– I've already learnt a great deal from snooping around here the past few weeks, not to mention the photos. I'm new to DSLR photography, and I couldn't be happier to have ended up with Pentax this Christmas. I'm from Newfoundland, Canada though currently studying in California.
Included below is my favorite picture after a month of shooting –– a western bluebird. Hope to post more in the near future elsewhere in the forums! western bluebird by Steven Woodworth, on Flickr
