Thanks for your help. Lens was purchased through Map Camera and is in great shape, actually better than advertised. I used it without any adjustments at an indoor track meet on Saturday, and I feel it does need some adjustment at 200. I'll be putting it through the ringer at another indoor meet on Friday. On the plus side, the photos that were keepers met my expectations so I'm happy overall. I typically shoot indoor track with the 16-50 PLM and wait for the action to come to me, the extra reach with the 70-200 was nice.

I purchased a used Pentax D FA* 70-200mm F2.8 ED DC AW lens which I plan to use for action photography. It should be arriving sometime today which means I can use it tomorrow morning at an indoor track meet. Question for people with this combination. Have you had to do any fine adjustments to the focusing or has it been mostly attach and go? Any other tips appreciated.

Thanks for all the help, I was able to get the lens off finally. I was about to give up but decided to try one last thing. I ended up twisting the lens firmly while also pulling it away from the camera. Probably not recommended but it worked. The camera is unscathed and I've removed the pin from the lens and tried it on my older K-R. The lens worked well, I'll play with it on my newer cameras later.

Thanks for the tips, is there a certain direction that I should come at the pin with the feeler gauge? I've been trying for a while now and I'm going to take a break otherwise I'm afraid I'll resort to a hammer.
The lens is a 28mm Star-D Gold Line Macro lens that was on a Ricoh KR-10 Super that I found at a thrift shop for $13. The lens was in great shape so thought I'd try it out on my K-70 (glad I didn't stick it on my K3 III).

Well, I did it. I mounted an old Ricoh lens on my K-70 and now it's stuck. I didn't know about the pin until after I had done it. I've since read plenty on how to remove the pin from the lens, but I'm looking for guidance on how to remove the lens from the camera without having to break it apart. I purchased a feeler gauge as that seems to be what most people recommend. I can slide the gauge between the lens and mount but then what? There isn't much room to move the gauge other than back and forth (I did read where someone did this and "sawed" the pin off). I also have the camera in AF mode, since I saw that recommended as well.
Has anyone had to do this? If so, what tips can you share? I'd like to get the lens off and then remove the pin so I can use it.
Thanks for the help.

I keep my 55-300 PLM on my K3-III 90% of the time. I mostly shoot day-time cross-country and track events in all sorts of conditions. I noticed that it looks like a very fine filament (thread?) seems to have made its way just behind the front glass. It's offset enough that it doesn't seem to cause any issues but of course, knowing it's there drives me crazy. Is there a way to easily take the front glass off so that I can clean behind it? If not, what other options are there?
Thanks for the help.

I'd be using it with the K3-III. I don't think the f/2.8 would be much of a limiting factor. The main goal is obviously to deal with the light issues, but also to improve my "in-focus" success rate. I had a much better hit rate when I switched to the 55-300 PLM for outside sports photography.

I do a lot of track and cross country photography and typically use my 55-300 PLM outside with great results. Indoor track is definitely more tricky with the lousy lighting in most situations. I end up using a 50mm f/1.8 prime many times, especially since I usually have access to the track and am not stuck in the stands. I was thinking that the new DA* 16-50 PLM might be a good investment for this sort of thing. Does anyone have experience with this lens for indoor action shots and if so what are your thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

I shoot a lot of sports for the local high school teams as well as a state-wide cross country and track site. Tomorrow I'll be shooting six cross country races in bad weather. Basically, it'll be raining all day, heavy at times. In the past, this hasn't bothered me with the K3-III or my K-70 with the 55-300 PLM attached when shooting 1 or 2 races. Tomorrow however I will be in the rain for at least 5 hours. I know I should be fine but wondering if others have or would take additional precautions with the camera.
Thanks for the insight.

Excellent photos. I do the same, Track as well as XC. Started way back with my K-r, then my K-70, now my K-3 iii. I have the 55-300 PLM and focusing has been awesome. My settings are similar to yours, mostly shooting in TAv and letting the iso float. I shot a state championship meet last weekend, 3600 photos. I shot JPGs and was able to do it on 1 battery, although I had a second with me ready to go. I'm really looking forward to XC season this year, I expect some great shots out on the trails.

Grabbed my camera and went out to play with my dog. She's a rescue with some funky back legs but you wouldn't be able to tell when she runs. Photos are untouched.

Turned on my camera today and the LCD is blank, no information is showing. I can review pictures, get into the menu, switch to live view and video just fine so the LCD is not dead by any means. But when I switch to take a photo there's nothing displaying. The battery has plenty of juice, I've taken pictures and reviewed them, I've checked the menu settings, I'm just not sure what I'm missing. Any thoughts? ---------- Post added 05-12-21 at 01:31 PM ---------- Found the solution in another thread for the K-1. Once I pressed the Info button twice the monitor lit up with the info I wanted.

I took my K3 Mark III out for a track event with my 55-300 PLM attached. I've attached the untouched photos. I was very happy with the focusing and the hit rate was much better than my K-70. I probably could have done with lower ISO I assumed it would use a range but it seemed to stick to the top end of what I set, I'll need to figure that one out. Next time out I'll set WB to Auto and Exposure to multi-segment. I had received the camera only two days before so not a lot of practice time. Here's the camera setup:
JPEG
Shutter priority 1/1000
center-weight exposure
AF-C Expanded AF(S)
Continuous Shooting (M)
WB-Cloudy

K-70 with 55-300 PLM. Conditions were wet so I was very happy for the weather-sealing.

Just found this thread, not sure what took me so long. I typically shoot HS Cross Country and Track. This with my K-70 and HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm PLM.
Comments appreciated - thanks!
