SquareTrade Experience?

i've had several positive experiences with squaretrade. they fixed my ipod, which i sent on a monday and received back a week later. they refunded me for a blender that died, and their repair people figured out that the "scratch" on the sensor of my used panasonic G3 from B&H was only hardened gunk and cleaned it and sent it back within two weeks from my dropoff to receiving. i had tried wet cleaning myself but it didn't move, and samy's repair guy said it was a scratch, so i was happy to discover that all it needed was a professional cleaning. btw, i'm in the u.s., so shipping didn't take that long.

TCSTV Review of the KP

barely lukewarm.

i like the TCVS reviews, but they don't always mirror my experience with a particular camera. i figure i'm going to rent the KP and the PLM lens next month and i expect to have fun with it. i can't rent the K-70, which i really wanted to do, but i did rent the K-S2 which was pretty nice.

size comparison between the KS2 and the K70 - you can switch to view from the top and back - specs are listed below the camera shots.

IBIS question

most of my cameras have been panasonics, sony e mount cameras and canons, so the stabilization is in the lens, not the camera. i did have an olympus epm2 for a bit, and the stabilization, while not amazing, was pretty handy, but i used it for smaller and closer subjects. i rented a KS2, and through the viewfinder, things seemed pretty wobbly at 200mm on a sigma 55-200mm lens, but things got a lot less shaky when i engaged the lens stabilization. but it's possible the KS2 doesn't have great stabilization or i didn't set something in the menu.

so to my question. when shooting say birds in flight or other distant objects using a camera with IBIS - say the K70 - is the view in the viewfinder stabilized or not stabilized?

thanks!

What do they mean when they say Shake Reduction adds4 stops of performance?

one can hope.

i have shaky hands but was able to shoot keepers on my a6000 at 1/10 probably 95% or better of the time. without stabilization, i'm lucky to get half the shots at 1/40th, so stabilization can make a huge difference.

i prefer manuals on my computer as they're highly searchable, and you can always bring one along on your phone or print the pages you need.

no surprise about canon everywhere since canon au is the production company.

i'm thinking likely - will rent one in a month or two and see how it feels. the only high ISO pics i've seen looked REALLY great (thanks, pihe !), and if ricoh really did improve autofocus and stabilization as claimed, that would be a big win for me. love the pentax OVFs, and another big plus it has 2 dials. i would have rather had a fully articulated screen, but i can live with a tilting screen - i had one for a couple years on my a6000.

i'm 5' 3" with small hands, and for me the problem with the grip is it's fat at the end and naturally directs my finger away from the shutter button. my husband's K20D and the canon T6s have grips that taper toward the end, and they are much more comfortable. oddly i didn't feel like the K-S2 was going to fall but the way i'm gripping it seems to be affecting my shooting stability.

how are you liking your K-S2 so far and what lens/lenses are you using with it?

i've been having lots of fun playing with the camera, going through all the settings and modes and playing around in manual, and i like the large viewfinder. my husband hates the green light around the shutter button *LOL* but he's a street photographer, so he likes every camera to be very unobtrusive.

thanks - the only time i use auto is to test it when i try a new camera. i've never found that auto gets me the best shutter speed, aperture and ISO for my preferences.

i've been up for almost 24 hours, so my mind is a blur, and the menu says RAW+DNG instead of RAW+JPG. now i see that it will say RAW+ and the raw format rather than RAW+JPG like other cameras i've used.

SR is on. i went through the entire menu with the manual, which i don't usually do, but pentax is so different than the canons, panasonics and other cameras i've used, i thought it would be best to get to know it via the manual since i only have it for a few days. and yes, the softness could be the larger image or the lens, but i'm also trying to find a good way to hold the camera. the grip is not a good fit for me combined with the location of the shutter button, but it's such a cool camera that i'll keep experimenting.

btw, you're both quite correct. the PDF version of the manual broke off halfway through the pinch thing, and since i wasn't reading about the app, i didn't notice the part above it.

thanks again for your replies!
