RT can not merge the three frames of Pentax HDR files. But you can use HDRMerge to create a merged DNG file, which you can open with RT.

Sure, provide a pixelshift raw and a flat field raw. Then I will have a look ;-)

Pixel shift motion processing technique

As I got pinged in this thread, let me comment

1) the main motion detection in RT is by comparing green pixels.
2) If there are not many greens in the raw, also comparing blue/red pixels can be used (though not as exactly as with green pixels)
3) for the regions with motion you can use every (not just the first) frame
4) for the regions with motion, using the median is intended for stuff like moving water, not for foliage.

For CA correction the raw CA correction in RT works really well. I use it always and never use the Lensfun CA correction. The raw CA correction in RT also is specialized to work with Pixelshift files (giving the same auto correction for all frames, which is important)

Finally: I'm glad, some folks are using RT for pixelshift :+1: It was a lot of work coding it.

Here's a crop of an almost perfect (no motion) PS file I found in the web. One side is Amaze demosaic, the other side pixel shift with motion correction off. Both are sharpened using the same parameters. I can clearly see a difference.

Unfortunately I don't have a manual. The main reason for that is, that I don't own a PixelShift camera and used pixelshift raw files I found on the web to develop.
If someone can provide some pixelshift raw files which I'm allowed to use for a manual or guide, that would be great and I could start working on that.

To all of the users which use RawTherapee for pixelshift:

Please don't hesitate to ask me for information. I wrote the code but I'm also lousy concerning documentation: I don't even own a camera with this feature (though I would like to if it would have Nikon F-mount ;-) because I own some F-Mount lenses).

Anyway, I would really appreciate getting user experience in using RawTherapee pixelshift processing and I will also share my knowledge as the one who implemented it.

Let's work together to get this documented and maybe also to get ideas to improve it.

It's also worth a try to disable "Check red/blue channels for motion". Often you need it enabled (that's why it's enabled by default), but sometimes you can disable it.

That's the sidecar with the processing settings. It's stored in the same folder as your dng file.

Put to queue, start the queue, when queue is processed, look into the folder you selected in queue. In my example the dng is in C:\foo and the tiff should be in C:\foo\converted when the queue processing finished.

You may try a nightly build. There have been fixes for freezes since 5.4.

RawTherapee's pixelshift mode does not support K-1 II handheld pixelshift mode. I just treats this files as normal pixelshift files, which will lead to bad results most likely. I tend to disable the RT pixelshift mode for files shot in K-1 II handheld pixelshift mode in RT 5.5 to avoid confusion.

Current development version of RawTherapee has some new tools which address the noise in flat areas.

For reference

Maybe the workflow described here (basically saving the motion mask from RawTherapee and use it to mask the motion in Photoshop) could be interesting for you.

In RT you have access to all 4 frames of dynamic pixel shift files. You can even combine them, but the combination is wrong because the shift is not constant.

In current release of RT (5.4) you can already select AMaZE or LMMSE demosaic for regions with motion (LMMSE is for high ISO shots). In new version (5.5 and current development version) you can also select the combined AMaZE+VNG4 for regions with motion. Default for regions with motion will still be AMaZE, because the combined AMaZE+VNG4 is slower.
