I am NOT sponsored by Fujifilm. I own 4 x Fujifilm X-T3's, which I use often, 2 x GFX50s's, which I use for the appropriate shoots an X-T20 and X-H1 for many of our videos. I also own 4 x Nikon D800/810's. Totally job dependent. I am shooting a major catalogue this week and will use my X-T3's. :-)

That's because you are shooting relatively close up to a small subject. It becomes a lot more apparent when shooting full shots of people. I own a 2.8 300mm lens and the bokeh differences are quite evident.

Like Boo George, he uses a classic 4 x 5 " or Medium Format type accordion bellow to get this vignetting effect. How he attaches it to the lenses used can be achieved in many ways.

Tony Northrup - K-1 Review

Again, as I wrote in response to the Tony Northrup review, as a past pro Pentax user of the K10 up to the K3 the two glaring flaws in my opinion and based only on my professional needs has always been the AF and the limited amount of fast AF prime lenses. The very small concentration of AF points in the centre of the viewfinder doesn't help matters either when wanting to focus on the models eye which must either be forced into the centre of the frame, reducing usable pixels in the final published works or reframing which is slow cumbersome and not accurate especially when using a fast lens.

What I suggest Pentax do is what Nikon has done with their D800/810 and allow for a 5:4 crop option which replicates 90% of most magazine formats and bringing the upper focus points closer to the eyes of the model although not perfect still close enough. However, having a few more focus points in the upper quadrant would be ideal. If Nikon in their 5:4 crop mode, could just give us one more row of vertical focus points, it would be perfect beyond words. But as is, I can generally get close enough to the crucial focus point desired.

My only gripe is the concentration of all of the focussing points near the centre. That is the reason I got rid of my Nikon 610 as well. When you shoot fashion and have to do so quickly especially on location, you want the upper focus points to be able to come as closely as possible to the eye, without having to focus and re-frame. Especially if shooting wide open where focus accuracy is vital. When moving the camera to reframe you loose that accuracy, thus why I think Tony made that observation. Of course if you are using a plus 200 mm to 400mm lens if you are on the same plane as the model, you do have a good chance of focussing accurately.

Pentax K-1 Officially Announced

Do you know what I think Kenspo? Ever since the hay days of the Pentax 67 and their subsequent decline, they have had this self loathing non worthy self esteem issue, thus their incapacity to see when they are looking at a gift horse in the mouth...But hey, that is one of the reasons we parted our ways as well. It's not that they don't want to succeed, they just lost their way and never really knew how to find their way back. Not that I didn't try of course. Hell, I even put together a whole Marketing Plan for them that may have laid down the groundwork for a totally different public perception of their product. So Kenspo, I suggest you get on with your life and career and just take care of what really matters, the image, the gig and the notoriety associated with success. What it comes down to really is, does the instrument work the way it should and does it give you the tools to make it happen.

Have a nice weekend...

Zorro

Sorry, but who is Sandy Ramirez? Just wondering which Fashion Mags he has been published in as I never heard of him before. But any endorsement by a professional is good for the brand.

Can't wait to see how he fares with it.

I am so sorry...but I am not really back with Pentax. I never completely left. We still use the Pentax K3 for most of our video's :)

---------- Post added 02-21-16 at 01:06 PM ----------

As I am using Nikon for my still captures, it would be up to Pentax to send me their gear to convince me that what they have on offer can compete with what I have come comfortably accustomed to. We do however still use the K3 for most of our videos. In fact we won a Silver Medal for Best Video of the Year using Pentax.

There is nothing sweeter (and I am NOT exaggerating) than walking into a Nikon Professional Services Centre in Downtown Paris, give them my Nikon D800 bodies and say, "Hi guys, I just bought this new Nikon 180mm lens, would you please calibrate it on the bodies for me, as I have a shoot in three days and to my surprise, have them send me an e-mail the next day saying "you can come and get your material, the job has been done". That is what I NEED!
Pentax couldn't do that for me. I would have to mail my lenses and bodies to them and wait upwards of 3 weeks to get my material back. That just will not do. If they want Professionals to convert, they need to be where they are and understand the urgency of the moment. I had this discussion with James Malcolm at Pentax USA and he understands the issue quite well. Until then, I am a NIKON user for my still captures.

Will keep it short and Sweet. Now that Pentax has the K1, there is no reason that the professionals out there won't come onboard...

However, that will NOT happen until Ricoh-Pentax build their professional service network that can compete with that of Nikon and Canon.

That and the problematic AF issues, was the major reason I had to let go of Pentax as my Professional Photo Capture tool. However, I still use the K3 for most of our videos.

Pentax sent me a K3 and 3 lenses last year. The 55, 50-135 and 200mm. I bought a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 for it as well. So yes I own the K3. We use it for all of our videos. Video Director and Videographer is Frederique Renaut.:

Yes, that has been the major Achilles heel of Pentax and their not up to Nikon & Canon Auto Focus issues. The major reason I left Pentax. I hope those issues are addressed as well as their less than focussed marketing approach.
