Hello Adam, yes that was me, and on a fairly accurate balance the 105mm K 2.8 measured 304 grams.
I discovered another possible adjustment: The SMC PENTAX-A 50mm f/2.8 macro is possibly 50mm long, the 40mm as the description on its page says cannot be true.

Dear PF members, does anyone know if the clamp in its "ON" position switches off AutoFocus? I know from forum research that in the DFA, the OFF position does, and makes catch-in-focus (CIF) possible. Does this work the same way in this FA-50mm macro, I aim at: is CIF possible with this lens (other than the lens unlock knob trick)?

Many, many thanks for the overwhelming amount of very informative reactions. This is quite hopeful for me, I am very curious to implement your suggestions as far as money and time permits. Great boost for the hobby, this. I am very pleased by the completeness of your well balanced answers, I guess no niche has been forgotten, all aspects show up. And yes, Dan, thanks for the picture, it has a mysterious upper part indeed. Hieronymus Bosch, I also see Douanier Rousseau. Many thanks, I have enough material to investigate next months....

Hi,
Just joined the forum. My whole life (nearly 62 now) Pentax lover, started in 1976 with a K1000 film DSLR and 2.0/55, soon added a 2.8/24. Great combination, and as everyone you remember your first love best. The sheer joy of a simple yet very good camera with star optics, ans a simple but large viewfinder. Later I bought a KX, and a K2. A 6x7 followed, what a piece of mechanics, and what a photographic joy. That is, if I forget the backpain of getting all the 6x7 equipment along in hikes through Scotland etc.
Not a follower of fashion, nor an early adaptor, I bought a used istDS some 7 years ago; had to struggle with image quality. Getting used to it now, and again pleasure enough with the 21DA. (Also 14DA, 40DA, 50/1.8, and FA's (28/2.8, 35/2).
I am now getting to the point how I can improve image quality further: switch to FF? or a more advanced APS-C, K5 or K3. I posted a question, if 6MP to 24 MP is a BIG difference, or only marginal.
I hope I can contribute to this huge forum, great community.

Hello,
New on this forum, this is my first question; as an film DSLR and 6x7 shooter I took an istDS2 10 years ago next to the film camera's. (62 years old now, my whole life Pentax lover. Started with a K1000 and a 2.8/24mm). Today I kind of love the istDS with the 21 DA. Viewfinder ok, crisp images, compact, nice angle of view. I had to find out that the *jpgs from the camera spoiled the quality of the istDS2, and changed to *RAW, and process the images in Pentax Photo Laboratory 3.61.
The images (3.2/21DA, 2.8/40DA, 1.8/50, 2.8/14DA) however are not as sharp as the 100% crops I see from lens tests (e.g. Photozone.de, on 10MP and 16MP camera's).
Could anyone elaborate on this subject. I am curious to know if a change to 24MP (e.g. K3) will reveil the full potential of my lenses, or is it the software (Pentax Photo Lab 3.61), or both? What improvement can I expect in a change from 6MP to 24MP? Marginal? Huge? I have no experience in this.
