Old Buttermilk Sky was written by Hoagy Carmichael, whose 2nd wife Wanda McKay is our future neighbor in the Columbarium of Courage at Forest Lawn Glendale.
Thank you for putting up this collection. My wife and I are fascinated by cemeteries as well, and although we live in Seattle and are originally from Minnesota, we chose Forest Lawn for ourselves, where we feel we will reside with kindred spirits -- not just the famous stars, but the creative, often nameless individuals whose have, for more than a century, brought their immense talents to the "City of Stars" to take part in creating the greatest art form ever known -- American cinema.
My wife's family came to this country mostly before 1650, and she is related to countless famous people. (She herself was raised on a very humble farm.) Our vacations in recent years have involved endless hours finding and photographing ancestral graves in colonial period New England cemeteries. It is endlessly fascinating.
I've won numerous photography awards in my time, although I seldom enter shows and contests. I've been the official photographer of a Pacific Northwest Indian tribe since the dawn of the digital era, documenting their living history as it passes, so the fact that Edward Sheriff Curtis is buried at Forest Lawn is another plus.
