This shot harks back to the 1990s. My wife and I made a pilgrimage to Ansel Adams country and were blessed with one great morning of light and clouds peeling off the granite. Shot on Ilford HP5 film

It all seems so simple when you watch a tutorial in the comfort and warmth of your home. In the great outdoors, when you are tired, cold and reliant on a red head torch it's so very different!
I must use Astrotracer more, but also intend to get a star tracker too.
This is the only Astrotracer shot I really like, it was at 120 seconds and in a rush of blood I did a vertical pano, 4 or 5 images I think. I wish I'd remembered to do an shot to focus stack the foreground (which is a bit of a giveaway that this is the Astrotracer!)
Thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated :)

Yes, for the reasons you describe, Astrotracer works better at 24mm and above. I only discovered that after buying the 15-30 D-FA  Still, you live and learn!
I did some test shots on my newly acquired 77mm FA and the limiting factor is light pollution where I am. Get some dark skies and you'll be in business with your 135mm.
There's a great online field of view calculator that will illustrate how targets will look with most lens-camera combinations - have a look at FOV Calculator - 12DString :)

The light was flat on this Saturday afternoon. I watched this skater, impressing his gal. Then after a while he took off his shirt, the sun came through the clouds and some rather nice light picked up his toned body and cast a nice shadow. It is a composite with some street art (also shot that afternoon on the K-1 with a 24-70 D-FA) providing a more fitting backdrop

Thanks for that Peter. If you watch the video I linked, you get an idea of how big these filters are, i.e. they are rather unwieldy. The thought of handling those on a windy beach, or mountaintop
I suppose if I go ahead and get a 15-30, I shall probably end up with at least a ND grad at some point, maybe going filterless whilst using for astro for a bit... Would love a prime though. :)

I suppose so... but goodness, the expense of replicating my 100mm system that I can use for all my other lenses with a 150mm just for this lens. That puts me right off
I feel conflicted... and Black Friday is coming closer ---------- Post added 10-11-18 at 02:23 PM ---------- Thanks for the links, just watched this from the fab Joe Cornish The LEE SW150 Mark II Filter System especially designed for a range of popular ultra-wideangle lenses.
I'd better blooming well start to sell some pictures if I'm going to afford these babies :D

I'd made a Friday night dash, driving for almost 4 hours to arrive just as the sun was going down. The light at Rhosilli Wales was lovely and made it all worth it

Taken at the recent 'We Are Balsall Heath' street festival. Balsall Heath is an area of great contrasts and the festival saw a road closure for the first time in over 100 years.
The assembled throng just came together as I was looking for interesting individual subjects. The backdrop is the famous Moseley Road Baths, one of the few remaining working Edwardian Baths, dating from 1907, recognised by the World Heritage Fund and a Grade II* listed building

I do love my 24-70 D FA, but I must confess I had lost the plot with respect to WR vs. AW and took this one (WR) plus my 70-200 D FA* AW out into the Skye rain last March. Result - had to put my 24-70 in a bag with dried rice to dry it out... Pentax: when you make a landscape lens, make it AW... every time

Bought a Samyung 16mm f/2 lens... I already have a Tamron 10-24 for my K3ii, so I couldn't't really justify keeping it, given that the FoV is similar to my 24-70 D FA on my K-1, so it had to go back. Saving up for the Pentax 15-30 D FA

I try and keep a decent camera on my person at all times, just in case!
I was cycling the canal towpath on a cold November morning. The light was breaking through the clouds and doing some lovely things with the smoke from the canal boat chimney.
I took several shots before I really had to move on (or risk being late for work). This shows the light-play on the smoke to best effect.
[edit: shutter speed was in fact 1/100, not an option in drop-down]

...it only took me 28 years to join other Pentax fans!
When I bought my 1st SLR it was happenstance that I chose a SF7. That led to to much fun with a home darkroom & local camera club print competitions in the early 90s. I bought a ME Super as backup, HP5 in one, Velvia/Superia in the other.
I then moved into the digital era with a K-200 in ~2007, then a K-5 ~2011 and even had a play with Astrotracer. More recently social media (especially Instagram) has helped me rekindle a desire to make pictures that give me pleasure & much fun and I bought a K-3II early last year, only to discover that the K-1 was about to launch! Well, I still love my K-3II, but succumbed and bought the K-1 in November. It was a joy to discover that my old film era lenses give me full-frame. I do wish there were more affordable lenses for the K-1, but we pentax folk are known for our patience!
I feel lucky living in Birmingham that there are lots of active groups for togs (I'd be happy to recommend). This has extended my range into studio photography, which has helped me learn loads. A question I have relates to studios - which flash triggers should I get to work reliably with the K-1 and K3-II? it's rather hit and miss when I attend studio sessions at the moment, OK for Nikon/Canon, but not always for Pentax :(
I look forward to being an active member here, cheers!
Pete
