What is the maximum ISO you typically use on your K-70?

The subject matter makes a difference too. The attached shows a hog @6400 (on a K3, not a K70, different processing engine) and the noise (such as it is) is only apparent on the OOF areas in the background. The textures on the main subject render any noise barely noticeable.

For those pro pictures with out of focus backgrounds and/or foregrounds, you really need an 85mm f/1.4. The Rokinon/Samyang is spectacular value for money but you have focus yourself.

Sigma made an autofocus 85mm f/1.4 but it has been discontinued. They are available on the used market but not cheap. Then there is the Pentax F85, long out of production and highly sought after.

For the ne plus ultra in K mount 85mm lenses, you will want the manual focus A* - the stuff of legend.

You might be able to rent one in K mount. Or just rent one in Canon EF mount. And practice with it before the big day. Big glass needs care and respect to get good results. ;)

FA *85 or FA 77 Limited?

I have both (and it's going to stay that way!), but if I had to let one go it would be the FA*85

It's much bigger and heavier, and the hood is huge and clunky. Sure, it's half a stop faster, and maybe has a bit more magic, but there's not much in it. I don't make a living out of this game, so the extra 5% is not a deal breaker.

When it comes to packing for a day's photography, the FA77 finds its way into the bag every time.

The K10D Club!

The K10D was the camera that finally convinced me to retire my film cameras and go digital. Though it's ancient in technology terms, I still find it a very satisfying camera. I don't really mind that it's at its best at lower ISOs. In film, I used to shoot Velvia 50 and Kodachrome 25, so I just look at my K10D as the digital equivalent of shooting those types of film and just accept the limitations that go along with that. I like that its size and weight are a good match for my larger zooms. It just feels right.

Hi All,

Been browsing the forums for a few months and bit the bullet on a used k3-ii from Japan a few weeks ago. I am bilingual English/Japanese, so if anyone ever needs some light Japanese translation help for camera stuff lemme know and I would be happy to lend a hand!

Cheers,

Kevin

G'day Kevin,

Welcome to the forums mate. Plenty of things to see and do around here, and no doubt the odd translation from Japanese websites & rumours will come in handy. :)
