Junk of the overpriced kind, a.k.a. antiques. The label with R250 on it is the price in ZAR, about USD13 at the current exchange rate. To put it in perspective, around here that is the price of a steak dinner at a posh place. |

I have the DA 35/2.4. It is all plastic and there is no aperture ring but it works well. I like it. |

The coating on that lens is in bad shape anyway - a fingerprint won't make it (much) worse, I suppose.
Incidentally, I once had the opportunity to use the Heinz Kilfitt 400mm f/4 (as shown in the video) for motor racing photography. Handling with the little wheel for focusing was not great. The size and weight was another thing, but a tripod and pre-focusing saved the day. The results were excellent and I was inspired to get a 400mm lens of my own in the form of the SMC Pentax A 400 f/5.6. Owning a Heinz Kilfitt is still on my bucket list, but prices and issues with longevity of coatings are holding me back.

Good to know that those things are called "photo cameras." I can only wonder about what other kinds of cameras there are...

How about the SMC Pentax-DA 35mm f/2.4 AL? Not that fast but quite quite nifty, and affordable too.
If you can live with manual focus, the SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2 will turn even the most ordinary scene into something special. ---------- Post added 2024-01-27 at 22:49 ---------- I have recently added a Sigma 28mm f/1.8 Asherical to my collection. I haven't used it much yet, but it looks promising. ---------- Post added 2024-01-27 at 22:54 ---------- Perhaps a little long, but the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 can really deliver the goods. |

The piece seems to have been written to attract clicks and please advertisers. There is very little information that is new - to me at least.

The 600/5.6 was aimed at the pro market and should give better IQ than the 500/5.6 which was more advanced amateur than pro kit. To get a noticeable difference in reach the 1000/8 is what you want.
I have owned a 400/5.6 and A 1.4x L tele-converter since the eighties. It has given me good results on film SLR and crop frame DSLR. To tide you over until you make up your mind and locate a suitable 600 or 1000 (which are fairly rare) I recommend getting the converter.

Strelitzia (a.k.a. bird of paradise) flower with a side of bokeh. Sorry, but there are very few tulips in Africa. Lots of strelitzias, though. ;)

While perusing the classifieds to feed my Gear Acquisition Syndrome, this sweet looking sailboat came back in the results. https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-yachts-sailboats/port-elizabeth/yacht-j27-keelbo...51013203707709
According to the seller, it comes equipped with an "older pentax genoa #1" sail.
I then pointed my browser to the big search engine in the cloud to verify that there is such a thing.Sure enough, this came back: Quote: Currently, there are eight different fibers used in sailmaking: carbon fiber, Spectra/Dyneema, Twaron, Technora, Kevlar, Vectran, polyester, and Pentax (which is basically “Dacron on steroids”). Only three of these—Dacron, Vectran, and Spectra—can be readily woven into a viable sail fabric. The remaining fibers are incorporated into a fabric in two basic ways; more on this in a moment. Sailcloth 101 | Cruising World Still not satisfied, I kept looking. This answer seems more authoritative. Quote: Pentex: Pentex is a high-tenacity polyester fiber known for its exceptional strength and resistance to stretching. Sails made with Pentex blends offer a good balance of performance and durability. Types of sailcloth - SailSelect Sailmakers My conclusion is that it should be a Pentex sail, but that it gets a lot of people confused. Feel free to use this information in conversation with any sailors that you come across.
Incidentally, this very website contains a number of references to Pentex cameras. I will not be linking those posts. :D

Could be oil that ended up in the wrong place during manufacturing. This should have been caught by the factory QA people, but perhaps it only started leaking during the journey to you. I would definitely return this bad boy. Things might get worse as time as time goes by.
