I agree. I sent my copy to service for calibartion. Now it works ok at f2.8. As you I'm looking for some testes and conclusion how it works w DA 1.4X.

My first weekend with 30 year old shift lens. This is K lens so built from glass and metal only. Shift mechanism is simple and rather intuitive. I found this lens very good optically. It is very sharp at f3.5 in close distance and f8 at infinity. When shifted there are some lateral CA - but nothing terrible.

And here is my second Contax lens. Looking for some time for best zoom in 2x-70/80 range I decided to buy Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 3,3-4,0/28-85.
I made some comparision tests with best prime lenses. It looks that CZ 28-85 is very sharp wide open and sharp it means in the center and on borders and not so far from best primes. At 28, 35 and 50mm my Sigma 17-50/2.8 DC OS HSM is less sharp without any discussion. From 28mm till 35mm abberations (green fringle) is worse than in my prime lenses.
Lens is quite big and heavy. There are 16 elements inside. Lens has big front - 82mm filter size. Zoom is pump type and i found it to be quite usefull.

My first Contax lens was Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135. I had few 135mm (SMC Pentax 1:2.5 135mm, Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Orestor 2.8/135 , Leitz Elmarit-R 1:2.8/135) and after comparing them all together I decided to stay with Contax. It is well build lens w build-in hood. Very sharp, with beautiful bokeh and color rendition.
This lens was converted to K mount using Leitax solution.

I've bought Sigma 50-500/4.5-6.3 year ago and still try to learn how and when to use it. Even if we have spring from few days - in calendar, outside it is still winter. All shots longer than 300mm.

Yes, if it is described as taken with af 1.7
Not really, I used focus ring from lens and got confirmation from camera with additionall support from AF1.7.
k500 with AF1.7 was ok with istDS (6mb) not with with K5 (16mb).
In my opinion Sigma is better in any aspect.

I had Pentax 500mm. It is very big and heavy. I always used it with sand bag from car's window. It is difficult to use. It is sharp at f8, but at f8 it is quite dark and it is difficult do focus. So if you want to focus good you need to go to f4.5 - focus - change to f8 and take shot. Quite complicated.
Anyway, it is very long tele and with some patience it is possible to have some satisfaction :)
I don't have Sigma 150-500. I have last version of Sigma 50-500. It is really good at 500mm.

re 7. I can recommend one Leica zoom. It is Vario-Elmarit 4/80-200 designed in Solms in 1996 and produced in Japan. According to "Leica Lens Compendium" it is similar design to Vario-Apo-Elmarit 1:2.8/70-180 and from f5.6 of similar picture quality.
According to Photodo it is better than Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM (MTF score 4.2).
I like this lens, it is versatile, has build-in hood - classical stack of prime lenses.
Two pictures through my window at 200mm, ISO 640, f5.6 and f6.3
re 8. I have Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 ZK . For sure it has better contrast and better coating.
