As all are saying -- use RAW -- you are relying on the camera to do the digital developing for you as you are using JPG -- use RAW and get some free developing software like RawTherapee at RawTherapee - Home Learn how to use it and your pictures will go from poor to glorious !!

Which model of the Pro Master do you have that charges the Pentax D-Li90 battery ? I like the suggestion as I do not like the idea of plugging my K3-iii into some random USB outlet in a hotel to charge the battery ....
Their website does not specify any for Pentax ? Chargers and Power Supplies
Model 9176 looks like the most likely contender .. https://promaster.com/Product/9176
Amazon has horrible reviews of it :-) https://www.amazon.com/ProMaster-Traveler-Battery-Charger-Digital/dp/B07FCWP...s%2C248&sr=8-2 ---------- Post added 16th Feb 2024 at 13:09 ---------- OK -- after much thought -- I turned the KF around and sent it back unopened.
I am taking the K3-iii with my older Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM SDM AW converted to screw drive
To protect my K3-iii from bad USB charging so I can just take a charging cable -- I am getting one of these : https://www.amazon.com/ADAM-elements-Universal-Adapter-Protector/dp/B0842L7J73/ref=sr_1_6?tag=pentaxforums-20&crid=1DVP51JSCFINQ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.j6O6QiUJwSSIHgvghUAKgySvLu72YeosCfYQptKy1_4ihhig9qqF6QZKokUgin-g.cAqpq9daSlOk0pklsPWKGzWHS4VIikp0bAxwESHBRAk&dib_tag=se&keywords=european%2Busb%2Bcharger&qid=1708106023&refinements=p_n_feature_eleven_browse-bin%3A75574920011%2Cp_n_feature_thirteen_browse-bin%3A120948300011&rnid=120948276011&s=wireless&sprefix=european%2BUSB%2Caps%2C172&sr=1-6&th=1
This has the advantages of being a higher quality USB power block -- it can plug in just about anywhere in the world - is fuse protected -- AND the only USB charger I need to take for our phones and iPad mini's !!!
Thanks for everybody's help

I am in fact backing off the idea of the KF and might just return it ... reason - I assumed that a new model would (like my K3-iii) charge with just a small USB cable. Instead they have that cumbersome charger AND a USB transformer to lug around - sheesh !!
Thinking of taking my K3-iii and my older DA* 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM SDM AW !!! |

All good points -- I do not have an 18-135 but could get one -- I also am concerned with the older SDM failures, I converted all my older to screw drive -- UncleVanya question - can I convert this even though new to screw drive ? Does the KF even have the screw drive ?

I have and use a K1-ii and a K3-iii, plus way too many lenses - and use large Pelican cases when travelling (two bodies, lenses, tripods etc.)
However, I am going on vacation to Italy for two week and I have to travel LIGHT - backpack with as little as possible.
I have a new KF body coming (got a swanky blue one direct from Pentax)
I am still having second thoughts on this and wonder if I should open the box :-)
I still have my Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM SDM AW lens gathering dust since I got the new Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM (which I love).
I am thinking of taking the older Pentax-DA* 16-50mm with the new KF as my throw it in the back-pack and try not to loose it at all the vineyards !!
In a nutshell -- the camera and lens are worth around $1,500 rather than over $3k !!
I don't think I will regret not having the full frame as I am really only wanting this camera for vacation snapshots ... I am with a group and will not have the time to stop and do anything special etc.
What does the forum think? -- good choice for a cheaper and LIGHTER general purpose camera that I will not be worrying about for two weeks ?
Thanks for your thoughts

This is a useful discussion for me as well as I bring Pixel Shift in via RawTherapee and then export as TIF for post processing in PS.
I have been confused as to what "bit" count I should use -- I tried 32bit and pretty well blew up PS LOL
I will use 16 in future !!

In one of the recent threads - somebody posted that he felt that the delay of a new K1-iii was probably due to supply chain shortages of full frame sensors from Sony -- I did some digging and came across a really fantastic informational page on Sony about FF sensors ... apologies if this has been posted about before but it really is a great article! https://pro.sony/ue_US/technology/full-frame-sensor

Guys -- we are talking about mainstream cameras here -- Pentax put its head in the sand a long time ago -- however in my opinion they are making a good return -- and I am spending $$$$ on them -- but to hang your hat on a return to film might be a good side stream job -- but they have a chance to become relevant again -- astrotracing and other items make their current DSLR cameras compete with the best Nikon and Cannon - but a a much lower price point ... I am not a fan of mirror-less - and I agree that they have made it clear they see the DSLR route as theirs -- but to not bring out a new flagship DSLR full frame in years wastes all the effort and progress they have made with the K-1.
For years this forum was begging them to bring it out -- we have TWO models in as many years -- and now nothing ..... in my opinion they have 2023 to take SOME initiative or they will slide into irrelevance again ... there will be no second return.

I watched the video when the development manager was so proud to say that they were developing film camera while they still had the original film engineers ... now we know why Pentax so totally lost the transfer to digital with engineers stuck in the dark ages ... and they are PROUD of it :-) Give me a break. I love my K1-ii and K3-iii - and so want a new K1-iii with the new firmware, screens and everything he K3-iii has -- but as time goes on I am beginning to loose hope. I have invested a LOT in the new Pentax lenses in the hope (waning fast) that Pentax were committed to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the DSLR and perhaps mirror-less world !!

I agree -- I found the 300 screw drive AF to be faster than the SDM --- if you are not comfortable converting yourself (and you do need a K-5 to do it I think; as I had) then send to UncleVanya !

Assume this is the DA* 300 ?
My SDM did not die -- but it just seemed sluggish -- converted to screw drive and now it is way better
Takes all the contact power problems and cold SDM problems away as the camera is directly doing the focus through the screw drive !

I have a WG-6 and love it -- but always waiting for the memory card after a sequence or video stops recording. Why oh why does ANYBODY bring out a new camera without UHS-II !!! I notice the difference on the K3-iii and assume that when they bring out a new K1-iii it will have all the K3-iii features - new menus - and UHS-II and KEEP the articulating screen. ---------- Post added 6th Jun 2022 at 15:13 ---------- One other thing ---- the WG-6 shape lends itself well to the silicone cover - I got one and forever glad I did -- it certainly adds to the general "knock" protection.
The new WG-80 however has a shape that in no way can they provide a silicone case I think !
I cannot see any reason for upgrading my WG-6 !

I hear you - the lens is just about my favourite for all action shots -- which is why I got the Silver :-) Tempted to keep the black as emergency spare as it so almost unused - but SWMBO says otherwise !

Not sure if it is your listing as I cannot seem to find it any longer = apologies ---------- Post added 9th May 2022 at 09:42 ---------- Again my apologies -- I was not commenting about the lens BarneyL had for sale in Europe - no idea where the other one went.
I will say that the European one is 1400 EUR and mine is $1400 (less) and comes WITH a good filter on the front :-)
We are also moving in a different market -- great forum huh as one is available in Europe and one is available in USA - BOTH great quality!
