I'm just baffled. I like the design of it, it's nicely industrial and a touch retro at the same time, but it's a toy camera sold at a really high price. You could get a smaller compact camera with a larger sensor for far less money.

This might make me a pariah here, but after months of lusting after a K5 I put down 1000 euros on a preorder of the X100. It's like they designed this camera for me specifically. I'm keeping my K10D if I need other focal lengths.

No way to get infinity focus with any DSLR that has a mirror. The flange distance is a lot shorter than what conventional SLRs have.

That's a 100% crop? How could you possibly wish it was sharper? How could it be? Stunning resolution IMO.

From what I've heard of it, the Sigma won't do because it's too heavy. In the end you'll just start leaving it home. 43mm Ltd is expensive and not nearly standard. 35mm/2.4 would definitely be the way to go for a workhorse, it's sharp, light and cheap.

Thanks for the comments, guys! The first photo broke because I changed it. I applied a brush to her face that lowered saturation a bit.
I tried to do masking & merging but that ended up with a faker looking picture. Plus, there's some hair that's impossible to mask. Also, when I was taking the pictures I did switch to a fill flash, but those shots just weren't very good.
Thanks, people!

I definitely prefer the colour one. The contrasty BW does something nasty to his skin close to his chin and just doesn't communicate much to me.

Personally the photo is so dark and has so little contrast I can't really... see it.

I took this shot (and plenty of others, but only this had potential) of my girlfriend around sunset. It's metered for the sunset, making my girlfriend here around 4 stops underexposed! I used some tricks like merging two outputs from Lightroom in Photomatix to get this shot. Do you think it works? I've played around with it so much I'm blind by now. Obviously it's such heavy PP that if that's not your thing you're not going to like it... Still, criticism welcome.
Here's the two versions from Lightroom to show the problem... |

And possibly the lens is not top class.

The Vivitar is probably the same lens, just labeled differently for some stupid reason.

The FA24 is just as capable as it ever was, but no lens has infinite resolution. The K200D shots posted here show similar performance to the one from the first post, but the resolution being over a third lower, the images look sharper. Even very highly rated lenses will show flaws at 16MP, especially near the corners.

I don't know, I learned that people here were angry about the DPR K10D review long after that same review had convinced me to choose the camera over its rivals...

FA35 was a lovely lens because it was just about fast enough, quite sharp, standard FOV and most importantly affordable. It's not a $500 lens and it never was.

I've been looking at that lens myself. I don't have the capital for it right now though. Be sure to try ptlens with it to fix the distortion that seems to be the only major fault with the lens.

It's a pretty standard focal length for a rangefinder. I've had a few with fixed lenses in the 40-45mm range.

I'll say Pentax-A 28mm 2.8, since mine at least is not very good and it is a Pentax forum :p Seems to suffer from serious loss of contrast issues.

Thanks, mate! That's definitely my favourite one too. These were difficult to shoot -- prime candidates for HDR, really, but I decided against it.
