switching on and off didn't help since the camera remained on. To switch it off I had to remove the batteries.

Hi yes settings are identical. I checked whether I had hit the info buttom but the result is that the screen changes but doesn't turn off, so that is not the case.

---------- Post added 03-18-24 at 10:30 AM ----------

I don't think it's a card issue. All I can think is that either it is a software one or a camera problem.

---------- Post added 03-18-24 at 10:31 AM ----------

So probably it's a camera issue. Once someone told me to clean the contacts between the lens and the camera since they do somehow manage to get some dirt on them

it seems that this is a common problem since your description fits in with my experience.

Hi, please excuse me if this question might appear on some other thread but after posting I got a message that I should have ticked some box that I know that it was an old thread but hadn't done so.

My Mk II has been playing a bit lately, usually limited to the fact that the first picture is never recorded, then it worked fine albeit occassionally it skipped a picture. Today it did this a couple of times until when the back screen turned black and the only indication that it was still working was the top screen. I switched it on and off a couple of times and it remained on. Then I changed camera and looked into it at home. The only was to switch it off was that of removing the batteries. Then I could switch it on and off again as if nothing happened. The Firmware version is 2.41 which I believe is the latest. I suspect that in continuous mode the speed is somewhat reduced. I noticed this when I switched over to my old K1 which looked as if it was taking faster shots when the settings were both the same. Any help would be appreciated.

Pentax mirrorless

I've been a pentax user for the last 45 years starting off with the Pentax MX, LX, Kr, K1, K1 Mrk II and have been through a number of Pentax lenses including the 150-450mm. However, I'm noticing that Pentax or Ricoh are not keeping up with the competition. If one looks at Nikon and Canon they have produced in recent years first class mirrorless cameras with very good focusing for sport and wildlife. Apart from that, their lenses apart from being expensive are also excellent. Pentax has remained years behind this technology and is not doing anything to keep up with competiition. Frankly, I think that Ricoh are not interested in keeping the Pentax brand up to scratch with the current technology and little by little they they are moving away from competition until the brand is dead and clients can just shift brands if they want to up their cameras with the available technology. If one were to look at the telephotos. the last long lenses they produced were years ago. Apart from the 150-450mm, the only alternative they have is the 560mm massive lens. Does Ricoh have a strategy for the Pentax brand or its just a work in progress which leads to nowhere? The technology is improving on a daily basis while on this side of the fence, they are still fast asleep albeit some of you are contemplating a K1 Mrk III which would probabaly be a marketing exercise.

K1 RAW file size

That's it. Compared it with the settings of my other K1II. That's sorted.

Well the issue with the compass is that the camera was repaired in Japan and when returned it was upgarded to a K1II firmware. when I tried using the compass setting I noticed that the camera could detect the north but if I turned it in other directions it gave the wrong bearings, South was being marked as north etc. I sent it again to Japan and this time they changed the firmware back to K1 and returned it back claiming it's working fine. I tried it once again and nothing changed with the bearings. They claimed that it was working fine and I had to sent them evidence that it wasn't. Basically, I took photos of two bodies one with the K1 and the other with the mark II showing them that the K1 was showing incorrect bearings. Meanwhile the saga continues.

Hi,
I recently had my Pentax K1 sent to Japan in order to address a problem with the compass, something which they failed to do but on being returned back I noticed that suddenly the card could store double the amount of photos. I noticed that this was due to the fact that the RAW files size is approximately half the usual value! Frankly, I couldn't find anywhere where one could arrange the RAW file size. I would appreciate if anyone can help me address this issue albeit I suspect that they messed it up big.

Will we see a K1 Mark 3?

Pentax were a big company and produced very good lenses and cameras over the years. Other companies died out and new ones were born and established themselves in the field giving a hard time to the well established ones. So I don;t see why Pentax needs to throw in the towel and look elsewhere. At the end it seems that it is more inclined to retain some of its current users rather than rope in new ones and taking the market away from others. In the long run that will only result in eventually loosing more until you become irrelevant.

Maybe Pentax needs to look at what other brands are doing. For example Canon are about to launch the R3, a relatively cheap priced mirrorless camera mainly aimed at the wildlife/ sports sector with very good specs.

Use of Pentax AF 140c ring flash

Just managed to get hold of the Pentax AF 140c ring flash and tried using it on a Pentax K1 Mrk II camera. Tried various combinations using a Pentax 50mm macro plus a 1.4 convertor using TAV, Av, X synch etc but although I managed to get a correct setting using an F 45 aperture at 1/200s speed and 100ASA, I couldn't get too close to the subject although I tried reducing the aperture since the result was an overexposed picture. Tried fiddling with the F 5.6 and F22 setting and Manual setting on flash but there was limited difference in the outcome of the final result. Noticed that sometimes the flash went off after hearing the mirror go up but still the result was fine. I would appreciate if someone could help me out with settings since I plan to use the flash for close-up work.

In fact I do use continuous shooting.
Something else which I am noticing which is happening lately is that occassionally I get one or two pictures saved as both jpg and PEF although the setting is just RAW. I presume it is a software bug issue.

Was in an area which is used by plane photographers. Known position of radars is very far away and I have been much closer to radars without any issues.

Hi,
I would lek some feedback regarding an issue which cropped up yesterday while I was taking photos at an airfield. I had my K1-II with my Pentax 150-450mm which I had used a few minutes before without any problems. I took it to take another picture and although I kept pressing the shutter button, nothing happened. I looked at the screen and noticed a flickering image. This prompted me to switch off the camera both from the battery grip and also from the camera. However the flickering image still persisted in spite of teh fact that there was no power. The only way how I could stop and reset it up was that of removing the battery grip and also the battery from the camera and restart all over again. Then it worked well! I never encountered such a problem before and have been using the camera and lens for years now. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback however I am still confused of how one can get pictures of comets or even bright stars using wide angle lens and not telephotos. The universe is enormous so one needs to focus on an area to find what he is looking for. So how can one do that witha shorter focal length?

---------- Post added 01-07-22 at 02:22 AM ----------

Thanks for your feedback however I had calibrated the astrotracer a few hours before using the lens used for the photos

I was recently trying to take some pictures of the stars at night using a Pentax 150-450mm lens using a B setting but am not satisfied with the results especially using an exposure of 40s at 400mm since I am getting a streaking effects on the pictures (IMGP 4018 and 4020). Photos were taking on a solid tripod and camera was calibrated before shooting. I've also noticed that I am getting a limit for the possible exposure being used. Pictures were taken using remote control switch. Can anyone indicate what am I doing wrong. I got a better result at 250mm (IMGP 4021). Any help would be appreciated.

@Tjompen You were correct. Item C6 was set to Type 1. I tried it out again i.e. timing with the second press and in fact the timing was now correct. Thanks very much.

I repeated everything except the astrotracer bit; the settings were as follows: B setting; camera set to manual focus; Remote mirror up so you start by pressing the remote button and the mirror goes into up position, the red light at the back blinks every second and then you take the mirror down by pressing the remote again. putting the mirror up. Checked the properties adn in spite that I left the mirror up for around 14s, the exposure time was 0.52s! So nothing has changed.

I used a cordless remote control and heard the mirror going up and down and timed using my watch. All exposure times were the same no matter what.
