I was thinking about my last post (above), that it seemed too easy a "fix" and that has proven to be true. The problem has returned - it started with the first shot underexposed, then the first two shots blacked out and now it's every shot with every lens. So it's off to Precision for a checkup and repair. A real bummer.

After performing dust removal, pixel mapping, and a camera reset (Setup Menu 5), the K-70 is working fine with no shutter problems; with many pictures - over 300, and 2 movies recorded. Hoping the problem doesn't return.

Thanks for the suggestions. I followed your detailed instructions, stevebrot, and unfortunately the aperture iris closes way down with the first shot. This happens with the first shot (after the camera rests for awhile) with 3 different lenses. As the camera is out of warranty, it's going to be a costly repair at Precision Camera. Thanks again.

My K-70 has been exhibiting some strange behavior - when I first take a picture (after the camera has been off for awhile) the first picture taken is very dark although the exif data shows the settings are 'normal'. Subsequent pictures are ok. Any ideas what is happening?

On page 108 of the K 70 pdf manual it states that the Optical Preview may be activated to "check the depth of field with the viewfinder". When I attempt to do this I see nothing in the view to indicate the depth of field. What, please, should I be seeing? Thanks. The K 70 is a great gizmo and I am more than pleased with its capabilities.

I purchased a Pentak K-70 (great piece of gear) from B&H (great company to do business with) back in May of this year. When the camera arrived I went online to register the camera at the Pentax site, filled out the form and submitted it. The site said I would receive an email - never happened. Several days ago I went back to the Pentax site and checked to see if my camera had been registered and it looks like it is not in their database. I sent a help request to Pentax but never heard back from them. Does anyone know how I can complete the registration? Thanks. -dave

I spoke with a young lady at Bower over the electrical telephone and she suggested that the ring I had was either a clone or outdated. I ordered one from B&H (it looked a bit different with knurls on the outer edge) and it arrived today. And it fits like a glove; no more gap, no more exposed contacts.

I asked this question in the Astrophotography social group and received a few answers but I thought asking in a wider venue might help me further. I am a new owner of a K-70 and purchased a Pentax K SLR / DSLR Deluxe Astrophotography Kit (1.25") from Telescopeadapters.com and it's a very nice kit. However, the t-ring (made by Bower) does not fit flush with the camera body and the lens information contacts are exposed to the dust and bugs and dew. I used the t-ring the other night for some prime focus activity and the next day I had trouble with auto-focus. After cleaning the contacts 3 times with a microfiber cloth the camera worked fine again. Someone at the aforementioned astrophotography suggested buying some o-rings to fill the gap, and I could do that, but I think it would be better to find a t-ring that fits properly, one that doesn't leave the contacts exposed. Any ideas? Thanks

Next week I will be acquiring a Pentax K-70 from B&H. I haven't owned a camera in a number of years and I am itching like a kid the week before Christmas. Many moons ago I owned a Sony DSC 707 and a Meade DSI astronomy dedicated CCD camera. The BIG plan is to use the K-70 for general photo stuff and for astro applications, including but not limited to: tripod mounted very wide field pics and prime focus and variable focus pics using the Pentax K SLR / DSLR Deluxe Astrophotography Kit on my beautiful Celestron 8 inch SCT. I've been browsing the wonderful PentaxForums for a few days and I want to express my appreciation to all of you for sharing your vast knowledge, opinions, and expertise. This place is a treasure chest, so I offer a tip of the hat to the gents, and a deep bow to the ladies - thanks!
