Unfortunately K70 does not have the sensor shit feature. Serves my right for not buying the K3 instead!

Tilt / Shift adapter recommendation

Thank you for your suggestion. I decided on a Pentax A-24mm f2.8 and software option. My math background tells me that there might not by ANY difference between an optical vs software approach as both adjust the same geometry.
Let me thank everyone who replied for their suggestions.
Others kindly suggested a Samyang 24mm f/3.5 T/S for Pentax . It seems to be out of stock at many retailers and is just too much for what I have in mind.

Best Regards,
ShawnH

Tilt / Shift adapter recommendation

I am thinking of getting a Tilt/Shift adapter for my K70 and a lens that would yield a 35mm full frame equivalent angle of view for some light architecture and landscape photography. Can you suggest an adapter and a lens that offers a good combo? It seems that not many adapter makers produce one for Pentax.

Hi photogem, In you debug instructions for K70 you say create file name: 0007770.524 but on the line below you say you get text file with the name: 00077750.545. As you see the name are different. Is that the way it is suppose to be or is this a typo? Please advise.. Thanks for all the great work you do here.
.
.
a) On the computer desktop right click ... select "create" - select "new - text document" and give it the name: 00077770.524
You get a text file with the name: 00077750.545.txt
b) Double click to open it and paste in: [OPEN_DEBUG_MENU] (you can just copy it from here),
close, save and rename again into 00077770.524 but without ".txt"!)

Now you have a file named just: 00077770.524

You could have lens elements that are misaligned and project a skew plane of focus. I have observed the same issues with K70 & KS2. You can split the difference in adjustment between the center point and side points if the difference is consistent. Also I have noticed (not 100% sure) that FS & FA setting produce different adjustment values using the Dot-tune method. Note: A curved plane of focus inherent in the lens design may cause this issue.

Forget about KX. Viewfinder is too small. My suggestion is a used K5.... KS1, KS2 and K70 among others suffer from aperture block failure.

I had a lens which fine focus adjustment at +10 was insufficient. My solution was set the camera Fine Focus adjustment to +5 next activate the Debug Mode in my KS2, then use the focus adjustment facility n the Debug Mode to calibrate focus. It worked perfectly. Be advised that all your other lenses will now be shifted -5 points and must be recalibrated. Debug Mode is a bit risky so use at your own risk.

Does anyone know what the functions for following settings in the AF TEST settings are?
If values are set to zero for both then center focus point is adjusted. I am interested in finding a way of calibrating individual focus points separately. I am wondering if that is possible.
I would greatly appreciate your advice.

AF AREA TEST Range: 0 ~ 3
AF AREA NUMBER Range: 0 ~10

Recommendation for low-light B&W film

When I was using film I had good luck with Ilford Delta 400 in Xtol. Of course it depends if the lighting and your lens max aperture allow for a 400 ISO film. Assuming that you will be scanning your negative I suggest developing your film for maximum resolution (detail). You can always add sharpness in post processing. Your subject matter may require 100 ISO film and good lighting to resolve whiskers and fur, In that case an indirect flash bounced off the wall might do the trick. with pleasant results.

Precision charged $240 for my KS2. That was the fixed cost amount.

I' have to spend time taking the solenoid out of KX and sacrifice that camera too. KX is now my black and white camera and is love with an HD 40mm limited. I just cannot break'em apart.

Thanks Steve. For some of the reasons you have listed, as well as lack of competence and patience I prefer to send it out for repair. I do have a KX that I can use as a last resort if the repair at Precision fails. I had a KS2 repaired there a year ago and so far it is ok. Then I might also be indemnified if the class action law suit bears fruit. A repair receipt from a factory authorized facility might be handy. It is really a sad commentary on the state of management at Pentax. I was about to spend $1,000 on a 15mm & 70mm Limited lenses but once my K70 failed I decided against that. For now, knowing if Precision does a credible job would be useful.

Hi All,
I have to send my out of warranty D70 to Precision Camera for an Aperture Block Failure repair. I am wondering, has anyone had this issue again after a a repair job at Precision Camera?
I hate to have it repaired there if it is going to happen again in a year or so.

Regards,
Shawn.

Thank you all. If I was sure the repair from Precision Camera is permanent then I would pay the bloody $240 and get it done. I have a KX which apparently has two solenoids I can use for a DIY repair. On the other hand I have never done any soldering. I could sell K70 and KX in a package now and put the money toward a new KP but K70 is such an awesome camera.

Thanks to Adam, I installed the required files and there it was the Debug mode.
I assumed that focus adjustment in the Debug mode is "Applied ALL".
My lenses were set to: 35mm 2.4 @ +10; 40mm f2.8 @ +10 and 18-35 Kit lens @ +8.
Starting with 35mm, I set the user mode focus adjustment to +5 and entered the Debug mode. Using the DotTune method and the distance of 35X focal length (4 ft) resulted in +130um optimum setting. At this point 35mm was done.
Please note: To set the best focus in DotTune method, set FX button to Optical Preview>Open Live view> set lens to maximum aperture> Magnify View> Press FX for Optical Preview (Pentax closed down the lens +2 stops in Live view)> focus target manually.

Next was my 18-55 kit lens. Exit the Debug mode. Using the user fine adjustment function following the steps above resulted in @18mm -1, @35mm -4 and at 55mm -2. I set this lens to -3. Very sharp at 18mm, hard sharp at 35mm and slightly soft at 55mm (still much better than before).

Not going to use the 40mm on this camera. It lives on my KX and is very happy there. A bit of bad news however, My k70 with a shutter count of only 2000 is exhibiting the symptoms for Aperture Block Failure. Does anyone know if it will happen again after repair by Precision Camera ?

I have a couple of lenses that are at +10 already. So I thought I'll risk it see what happens. Debug mode worked really well on my KX. Hard sharp with 40mm f2,8. In fact the viewfinder focusing can outperform live view focusing. I will let you all know how it all turns out. I am hoping it would allow me to calibrate the side focus points as well,
