For your zoom, the 28-105 is regarded as a "kit lens". If all kit lens were of its quality, there would be such no such designation. The lens punches way above its pay grade. I have a Tamon 90mm 2.8 macro that gives superior results; a Pentax 43 Ltd. 1.9 that gives superior results; a Takumar 55 2.2 (vintage ~1957) that gives razor-sharp results. With those comparisons, the 28-105 takes no back-seat. The results are just very nice and the zoom range, for me, is very helpful. In short, I think you would not only not be disappointed, I think you would feel as if you had found a hidden treasure in the 28-105.

To All -
I learned far more than I ever anticipated from a rather focused (couldn't resist) question. I've never been around professional cinematography and I found the details of what all goes into just the simple dimension of focusing fascinating.
Thanks for taking time to expand my knowledge.

A most interesting explanation. Making movies is not a great interest of mine, but I decided that if the K-1 "Movie" mode was there I would try to learn a bit about it. Regardless of any short-coming in the video department, the K-1 serves me extraordinarily well. From ergonomics that seem as if they were molded for my own hand, to image quality that is outstanding, the K-1 fits my interess and usage patterns perfectly. If I really wanted video capability, there are other options that have emphasized that capability.
Thanks for taking time to give me a more in-depth perspective.

You are exactly correct. I meant the K-1 II.
Thanks for the reply and the helpful links.

Thank you to each and everyone.
wade22 and UncleVanya nailed it: I had locked in the focus to use the AF button exclusively. When I now attach a lens, any lens, and press the AF button to focus...perfect.
An embarrassing mistake. I have to reflect that "If one learns by making mistakes, I am headed for Rhodes Scholar status".
Thanks, again, for taking time to address my question.

Gentlemen from Down Under, thank you! You clearly understand how elementary are my questions and how inexperienced am I with video. All of your tips are right on target and most helpful.
I have played with photography, all still shots, for 60+ years, so this world of video is somewhat foreign and intimidating. Your courtesies are making it somewhat less foreign, somewhat less intimidating.
What a world we live in that virtual voices from different hemispheres can so easily communicate.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can point me to a very basic tutorial for making movies with the K-1. I've never shot video, so even the basics, i.e., focusing tips, shutter speed, frame rate, etc. would be of interest.
I have played with the video feature a bit and one very perplexing issue: how do I keep my static subject in focus when I am moving the camera toward/away from it? Next, how do I keep a moving subject in focus with the camera anchored in place?
Post-processing is a subject far in my future, so I do not want to ask anyone to spend time on that...yet.
Any help will be most appreciated.

Yes! Thank you very much. I always associated the "A" setting with non-auto lenses. My education continues and I am indebted to you and all those who take the time to help newbies. I hope I ultimately reach a level when I can pass along the courtesy.

Power composition, but lighting could have been more effective with better local contrast. Nominated.

Thank you, that is an elucidating explanation that undoubtedly will come in quite useful as my K-1 education continues.
I am impressed with the willingness of the forum participants to address such "simple" questions and I am equally impressed with the value of the responses.
