UK based, but I’ve just had a quote from John Pye Technical of £50 and a 2 week turnaround, based on the requested service of sensor clean for GRIII.
I’m posting tomorrow so I will update my recent thread with the outcome.
From recent/past threads there doesn’t seem to be a US equivalent, sadly.

A rather boring request from me, better third party repair support over a longer guaranteed period.
Not being able to repair a product is the main (only?) reason I would consider switching brands over (not to say the main competitors are currently any better).

It’s not advertised as dust or splash proof and I feel I’ve done well to avoid dust so far. I’ll send away for quotes and compare these against dust removal in post.
Thanks for the suggestion of John Pye, who I’ll try first.

After nearly five years, my GRIII has finally got a big lump of dust on the sensor... It has done well as I'm careful, but not that careful...
Any UK recommendations for cleaning services. Happy to have a go myself, but only once professional options are ruled out on availability/price...
Thanks! PS. Mods ~ this may be better in the GR sub-forum? |

And… if you were to wish for some middle ground, I find the 70’s hood works a treat on the FA43 (also 49mm)
Edit: when the 43 is used on apsc

I found this to be a great combination on my K-P. More recently, I changed the 21 for a griii. However, if I’d not wanted the griii for day-to-day commuting, I think these two lenses would have continued to be my staple - they are particularly good if you’re not afraid to crop in post.

I’ve enjoyed the k 28 f/3.5 and k 135 f/2.5. And more recently, the k 200 f/4.

I always return to the da 70 on the KP, so maybe the dfa 100 or k 105 on the K1?
Even when using the 28-105 or 55-300 I often find myself at 70.

I nearly always bring my griii and kp (usually with the fa43 and da70, but sometimes the 55-300plm) on holidays. The kp is relatively small and certainly capable, giving me what the griii can’t in terms of weatherproofing, focal length and flexibility. However, over the last four years I have increasingly found myself leaning to the griii when out with others, as it’s small size doesn’t alter a situation’s dynamic when I’m using it in the same way as the more ‘serious’ dslr tends to. This is of course personal. The griii is a joy and has opened up stacks for me, especially on an everyday basis where it lives in my bag on my commute. I’d love a k-1 too, but the griii would make a great k3 partner.

I often find myself cropping my GRIII images, sometimes quite heavily ~ that's one of this things I love about having good quality files to start with. Though 40mm equiv. would make a lot of sense to me, I'd rather crop and have the versatility when I get caught out.
A GRIII Y though... 60mm equiv. 2.8, crop-able to 90mm equiv, if not further...

The 43 was my first, then the 31. I then thought the trajectory was set until the GRIII was released... Trading the 31 for an open box GRIII was one of the best photography decisions I've ever made, but then I didn't ever truly fall in love with the 31 like I did with the 43, which is the perfect focal length on aps-c (for me).
I recently had trouble deciding between a factory refurbed HD DA 70 and second hand SMC FA 77, I went for the 70 @ ~£200 less; I suspect 77 ownership still awaits in the future, perhaps if I move to full frame -- but the DA 70 with DA 40 hood is just so small.

Thanks all for the speedy advice, I reckon I'll divert towards used Cokin P -- find/ work out if I'm a regular user and take things from there.

Does anyone know if the NiSi GRIII specific filters work with the DA Limited lenses?
I often use my GRIII as a wide angle option in combination with my KP + DA21, FA43, DA70, M75-150 kit. As the Limiteds + M-series are all 49mm threads, the small (and cheaper) NiSi GRIII Master Kit would be a great intro into 'square' filters...
Thanks in advance for any info.

It is a two year warranty, in the UK. My GRIII was repaired via SRS Microsystems (original retailer), who sent it to John Pye, I believe, in May last year. I've always found it easiest to go through the retailer first if you can. The repair was fast and painless, and so far successful ~ some hope for you there hopefully.

Inspired by Ben Horne, trying to find some order in the chaos; I like the false appearance of reflections. My first shoot in the rain, which has encouraged me to do more.

I'll add to those voices in favour -- again with the caveat of good quality and potential removal in certain conditions. I've not noticed any major IQ issues, but do feel more able to be less protective of lenses when out and about, particularly in urban and woodland environments where there are elements that a hood would likely not prevent from damaging the front element
For me, the added sense of security (and linked enjoyment) I get from using UV filters outweighs any potential IQ issues - but this is the personal bit I guess...

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll order 58s and deal with the (quite) minor vignetting when using on the 28-105 (on aps-c).

Is anyone able to confirm if using 62mm filters (with step up ring) will allow the lens hood to still be used? Thanks in advance.
