metal vs plastic I guess? Are these old pentax body in metal ?

I never liked the grey-plastic look. Always thought it looked cheaper than black.

Welcome ! Love my K-S2, pretty sure you'll love yours.

I had the same problem. Bought a bag for my camera + 1 lens + accessories because I wanted to tranport it easily... few a weeks after I had 5 lens. The fact you can buy cheap old lenses that are actually good lenses is amazing. It is very addictive too.

Smallest WR lens

I'm not sure which one of these I got as a kit lens, I'd have to double check, but it sure felt a bit cheap. The way you need to unlock it before changing the focal lenght is awkward and meh. IQ was ok at best, wasn't impressed. I didn't try doing landscape though and nothing with a tripod.

Once I got new lenses I didn't even re-used it once. I'd have to try it again and capture some landscapes this winter. Maybe I'll like it more. It's the widest lens I own at the moment so maybe it's worth revisiting.

"Best" Budget Lenses for Pentax

Wow that blog post is really bad.

Even that 50mm f1,4 isn't what I'd consider "budget" lens, considering the f1.8 50mm is like 1/4 of the price...

4.8%. I love a good underdog, but I wish poor Ricoh would do better marketing. No wonder sigma and tamron gave up. Good thing we have backward lens compatibility :D

I've had my K-S2 for a few months now. I love it ! And I recently bought a DA 50 mm f/1.8 and a bunch of old lenses. My favorite of the used one is definitely the Sigma 75-200 f3.8.

Here is a few shots on the sigma lens :

Swollen batteries are very dangerous. It'll keep inflating then eventually it can explode. I wouldn't take this lightly and would dispose of it (Preferably bring it somewhere that can dispose of batteries. Big stores like Best Buy can do it usually) and get a new one.

I'm not in the US, actually am in canada, and I guess I'm lucky because in montreal all well known photo store sell pentax (I mean, sure Best Buy and alike don't, but still). Aside from the great features the brand offers, the fact that I could actually hold the thing in my hand and compare it to canikon offers is what actually convinced me to buy a k-s2. Fell in love immediately.

That's very great because I feel like pentax isn't really known or popular amongst younger people. Heck I'm 26 and everybody I know all own very pricey fuji, canon or sony.

And I'm here looking for old vintage lenses for my dslr and having fun buying 50$ old gems I can play with

Help on choosing the right lens for my Pentax camera?

Whoever is spreading this information is highly uninformed. The crazy choice of lenses (both old and new) is what made me choose pentax against whatever other brand is out there ( This plus cheap WR  ) . It's just crazy how many lenses there is, to the point I get lost.

PLM 55-300 vs Tamron 70-200 f2.8 decision

Wow, thanks everybody for the answers :D

Cool. I was thinking about that combo, 55-300 and canon filter. Raynox is a filter too, right?

More likely that's what I'll do. It's just the tamron seems to have really better quality overall. The thing I was afraid really was to have the same kind of quality with the 55-330 as the 18-50 kit lens. I really didn't like it and when I go the 50mm it was day and night.

If I could, I would haha. I guess the 55-300 makes more sense for now, as it's all around easier to carry and more versatile. I'll eventually end up getting both I guess haha.

Amazing. It can get much colder than that here but that still gives me a lot of days during which I can shoot outside if it supports 20F range. That's very neat.

I will

PLM 55-300 vs Tamron 70-200 f2.8 decision

Everything is in the title.

Anybody owning both or either can help with the cons and pros of each lens? I'm not interested at all in the tamron or sigma 70-300, from the review they didn't seemed so good and the AF looked aweful.

I'm very new to photography, I own currently a K-S2 with the 18-50mm kit lens and a DA f1.8 50mm (Which I love)
So far what I've gathered is :

Tamron pros :

- f2.8 (Is it really necessary on a telephoto?)
- Macro

Does it have better image quality ? How's the AF ?

PLM 55-300 pros :

- AF is very quick and silent
- Weather resistant
- Bigger range

Is mainly to shoot small animals and portrait but the macro option was tempting. Would a simple close-up filter on the 55-300 be enough to play around ?

Is the weather sealing good enough to take pictures in the winter without problems ? Can pentax go lower in temperature than other DSLR on the market?

If there is already a thread about this, please let me know.

Thanks !
