I have an account with Queensberry, they're based here in Auckland. I think they are more for professional photographers but I managed to get an account because I did some photography classes at Whitecliffe and the instructor recommended them - it will be a while before can do photography professionally, if ever
I haven't used their photobook service so I'm not sure if it will be what you are looking for but might be worth checking out. I just placed an order for some prints yesterday for the first time so I'll update this post with my thoughts on the quality when they arrive.

Thanks for the advice. I'll watch out for a converted camera, I think, as I suspect that's the only way I'm going to get those sharp arty kind of images I've seen. Plus I'm not very handy so don't think any poor cameras should be put in my hands for taking apart and putting back together :)

I've taken an interest in infrared photography so much so that I've just taken possession of and am experimenting with an infrared filter at the moment. I really like the fine art quality to some of the images I've seen.

I suspect my unmodified K50 isn't the best for the purpose although I did the remote control test and could see a red light. I need to experiment with the filter more to see what I can get. If anyone has any tips, it'd be great to hear them :)

Sqrrl, do you convert cameras as a hobby or a living? I have been considering buying another camera and having that converted; is there anywhere in NZ who does it or would it be best to buy a second hand camera in the States then send it to somewhere like Kolari for conversion before having it sent to NZ? The other option is that I upgrade from the K50 and convert that...

Thanks, I might be interested although I guess my first choice would be to buy the 01 Prime if I can find one. I had never heard of the Auto 110 lenses before (my knowledge isn't that great when it comes to this sort of thing). I did manage to find an adaptor on BH Photovideo (link to adaptor) that might be okay, and not too expensive.

Thanks, will do. I was thinking my next purchase should be a prime lens for it although I am wanting to get a wide angle lens for the K-50 (hmmm ... how to prioritise my spending ).
Have you tried putting any of your K lenses on it with the adaptor?

So thanks to Ross, I have just taken ownership of a Pentax Q10. It's so dinky! I was very surprised at how small it was (I shouldn't have been if I had done my research better); it looked much bigger in the photos.

While the K-50 is my main camera, I wanted something smaller as in the summer time I like to head out on long scenic walks and the 50 is a bit too cumbersome to carry a long way. I also wanted something that I could have full control over (manual controls, etc, etc.), and also shoot in raw.
The Q10 also has the advantage of being more discreet, which will come in handy when shooting in crowded places. This camera ticks the above boxes even if it isn't the latest in gadgetry.

I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet but the few inside shots I took this evening turned out okay, so I'm happy. I've just begun another photography course so will have a chance to play with it this weekend while I complete my assignment :D

PS: thanks Ross :)

Nice. I love it when presents arrive, even if I've bought them for myself.
Is this a lens you've had your eye on for a while, or was it a spur of the moment purchase?

Thank you. Taken with the 18-55mm kit lens on the K50, it does okay given my skills :)
I am struggling with focussing at the moment, and after a bit of reading after my Mt Eden evening excursion I realised I should use Live View with manual focus and focus peaking so I will get out and try that next.

Hello, I've been told that this is where the Kiwis hang out. May I join you?
I can't say that I'll have anything useful to add - I'm a complete beginner really (I know how to operate the camera in manual mode at least).

I feel a bit shy about posting images but here's one I got from the top of Mt Eden the other day that I thought was okay. I have played with it a bit in Lightroom, not that I know what I'm doing, and cropped it somewhat, but happy to hear any suggestions about how I could make it better.

Thanks, and photos will be forthcoming - eventually. I am a complete beginner though so it may take a while before I can do this country justice
You are from a beautiful part of the world yourself. I took a trip through there, a long time ago now, but I loved the rustic, wild beauty of the place.

Hello - thanks for the welcome! We're a pretty welcoming lot down here in NZ so I'm sure becoming an honorary Kiwi Pentaxian won't be a problem. And as NZ_Ross said, it's so beautiful here, you may never want to leave!

Thanks for the welcome, and the link to Kiwi Pentaxians. It's good to know that Pentax users in NZ are not so rare after all!

Hello from Auckland, NZ.

I've been stalking this site for a while and decided I had better join. It was this site that helped me decide I needed a Pentax DSLR (I ended up with a K50 to get me started) over other brands of camera. That was easier said than done as it's not easy to find Pentax cameras here in NZ.
Although I've had point and shoot cameras (I quite literally used to just 'point and shoot'!), I am brand new to DSLR Photography, and have a lot to learn, especially with regards to composition. My interests are mainly landscapes, especially night photography. I look forward to soaking up as much knowledge from here that I can.

Thanks for listening :)
