Yes-- they specifically show a woman wearing a face mask to "protect the other workers since she is sick". Hmmm... Pentax was way ahead of the times.

At the flea market I came across a photography magazine from Japan from the 1960s. Scattered in the silly, pseudo-nudie articles was a short piece about the Asahi factory in Tokyo. Its an interesting glimpse into how the early Pentax SLRs (looks like Spotmatics) were made.
Sharing a photo here. The entire article can be viewed here: Asahi Pentax Factory 1964 | Flickr

I just picked up TWO of these same plates. I am intrigued. D, did you ever find out anything about their origin or age?
I am going to talk with a Japanese ceramics dealer and see if they have any info. I will share with you if I get some intel.
PS: To expound on an earlier post, Asahi is one of the traditional ceramic regions (near Kyoto) in Japan. The sample vase on this thread has no relation to the Pentax brand. In Japan, "ware" at the end of a name signifies "ceramics" for example there is Asahiware, Mashikoware, etc. We adopted this in US, ie "Tupperware" "Corningware" etc.

I have decided that I "need" an Asahiflex for my collection. There are alot out there of varying price-- any recommendations on what to look out for before buying? Shutter speeds, mirror lockup issues, etc?
