How does it actually adjust the aperture? is there a mechanical bit that wedges against the aperture control lever?
I have the PK NEX adaptor.

I received a work cost estimate for around 400 euros for replacing the shutter and some other related work. Should be back in a few weeks.
In the meantime I have been using my Pentax 15-30mm with an adaptor on my Sony A7III. It's been kind of ab interesting experience - there's no aperture control so it's shooting at f16, which is good for real estate since I'm working with a tripod and I can basically set the focus at the start of the shoot and never have to worry about focusing again.
In terms of shooting bracketed real estate shots, the Pentax K1 is much more user friendly than the Sony - the leveller display is much more accurate, the bracketing function works intuitively (there are some problems with Sony), and the tilt screen is amazing. Shooting with the Sony I have found quite difficult because of the lack of super accurate level display. Shooting with a huge lens on an adaptor on a tiny camera is also slightly unwieldy. However the photographs I've been taking are as good as I've ever produced, perhaps because I've had to spend more time over-coming some of these issues :)

I'm not sure that it's the same issue. My camera is unusable, there is a double slap of the shutter and its so violent that it moves the viewfinder.
Like I said, my (nearly four year old) camera is around 200k actuations, plus perhaps 1/3 of these in live view, so that's close to the 300k shutter actuations which the Pentax is rated for. You might hope for more mileage, but Pentax K1 shutter is rated 50% higher than other full frame cameras such as the A7III or the Nikon D850 (300,000 versus 200,000).
I have the A7III and I'm guessing it doesn't have the issue described above where Live view photos double the shutter count. however the Pentax is preferable to use to real estate, essentially just for the 'flex-tilt' display.
If I spend 400 euros and get another four years out of the camera it would be money well-spent.

As I said in the first post in this thread, I was shooting in electronic shutter mode.
(Though normally I don't like to do so, in this case I was using it because I was shooting near other people and wanted to minimise noise.)

Great. In real estate live view shooting is basically unavoidable because of the need to take large amounts of photos with differing exposures in a short period of time.
Was 450 euros with Fotomaerz in Germany? They do the Ricoh servicing for Germany and a few other countries.

I was using my K1 (upgraded) on a real estate job, on a tripod and bracketing with electronic shutter, when suddenly there was a sort of noisy clank from the shutter and it wouldn't shoot the sequences.
When I turn the camera on the shutter smacks up once or twice, and the same when I turn it off. Doesn't feel good. It won't take photographs.
I'd guess the camera is around 4 years old with around 200k actuations, hasn't had any mechanical issues or ever been dropped, but does have a high shutter count because do a lot of bracketing work.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Guess I will need to send it in to see what the problem is and how big the repair bill will be :hmm:

With the 70-200 the lens is mounted on the tripod, not the camera, so it exaggerates the shutter shock impact quite significantly, especially when burst bracketing.

It's troublesome because it slows down the process. Press a button 3 times instead of once.
Need to bracket because it's architecture photography so typically want to produce HDR imagery.
Given all that, and that I've got fixed ISO and f-stop. I can't really control what shutter speed I'm shooting at

A slightly academic question, but which lens do you think would be the sharpest possible with least distortion for architecture external shots for the K1? Not wide angle shots, but shooting a building exterior, potentially from far away, to create a non-distorted and sharp photo. (Imagine shooting a cube that will take up around 50% of the frame) Will be shooting at around f8, ISO 200 and bracketing.
I tried using the DFA* 70-200mm, but when bracketing on the tripod it moves quite a lot on the tripod because of the severe shutter flap and the fact that this is not deadened but rather accentuated by having the lens shoe mounted on the tripod rather than the camera. Changing shooting mode to electronic shutter and not having the three bracket photos actuate in one burst removes this problem somewhat, but slows the process down.
I’m thinking that either the DFA* 50mm f1.4 or the DFA 50mm Macro might be a good solution.

The DFA*50mm doesn't have an aperture lever so how would that work?
I can see it working for stills if you're shooting exclusively at f1.4 and 1/8000s or thereabouts, but not for video.

I'm fairly certain that there is not. At least it would require an electrical connection, but the adapters are just spacers.
However, if you prefer to use prime lenses, you can pick up very cheap old manual Pentax prime lenses to use on a A7III, given that it will be manual focus anyhow.

It's one thing to be able to correct all your lenses, it's another thing knowing you can't quite get the maximum sharpness on a zoom because the adjustment is out at different parts of the zoom range.

It's okay, but I haven't used it a lot, so I can't say exactly. using for an event tomorrow.
As for asking them to refix - I'm not sure - if it's +10 is it still legitimately a problem? I also do not want to send my camera away for another 2-4 weeks. Lens I'm find to send away though.

They said they checked the camera, and it's a newly upgraded K1M2, so i have to take their word for it.
This was the 3rd time the lens went in total in its 2.2 year life, the second time for bad decentering (the first time for an unresolved AF underperformance/lack of sharpness issue).

If the faulty lens was -15, and now it's about -10, and that's just because they adjusted the camera sensor position or AF module or whatever, then my other lenses if they are around -5 now would have previously been -10, which they weren't.
I don't know how many of you have checked your Pentax zoom lenses AF in minute detail, but I can tell you it ain't always pretty. Long and short ends often don't match, even if they are in the range, but tend to be out by at least +/- 1 or 2.. But maybe this is normal for camera lenses, I'm not an expert.
per se it's not a problem, since it's adjustable within the camera, it's just a sloppy repair job that doesn't exactly inspire confidence. This is the second time the lens has been in for a problem, but I can't prove a connection.

My other DFA lenses that I have tested (a 70-200 and the 50) are all within tolerance, maybe around -3 to -5.
My 24-70 was three weeks out of warranty when I took it to the shop.
The camera was recently upgraded as k1m2, so still under the temp warranty. According the repair notes the adjustment was made to the lens.
I couldn't get a proper explanation out of the shop about what the Ricoh servicer did because the person who initially processed my issue was away on holiday when I picked up my camera.

I just got my DFA 24-70 back from the repairer in Germany for back focus, they had it and the camera for almost four weeks.
I had previously sent this to them for decentering about 9 months ago (you might be able to see the old thread), and hadn't properly tested it since I got it back. Just when I got my k1 upgrade did I realise that it was back-focusing at the equivalent of about -15, beyond what was fixable in-camera.
Anyhow, they repaired it for a reasonable price, around €80s. but, when I got it back and checked the focus on my Spyder LensCal, I see that it still needs adjustment of about the max - 10. So it's okay I guess, but pretty poor showing really.
Anyhow, I'm wondering how difficult it can be to adjust a lens so that it focuses without needing AF adjust, given that the technician adjusted the lens and they had the camera to test it with. Surely this would be just standard practice in this case - at least get it +- 3? Seems like a pretty slack repair job.

I don't want to pass comment on the OP, but I've noticed a general trend on these forums where people seem to think that the decisive factor in how a photo or a set of photos turns out is the camera.
It's not. It's the photographer.

Yeah this sounds like it sucks, but just kick up a storm. If Ricoh couldn't support this lens it would be the ultimate own goal.
Unfortunately you've had to deal with some bad luck with the lens, and now some admin nonsense. If you are just persistent with e.g. 2 weeks of continual contact I'm sure it will get sorted out. Get on the phone a bunch.

The Tokina is made in Vietnam. But that in itself doesn't prove it's made in the Pentax factory, though of course it could be.
Even if the two lenses are made in the same factory, they use different coatings on the glass, that could create differences in performance.

Interesting that the CA is more controlled than the Pentax version, and sharpness has a different profile as well according to the Ephoto comparison.
I wonder if Pentax went in for sharpness across f1.4 - f4 and then this cost them with the CA.
Pentax's looks better IMO

I have a studio lighting system that covers most applications, including HSS, off-camera etc.
I think that at this stage my sole requirement is a flash for events with P-TTL. Metz 52 is interesting, but around triple the price of the Yongnuo, which sells on Amazon for a bit more than 70 euros.

I need to buy a flash that has P-TTL capability for using on-camera while shooting events, mainly will be used in bounce but definitely want P-TTL.
I'm wondering if there is a big difference between getting one of the Pentax flashes (probably the AF 540) versus a 3rd party flash such as the Yongnuo YN585EX.
Given that P-TTL is done in the camera, does that mean that the output in terms of lighting accuracy will be similar between any P-TTL capable flash? Or is there going to be better accuracy or reliablity from the Pentax flash?
Right now the Yongnuo is less than a quarter/fifth of the price of the bigger Pentax flash. That said I'm not someone who likes to buy cheap gear only to have it fail on me /be useless after a year.
I don't think this flash will get a lot of use as I seldom shoot events, though when I do it's commercial so I don't want to fuss around with poor performance or blind guests for unusable shots, so overall performance is important.
Any one with experience using both of these flashes for similar applications?
