Thanks again and what @rogerstg and @bwgv001 have demonstrated is that I need to work more at post processing... well to be honest while I've had a long time passing interest in photography, I've never full committed to the hobby and need to commit more time and effort to all areas:-) I'm now retired and have moved to Anglesey (the small island(s) where the photos were taken).and it is my opportunity to develop myself.

What @rogerstg and @bwgv001 have demonstrated is that certainly in the short term I don't immediately need a new camera or lenses (I do have a few decent older lenses) as my photos are unlikely to get printed and even if they do they won't be large prints.

Regarding processing images I've used Paintshop Pro for as long as I can remember but have been considering changing to Affinity Photo as I don't find Paintshop Pro's Aftershot very intuitive. I can't justify the expenses of Photoshop, at least at not at this time. Any immediate thoughts on this?

I did use auto focus. As pretty much all of the photos I took this afternoon were landscape, would I have been better having it in manual focus?

I'll try smaller apertures as suggested.

I've now opened up the images on the desktop and there is also a noticeable difference for the better from the laptop.

Thanks again

Simon

Thanks for the replies, I did wonder if I was expecting too much!

I've attached a closer shot, which I still wasn't overly convinced about and I am now wondering about whether or not it is viewing the files on my laptop as opposed to the desktop!? I don't get to see much of th desktop as my wife is working from home and pretty much dominates it:-)

Closer Image

Thanks again for your thoughts and comments.

Around Christmas time I got a Pentax DA 35mm F2.4 to use with my Samsung GX10 and I'm really disappointed with the sharpness of the imagess. I've attached links to a few photos I took down at Trearddur Bay this afternoon, could someone take a look and comment on what (if anything) is wrong or maybe what I'm doing wrong please!?

The images are untouched RAW files at around 17mb each.

Thanks

Could the one on the right be a Jackdaw? Just the eye colouring which makes me think it could be.

What is the best way to clean sea spray off lens and filters?

I didn't think I was close enough to get any spray and can't say I felt any but a thin film has developed. I'm guessing it will be salty and therefore more of a risk with regard to scratching!?

I too like number 1 but I'd like just a bit more adding to the left. You have cropped just to the right of the bigger tree, just crop to the other side of that tree with a bit of space... hope that makes sense. I've had a go on one of your other images and for me it balanced it a bit more but please bear in mind I generally don't know what I'm talking about

My first thoughts was it looks like the innards of a pocket watch!

For me it is an interesting photo but somehow pulls my eyes.
