Night Moon and aurora

Taken out on the ice of Hudson's Bay with one view looking back at the Cape Dorset itself. The moon was waxing at around 68% so lots of light from it; it also moved a bit during the 11 seconds of exposure but I sort of liked the effect. And darned cold. I don't worry too much in the daytime but at night, I always wonder where the nearest polar bear is. But I guess if he sneaks up, it's too late to worry anyway. The other thing that's a bit nerve-raking is the noise the ice makes against the shore-line. In the last photo you can see the height of the ice plate; it's almost low-tide and as the pan sinks it makes these dreadful grinding noises that, if you are close enough, make you feel a little small. Like a close-up bear can make you feel :) Or a passenger on the Titanic, I suppose.

Located in the NW tip of Washington State is Shi Shi Beach (pronounced Shy Shy). It is a remote place in the Olympic National Forest. The trail head is located on the Makah Tribal land. There are deep mud holes along the trail. Getting to Shi Shi Beach is a challenge. Once there, however, you are amazed by the beauty of the place.

It wasn't a tragedy, but a controlled burn of the old place behind the Co-Op store in downtown Sointula. The firefighters used it for rescue and fire training all day, before razing it to the ground.

I heard about some northern lights a bit west from where I live now and I jumped on my bike and looked for darkness. I ended up on a really muddy and cold field but it was worth it.

We had a brief but beatufiul show of northern lights here in Finland on 30th of October.
I headed to local pond to get some reflections of auroras and luckily my timing was right this time.

I got warning from admins to not to link my photos directly to my blog but you can view these bigger on there. Just click blog link from my signature.

A classical cliché silhouette of my daughter and her bear. They truly are best friends; she takes it everywhere and anywhere. I wonder how much longer it will last though.

I like the clouds on the Olympic Mtns. I shoot this area a LOT as it's near my office and I walk and shoot to exercise. I had been shooting it with the K5 but seems like the IIs produces much more detail in the water.
